I use a rear basic case. However, I wanted a case with magnets in the rear for the basic iPad, but I haven't found it yet.
iPads in general are a hell, ergonomically speaking. Some cases do help.

I have a blue ZUGU case protecting my blue iPad Air 5th generation. I spent too much on the tablet to use it unprotected on a regular basis.

Case is King. I’ve seen way to many shattered iPad screens, while others look like they were used as hockey pucks and still more that suffered that ONE unfortunate tumble, denting the corner or shattering the glass. All it takes is ONE tumble. Case negates most of these misfortunes. Necessary step for expensive toys IMO.

I use a Magic Keyboard as a dock, and when I take the iPad somewhere, the Apple plain magnetic folio for basic protection (magnets are fun!). I also have a Logitech Combo Touch, which is brilliant (fans of the Surface Pro will appreciate it). But I stuck with the Magic Keyboard, as it can charge the iPad through the keyboard's power port, as opposed to needing to plug the charger into the iPad's USB-C port for the Logitech.

I agree, this is a big advantage of Magic Keyboard 👍🏻

I protect my 2018 iPad Pro 11" (A12x Bionic) with a Zugu case. The Zugu case is worthy of this fine iPad Pro.

Yup. I use a case on all my ipads. Both my 11” ipad pro & my ipad mini. They aren’t bulky at all. They protect them. They hold the apple pencil in a secure cutout. And they have a convenient stand I use when I don’t want to physically hold my ipad.
