The news are just repeating the rumor, its not a fact at the moment untill its official.
Just like the rumors and news about the iPad confirmed to be on Verizon.

Thank you for pointing out the difference between fact and repeated rumor. I can't believe the explosion of speculation I saw here today based on not much more than is usually rumored. I have no idea where the new "iPhone HD" stuff came from, but people have been throwing "iPhone 4G" around as if oblivious to the fact that there will be no such device this year because of the total lack of 4G networks.

Underestand that "4G" in iPhone talk does not have anything to do with the network 4G talk (WiMax, LTE, etc). People are referring to the 4th generation of the iPhone itself. That is most certainly (well, as certain as we can be at this time) going to come out this June. The bigger question/rumor is will there also be a version on the Verizon network later in the year.

I can care less :)
Im a realist and say it as I see it though.
I know its hard to take sometimes while you get your hopes up and then another year with the same letdown I guess:D

I don't have any hopes one way or the other. I'm interested though, because the iPhone on Verizon is such an obvious win for both Apple and Verizon that it's equally obvious that it's going to happen at some point. And given the wide play of this rumor, it's obvious that it was an intentional leak and indicates it's likely to happen this year.

Time will tell, and it really doesn't matter to me, but I do find the diversity of opinion fascinating, especially the naysayers in the face of something that is so obvious.

Is it coming to SPRINT? I hope it does. It's way cheaper. I get unlimited data, talk, and text for 32.50.

That's far less obvious. Personally, I doubt it. Not enough to gain for either Sprint or Apple, and the premium that Apple would demand per phone certainly couldn't be supported at $32.50.

SERO? And what phone do you currently have? Don't get everyone all excited because you do not have a standard plan and you certainly do not have a plan that even Sprint would allow on an iPhone (just like they would not allow the SERO folks get a Palm Pre w/o switching to a standard data plan).

No, because there won't be a CDMA iPhone.

Didn't people say a few years ago that there won't be an iPad?

Apple will develop a CDMA iPhone. Who knows when though. Might be released this year, might not be released until 2012 (in time for the end of hte Mayan calendar).

Why not one iPhone that can do CDMA and GSM. Kind of like the Blackberry implements this type of functionality. CDMA Storm 2 with slot for GSM card over sees.

Some may be that way. But even if they are, they're quite misleading. When you talk phones, 3G and 4G pretty much mean one thing, and we're talking network. When it's probably just plain wrong to call it the iPhone 4G, it wouldn't be so hard to say "the next iPhone."

With the advent of this "iPhone HD" moniker, I could get really into it on how dumb of a name that would be considering HD = high definition. Even doubling the resolution won't make it on par with 720p televisions, which means it would be just some dumb marketing thing like the Zune HD or HD radio. I don't know if I can swallow that with all the "full HD" crap I see in ads. I know I'm on a tangent, but I can't wait for that crap to disappear in about five years when resolution better than 1080p comes around.

it could be the same, but maybe there won't be a sim card slot for the Verizon version. However, I highly doubt there will be a Verizon one.

I suggest they start naming iPhone models after fruits.

  • iPhone Kiwi
  • iPhone Banana
  • iPhone Orange
  • iPhone Cantaloupe

Why do so many people care about a CDMA iPhone? If you like Verizon or Sprint service get an Android phone or a Palm Pre. Apple doesn't seem to care that they are giving away 1/2 the US market on a silver platter to Android so why should anyone else?

My dream at one time was for a Verizon iPhone. AT&T doesn't even provide service in my area. Then the Droid came and I have been very happy with it. I know the next one will only be better. I have an iPod Touch as well so I can play with the OS if I want, but honestly my iPod Touch seems pretty boring next to my Droid.

do you have any proof saying its not acording to WSJ they say yes there is a Verizon phone coming. before you saying its just a rumor and all WSJ has predicted allot of apple rumors

And many of them they got them wrong. The Verizon iPhone rumor has been long ever since 2007 and to date, nothing...

No, people were saying there was going to be an Mac OS X based netbook or tablet. Not an iPhone OS based enlarged iPod Touch. It was just before the release of the iPad that stories changed. Also, all the same sources that say Verizon would get the iPad exclusivity are the same ones that say Verizon is getting the iPhone next Summer. Interesting how wrong they were.

This time there's a lot of juice behind it - very broad play in many respectable journalistic outlets (if such a thing actually exists). The fact that when specifically asked about the Verizon rumor, Apple had "no comment" is telling. It would have been easy to disclaim, or even hedge, in order to protect their wireless partner, but they didn't.

Furthermore, the wireless landscape has changed a lot. Google is now a bigger threat to Apple than any company has ever been before, and their big lever is Android. Apple need a competitive hook now - they can no longer afford to ignore Verizon's 91 million customers, currently the sole playground of the Droid. And a GSM-equivalent is just around the corner.

Time will tell, but 2007 in the wireless industry has absolutely nothing to do with 2010.

We have better coverage with Verizon, very crappy with ATT. My freinds have Iphones so I know.

Again, I think this was historically true. I live in Chicago. My roommate has a verizon bb curve. I had a nokia phone on att till last December when I got the iphone. I was dropping calls a lot last year and the 3g reception on my nokia was spotty and dropping. I can honestly say it's done a 180 recently. It works great, the speeds are fast with the exception of some peak times. Granted Chicago was one of the first cities they upgraded to 7.2, but in my opinion and the recent testing that's come out, ATT is much improved and most of the "opinions" are because of what happened after the iphone came out and taxed the network and now those opinions have become permanent fact. It's the age old perception is reality.

well it could easily be Apple does what RIM does for the Storm. It includes both chips and can take a sim card.

Apple could very well just simple sell the phones so it would work on all networks world wide. CDMA or GSM

You do realize the Storm only works on Verizon in the US and only on Voda abroad right? You can't use it on GSM in the US. This has nothing to do with the limitation of the technology, its all about money.

Correct. I spend a lot of time in Haiti and considered a Blackberry Tour or other world phone, but it turned out to be cheaper to just rent a Verizon GSM phone and international package for each trip over, and cheaper still to buy a pre-paid GSM phone in Haiti.

Hi,

If the competition is Apple versus Android why would Apple consider a Verizon iPhone?

Go to the Verizon store and you will see that Androids are prominently displayed, a full line compared to the ATT store where Apple is prominently displayed.

To me it would make sense for Apple to partner with a carrier that primary staple device is the Apple iPhone compared to the iPhone and Androids.

Wishful thinking, The iPad on Verizon had lots of 'juice' to it, and look, you got a prune. Like I said, it's a rumor that won't happen.
