Defiantly a great business/marketing model. And in a way he is a hero for saving Apple back in '98. Without his actions the whole iDevice deal would of never happened.

Heroic acts usually involve bravery in the face of danger to oneself for the good of someone else. Not at all applicable to Jobs. Not a put down, just a fact.

I'm a little to the party here, but here's my $.02.

Jobs was a lot of things, both positive and negative but not a hero, at least how we typically define what a hero is - unusual acts of bravery, self sacrifice for others, etc.

Interesting this is what webster has for hero
: an object of extreme admiration and devotion : idol

Using that definition, he is a hero to many people here.

From Lion's Dictionary.app:

• a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities: a war hero.
• the chief male character in a book, play, or movie, who is typically identified with good qualities, and with whom the reader is expected to sympathize.
• (in mythology and folklore) a person of superhuman qualities and often semidivine origin, in particular one of those whose exploits and dealings with the gods were the subject of ancient Greek myths and legends.

Not necessarily heroic acts make a hero.

According to the above definitions, including the third one for some :p, Steve is a hero.
