You do realize the Storm only works on Verizon in the US and only on Voda abroad right? You can't use it on GSM in the US.

Sure you can.

When its GSM side is unlocked, the Verizon Storm works on ATT's GSM network. So do many of the other CDMA+GSM dual mode phones they sell, such as the HTC Imagio.

Here's even a video of how to unlock the Storm for ATT... if you pay these guys for the code.

However, you can also just ask Verizon nicely for your GSM unlock code and usually get it if you're a customer in good standing.

The only thing you cannot do is get 3G on ATT, because their UMTS frequency is different than Europe and Asia. (GSM may be a "world standard", but only if your phone supports the particular frequencies allocated in your location.)

exactly. and yes, GSM is a world standard. most gsm phones are quadband gsm which work pretty much everywhere. the iPhone with triband 3G seems to cover many many countries with just 1 model.

for many manufacturers they seem to make 2 different models when it comes to umts bands. for ex, 850/1900/2100 and 900/1700/2100. would be nice if they could work on quadband or pentaband 3G to really cover most carriers/countries.

The skinny

if any other US carrier is gonna get the iPhone it will be Tmobile...and that my friends is the skinny...The third year of exclusivity has not expired...AT&T has Apple as a partner until the end of the next fiscal...so maybe big red will get some love next summer...but then I still doubt it
