Context is the key. I have seen news guests/anchors that have clothes more revealing than the picture on the first post. But still its not sexualized.
Case in point…Spanish TV channels, weather and traffic reporters, novelas and game shows. Even some commercials.

When I was younger I was never watching those stations to learn Spanish.

Ok fair enough, it seems I'm being a bit silly here, sounds like the image isn't that bad. Thanks for the replies.

I'd prefer this image:

I'm trying to keep this sort of porn-y content away from someone in my family for as long as I can. I know it's a losing battle and I'm probably wasting my time. I think I'll have to move everyone in my family off of Apple products if this keeps happening.

Am I overreacting or do you think this is a bit over the top on a Maps app?
I don’t see anything “porny” here. I am more scared to see 70+ years old celebrities trying to look young after 20 rounds of plastic surgery, that’s what creepy.

Thanks for your pontification. Somehow our kids grow up just fine. You don’t need to understand or agree with a religiously observant lifestyle. But respect for others way of life is always appreciated.

My point, in this post, is that the advertising today is pushing morally questionable images without the ability to turn it off.

I don’t care about Dolly Parton’s choice of dress and I’m not going to opine on the OP. However, Apple and Amazon have put lingerie advertising which, most would agree, is highly suggestive.

I am saying simply that it would be nice if one could choose what form of advertising is being shoved in our face.

And, that the OP should rethink giving a smartphone to a 4 y/o.
There is nothing morally questionable in that photo. Regardless of age.

Look at it like this, for a 4 year old it has probably been more recent to burry his face one some like that compared to you.
Just be happy it’s soft core, that’s worth a lot these days.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm overreacting here. I open up the Apple Maps app and search for something, and this Guide pops up.

Dolly Parton in a skimpy low-cut red outfit, with her huge fake breasts. Right in my face. Apple Maps is rated for ages 4+.

Is there any way to disable Apple's forced Guides?
I don’t think a 4 year old would find that porn-y. Maybe a 12 year old?

Yes, and then our precious ‘content creators’ edit them into their videos… it’s worse than Jason on Friday the 13th
I would rather have that than ads that have nothing to do with the product. JayZ and his iFixIt intros are funny.

The breasts are fully covered and there is no visible cleavage to speak of. I think OP sexualized it in his own perverted mind due to the fact that the subject just happens to have large breasts. The image is entirely appropriate within any context and all age groups.

Exactly this. I remember when I was a kid I didn’t find anything interesting about breasts or even someone completely naked. I’m only a sample size of one so maybe other kids are different but I don’t suspect a four year old will get the same meaning of breasts as an adult. Obviously, you don’t want to expose him to sexually explicit content, but I don’t think this falls under that.

Some have taken this thread to complain about ideological views that a child might be exposed to. That’s a whole different ball of wax. Your own ideological views will determine what you feel is appropriate for your child. What you feel is appropriate could be completely inappropriate in the mind of another parent.

The forced nature of the add is bad.

The picture is fine. She’s 76 and looks fantastic!

All the anger toward the original poster about giving his 4 year old an iPhone when he didn’t say that in his original post and even clarified in a later post that his child is much older is lame.

Summary:
Ad = bad
Picture = fine
Anger = lame

Wow, you realise how US centred MacRumors is when we get forum posts like these. A woman’s body isn’t an object of morality, it’s a woman’s body - a healthy, normal, functional thing that Dolly herself, kinda needs to be alive and move around etc. The breasts are the question - and again fake or not, large or small - female bodies still HAVE BREASTS and that’s ok. Leave your puritan upbringing behind and enter an age of reason, please - for the sake of the children ironically!

I know people who would never allow their kids to see a bare backside but any amount of violence in movies or video games is fine. I‘ve never understood. I’m in the US.

Dolly Parton and Porny in the same sentence? WTH? Dolly Parton is one of the most real, down to earth, modest, humble, giving people on this planet, and you insult her like she's trashy porn? Judgmental much? Hope you don't go out in public at all if you think this is porn. Have you seen what the tween and teen girls wear to school lately? Give a child a smartphone?

Dolly Parton is most well-known in her home state for being an incredibly generous philanthropist.

Dolly Parton is not only wildly talented, but she’s also charitable.

Parton has long been a philanthropist, but she does so with little publicity or fanfare.

Listen to and read the words to her humble childhood story

Dolly Parton sends my kids free books in the mail. She's a true American Hero.

I'm quoting you in order to mention something not yet brought up about Dolly…

If you look through her history of photos and media content you might find that it's very rare to see her in anything other than a dress with long sleeves or pants and a shirt.

I've never seen her in shorts and it's extremely rare to see her with bare shoulders or uncovered arms.

Just an observation…
