I’ve always had a film screen protector on my Apple devices since I used the iPhone 4 without one and got a small scratch on it. I then bought a screen protector so that I didn’t notice the scratch and have used one ever since.

With my iPhones I sometimes had just a back cover, but for iPads I use a case.

I’m always going to keep a glass screen protector on my 1TB iPad Pro. I installed one the very second I peeled the apple plastic off of it. When I go to re-sale it, it’ll be “screen never touched”

It is impossible to keep them from scratching.

Bought my 11” Pro from BB as lightly used, and it came with a protector the prior owner had put on, then it got scratched up so I put a Zagg one on recently (not a huge fan, too glossy/glass like for the pencil, I’ll go back to matte when this one get scratched).

I never use them for my iPhones and prior iPads, but using the Pencil makes me want one. If I was just using my fingers I wouldn’t bother.

This brings me back to the never ending question, are we saying if someone is using an Apple Pencil there is a chance of the iPad Screen getting scratched ?? That is a big big statement !!

Yes there is a big chance of it scratching the screen. You can scratch the screen by rubbing to hard with a microfiber cloth. These are all just minor scratches, but with a sun light, or in direct sunlight they are there.

A fly fart will scratch an iPad screen. They are very fragile. Lol

Never used a screen protector on any unit and as worst I got a few micro scratches on some iPhone. It degrades the user experience enough for me to not bother. The pencil would most likely make the screen scratch less than fingers because neither pen or fingers can scratch the screen by itself, it is dirt being dragged that does it.

hyperbole aside, that's simply not true. If one uses their iPads in situations that will make the iPad prone to scratches, absolutely use a protector... but for general use, a protector is not needed.

With the iPad Case I have that covers the screen while not in use, I see no need for one. The only time my iPad would normally be exposed to screen scratching is stowage during travel or transport, and the case has got that covered.

Link? Sparked my curiosity.
ELECOM Liquid crystal protection film for iPad Pro 9.7 inch fingerprint prevention Air-less high definition anti-reflection TB-A16FLFAHD (Japan Import)

It is anti glare but not the same matte feel as the totally matte protectors. So if your looking for a paper feel for your pencil, this won’t do that. What it does give you is great anti glare without screen quality reduction. It does take about 3 weeks to get it - ships from Japan.

I know, but scratches bother me. It is difficult to keep your screen from scratching, or building with micro scratches. And it is a lot of work to maintain that nice screen.

I had a 10.5 iPad Pro that got a deep scratch on the screen while using the Apple Pencil. This was because the tip was at the end of its life and a small chip broke off, revealing a sharp section that dug into the screen. I’m using a protector this time with the 11” and changing the pencil tip sooner!

Okay so I’ve only changed the tip once and I had no idea if it needed to be changed. So how do you know when it needs to be changed before it’s gone too far?

Do you travel to Japan for work? That’s pretty cool.

Curious to see how many people use a screen protector like tempered glass or a film on their iPad.

Why would you not? They are transparent. Some have anti-glare. They do not interfere with touch gestures. They protect an even larger surface areas than an iPhone. And they can be bought on Amazon for maybe $11 or so?

They have almost no bad side. Only good side. Why would you not use it?

A friend believes that screen protectors interfere with the home button and eventually cause it to become ineffective, but I’m not sure I agree. I had issues with one out of three devices.

Yes I have a tempered glass screen protector on both my iPad Pro and iPad mini and even my Xs max.

I had my iPad Air 2 for 2.5 years and I used a glass screen protector. The home button still worked when I upgraded to the iPad Pro. My iPad Pro 10.5 will be 2 years old in July. I’ve used a glass screen protector on it since day one and the home button still worked.

How would a screen protector affect the home button.. it doesn't even touch.

Some of the film ones might. The cut outs aren’t always the best. My current one, though not touching, is closer on two sides of the button than the other two.
