Not just money but time spent getting an appointment, driving, waiting, picking it up. That's worth a lot of money and stress.

I would add as well that if you own a less popular model/capacity you may also have to wait for it to either be shipped to you or to the store. When I replaced my 11PM, I had to wait a week for the phone to ship to me. But, that was primarily because they didn't have the 512GB in-store. Fortunately, I was able to ride it out with my 6s+ for that week.

I would add and argue, the much bigger PITA is getting all your apps re-signed in, along with setting up financial apps, 2FA, etc.

I can see where that is a hassle, but for me there are reasons (such as this hassle) for why I do things a certain way.

Whenever I know I am going to replace a device, I back up to iCloud, remove FindMy and log out of my Apple ID. Typically, the only issues I have when restoring to a new device is my own home network WiFi passwords.

Last time around though, I purposely bought a 2TB sub to iCloud just for the convenience of backing up all my photos. Now, I don't use iCloud for photos. I use Dropbox, but I periodically clean out my Camera Uploads folder on Dropbox, so I have every photo I've put on my iPhone (and kept) since 2012 backed up to my NAS.

iCloud let me down that year. It didn't back up everything on my iPhone, despite my photos being well within the 2TB subscription limit (and all of them existing themselves on my 512GB iPhone). I had to go to all my backups and drop them into the Photos app on my Mac to get them fully restored to my iPhone.

So, from that perspective it was a PITA. But that was only the second phone I had to replace due to a drop in what was then 11 years.

As someone who drop the phone on a concrete floor at least once a year, yes. I just did it 2 years ago because I tried to put mine in my pocket but did not succeed because my hoodie blocked my pocket, but I didn’t realize. But thankfully I have the Apple official clear case. My phone was free from damage. The case now have noticeable damage but even though it does not affect daily usage.

Other than that, I sometimes enjoy using my phone without case, or half-without case. I mean, I did tried the “PhoneBack” from Suti, which only covers the back of the iPhone through Magnet, and not the sides (similar to the Smart Folio for iPads). It feels great, while my complaint is the magnetic is not strong enough for my MagSafe accessories. Other than that, it would be a perfect case for aesthetics or indoors.

You do well dropping your iPhone to concrete just once a year. Mine (14 Pro, 15 Pro, 16 Pro Max) drop to concrete dozens of times a year, caseless. Modern iPhones are very very tough. The only damage I have seen so far is a little rough spot on the edge if the iPhone lands on a corner.

In the old days when iPhones were not so tough and I used cases I was constantly wearing out cases.

I always have that feeling when I inadvertently drop my iPhone like that. With my 15 pro not as often but my 7 and 5s I dropped the most.

I went through the most screen protectors on my first two iPhones too. I am still on the first screen protector on my 15 pro since I bought it; it only slid off my pocket one time at home.

Been caseless fro a while now and not had any problems. Have AC+ also. Question is, so you caseless guys have screen protectors on? I do, but thinking of just taking it off? Not had any problems and as I say I have AC+.

No case, no screen protector either. And I work in the building trades, construction. Although I try not to let my phone touch offensive stuff, I worry less about metal like keys and am more concerned with sand/rock. I make sure the pocket I keep my phone in doesn’t have other things that might transfer sand to the pocket. A grain of sand will scratch the screen all day long.

I second grain of sand. I dropped my Apple watch in the mountains …. Watch Ultra. Screen was perfect for 2-3 years going on until that fateful day. There a divot now on the screen.

I use a screen protector and a skin on my 15PM. It was the best decision for me and I will never go back to a case again. I also have Applecare+, but don’t have the time to visit the Apple Store for a screen replacement, so the screen protector is the best option for me.

Do you live far from an Apple Store? Many people in this situation would find it difficult when it comes to mail in repairs and they don’t live near an Apple Store, but you can take advantage of express replacement.

I can’t stand how cases go sticky feeling with the oils from our hands over time so that’s the reason I go caseless.

I’ve had a couple drops but luckily no damage to screen, just the corner.

I use to ruin my phones by putting them in the same pocket as my keys and would get loads of micro scratches. I now just one pocket for my phone and it’s near mint condition still after a year.

Mine goes in my back rear pocket (by itself) when standing/walking. Center console cup holder in the car, a business card holder on my desk and a business card holder on my nightstand.

If I happen to be in a restaurant or someplace where I will sit down, front left pocket or underneath my left thigh. Sometimes I will put it on the table, but only if I know the area is clean or there is something to stick under it. Usually that's only if the space isn't cramped.

I use an apple silicone case and a screen protector.

I use a case because I feel the phone is slick and has sharp corners and isn't that comfortable to hold. I play mobile games where I hold the phone for 20-30 minutes straight. I think the soft, rubbery texture of the silicone case is perfect.

I use a screen protector because I didn't on my 12pm and got a couple nicks on the screen that I saw literally every time I used the phone. A good, tempered glass protector installed correctly can't even be noticed. I always buy several so any bubbles or cracks and I throw it out and try again.

I've never experienced that -- and if I did, I feel like I'd probably toss that thing in the trash straightaway. Perhaps your experience has something to do with the type of case you used to use? (I'm currently using this case.)

I also don't experience the stickiness with the apple silicone case. They do wear pretty quickly though, so I typically buy something similar, but cheaper to start with and wait for the silicone cases to go on sale. I got my current one for $11 and actually bought 2 of them at that price.

I’ve just bought apple silicone or leather. The leather ones wore the best but still didn’t feel great once worn in.

My wife has the silicone now and they feel great at first but just in time I find it oils of our hands.. or sticky kid fingers etc..

I have to make a real effort to keep mine mint as if rushing it’s very easy to shove it wrong pocket with keys.

Or I did work construction for a period and like others said grit or dirt in pockets was a screen killer!

No I live within 30 minutes from a few Apple Stores. I work a manual labor job anywhere from 8-10 hours a day up to 6 days a week, so on my day off I’m not spending that at an Apple Store. I used the express replacement for my AirPods Pro 2 when I washed them.

Always; and a screen protector - stops my phone from getting scratched when I'm training in the garage and using a lot of chalk; when I'm gardening, working on our cars etc

Just got x2 new 16 Pro Max Apple silicone cases (Denim and Green); both very nice. Have a Supcase rugged case for when that's needed

Ohhh I see but how long did you have AppleCare for your Apple products? Understandable that you are quite busy.
