Do You Think that Apple Made iPhone 4 Better than iPad on Purpose?

Think about it. Apple makes an iPad that makes our iPhone feels small and weak compared to this tablet, and then a few months later release a kick ass upgrade to their iPhone that makes the specs of the iPad look laughable(considering it's 5x bigger).
It seems obvious that Apple wants us to be outraged by this, and wants us to feel that we have tablets inferior to cellphones; so that when iPad 2 comes out we'll feel obligated to update to it, so it'll be faster and better at multitasking than our iPhones.
At for at this seems genius, but i think that it's backfiring on Apple. People are reselling their ipads due to the iPhone 4 and are not spending money on apps, which hurts Apple's bottom line.

That doesn't mean every one is doing that.
For me,they are completely different devices, i use an iPad now and I'm going to buy an iPhone4 soon, I'll use them for different purposes, iPad is superior in web-surfing,watching vids, reading books/PDFs, whereas iPhone 4 has different uses for me(taking images,video recording etc)
And iPad has a 1GHz CPU,whereas iPhone 4 has an under-clocked A4chip, also iPad has a bigger screen with higher resolutions whereas iPhone4 has a smaller display and lower resolution but with more PPI and according to the benchmarks,iPad is faster

Some of you have a very strange relationship with Apple, worthy of study. Do you also have these thoughts about other manufacturers? What about food and car companies? Ikea perhaps? Clothes?

The quality of the dining table I bought from Ikea in April is not affected by the coffee tables they began selling in July, no matter how well built they are. It's still the dining table I wanted and felt was worth my money. It still works as expected.

It would bother me if McDonalds made all natural chicken nuggets, but yet excluded their chicken sandwiches from this. So I do feel those way about other companies.
 
I would sell my 64gb iPad for an iPhone 4 only if it wasn't contracted to AT&T. :D

The iPad shares many of it's functions with the iPhone but in the end it is a different product. Although it would be possible that the two devices also share the same hardware specs (besides screen of course) I think it is not done on purpose that the iPhone at the moment has better specs. If the iPad is updated sometime before the next iPhone then I'm sure that it will be hardware wise superior. Of course for a company like Apple your argument makes some sense..
 
I think the iPad had a longer development cycle, and that meant they had the specs pretty much solidified long before the release date.

Meanwhile the iPhone 4 had a much shorter development cycle, and it's very likely that they didn't pick the specs until after the iPad specs were picked out.

It probably also didn't help that they were trying to bring the costs down of the iPad, considering they knew they wanted to meet their $500 goal. The iPhone 4 isn't even that cheap when you consider the no-contract pricing.

So those reasons all helped contribute to why the iPhone 4 has better specs. I think at Apple they knew all along that they iPhone would always have the better specs because it will always be released months after a new iPad comes out. This is smart from a business standpoint, that way every new product released looks better than the last one.

It would be kind of silly if the iPhone 4 came out with worse specs than the iPad, people would think Apple wasn't being fair to iPhone owners. When the next iPad comes out, it will have better specs than the iPhone 4, and that makes perfect sense.
 
The point is that everyone knew Apple would soon refresh their iPhone line. You knew what features would probably be coming, or you could have waited a few weeks to be sure. The iPad was released first with a feature set everyone acknowledged was limited. No camera, low memory, same old iOS, etc. Every hypothetical refresh to the iPhone line gave it more features than the iPad. Every leak suggested iPhone 4 would be a wonderful product.

Your question should not be why Apple acted one way or another, but why you did.
 
Of course they didn't. The iPhone 4 is more recent than the iPad so of course it is better in some ways (e.g. 512MB of RAM vs the 256MB in the iPad). Time moves on, technology moves on, and just sometimes two products from the same company, even though only separated by a few months in terms of launch date, will fall either side of a point in time when it was possible to bump up the spec for something like CPU power (which they didn't do with the iPhone 4 by the way, it's less powerful than the iPad), RAM, screen resolution, camera spec, flash capacity or whatever.

As for the Retina screen, that wasn't possible to implement in the iPad at the time and still isn't possible now.

I haven't sold mine. And I've seen about 3 threads saying they sold their iPad for the iPhone 4.

I personally love my iPad but I also have an iPhone 4 because. It's my phone? Lol
 
iPod touch 3rd gen, released a few months after the 3GS, actually ran faster than the 3GS because it had an improved CPU architecture or something - I forget the exact details, but I remember being surprised that related products released only a few months apart had such a major technical difference. But no one sold their 3GS for the 3rd gen touch, because, duh, one is a phone and the other is not. Now, the iPad is a tablet, the iPhone4 isn't. For those of us who want/need a tablet, it makes no difference what the iPhone's technical specs are, we will be very happy with our iPads until the next gen is released.

The 3GS and iPod touch 3rd gen use the exact same processor and RAM... Neither was faster than the other.
 
Show me another tablet device that comes close to the feature set of the iPad for the price of the iPad that is available now.

Show me another smartphone that aggressively competes with the iPhone.

The competition of devices must be taken into account.
 
No, it was an accident, because usually, when Apple updates their products, they design the new products to be worse than the current ones :rolleyes:
 
Love my iPad and will also more than likely love my iPhone 4 arriving in the next few days. Both have different uses but the combo can't be beaten for my usage.

Be happy with what you have, they still function as intended after all. The poster with the Ikea table example is on the money

Well it's a year ago, so it's hard to find. I googled "ipod touch faster than iphone" and found a bunch of articles about how the 2nd gen touch was faster than the 3G. Can't find any speed comparisons between 3rd gen touch and 3GS, so I may have confused generations here, but the point stands that Apple has previously released iProducts a few months apart with a somewhat major new tweak in the later product.
