I just handle my phone with the understanding that it's an expensive device and I've been fine for years. I don't baby it at all, but I'm always conscientious of where I set it down, what else is in my pocket with it, etc. It never occurred to me to worry about the camera lens tbh, and so far so good.

Always had a case on my 7 year old iPhone and it still looks like new not a single scratch on it and if I drop it there’s no worry or stress because it’s well protected.
You do you and good luck to you life’s too short to worry about babying your phone

One of the things you'll need to learn is to let go. The phone is a tool. I'm not saying to go off and abuse it, but tools pick up wear and tear over time. It's something you'll have to learn to accept if you want to go caseless.

I have a set of rules that I apply to myself concerning how I handle my phones - because I use them without cases. If you care to know what those are, then just start browsing the stickied thread on not using cases at the top of this subforum. Most people have heard me go on at length about not using cases by now, so I won't repeat myself here.

No, unless I am heading out on the bike then I’ll use a QuadLock case.

I don’t understand the logic of spending money on buying a beautifully designed product, only to cover it up and never see it.

If the answer is “because it keeps it in good condition for when I sell it on”, then I become even more confused.

Why invest good money in something you’ll never see, and furthermore keeping it nice for the benefit of the next owner?

Bonkers.

So you don’t understand that not everyone lives the sheltered life you do and actually use the phone as a tool rather than jewelry?

I’m an outdoor professional, that means not hours but weeks and months at a time out in the elements, mountaineering, ice climbing, harsh travel conditions etc. If the phone were to get damaged because I want to show off it’s pretty design and it’s abilities then become compromised, then that idiotic move is on me.

No matter how strong they make these phones, they are delicate in broad terms.

So I have never gone without a case but I’m wanting to get the Apple care + and not worry as much. For you app that go without a case how do you protect the camera lens when setting it down on tables etc?
Phone doesn’t rest on top of camera lens, just on the edge. If have a case like say a bumper then you’d want a bit of clearance. Since lens is sapphire would even be ok resting on lens, maybe even ok if you drag lens across table

Yes, and always have since the iPhone 6. I’ve got pretty small hands, and those phones can be quite slippery as well. It feels much better having a case around my iPhone. I do always feel a little bad about it, considering how much I’ve loved some of the designs and colors.

Yes, I do always. If for some reason, it breaks or shatters and I need to use AppleCare plus, then I have to go through the hassle of having it sent in and get it fixed and I don’t want to go through those hassles. So I’d rather have a case and screen protector on it. It’s cheap insurance to have a case and screen protector.

Yea I’d love to see the cosmic orange. I guess a clear case is ok but I’ll see

I did try a clear case from Apple onces, but I was immediately put of by how it felt. Absolutely hated the plasticky feeling of it, and went back to silicone cases again. Such a shame, as I thought a clear case could meet me halfway. And there’s certainly better clear cases on the market. But I prefer having a case from Apple themselves (or at least another well-known premium brand).

But this is of course my personal experience. Others may vary.

I plan to go for the iPhone 17 Pro - in orange. It seems to be the only "actual" color in the entire lineup.
I currently use the XR in Red with no case and I plan not to get a case for the 17 Pro either. But I just wonder how bad it is laying it down flat on the table.

I never use a case. I think it’s a shame not to feel the glass back and the metal frame. On top of that, a case makes an iPhone look less attractive. If you’re mindful when taking your phone out of your pocket and not careless, nothing is likely to happen anyway. Plus, I have insurance that covers screen damage both at home and outside, and I’d rather pay for that than use a case.

I always say: my car is worth much more and I don't use a "case" for it either.

I believe a case negatively impacts the haptics of the phone in such a way that it slips out even more easily of your hand while you remove it from your pocket.

Kudos, that's funny! No case for a car!

I use a bumper case on my current iPhone because it's protective and I can easily pinch it out of my pocket versus grab it out my pocket. But yes, it negatively affects the haptics and buttons so my next iPhone I'm going with no case and in addition, less weight and bulk
