That's the point. I use aliases in my Outlook account. Aliases are just addresses associated with your main email account. Note that you can use them to do everything (send and receive emails) but instead of relying on different accounts, you just have a central place with your email. You can create multiple inboxes within your email and set up some rules so that any email sent to a work alias (for instance) goes to a different inbox.
You can create up to 10 aliases in Outlook. That means you can set up a personal alias, a work related one, one dedicated to major services you use everyday (Facebook, YouTube), one that serves as a dump for those quick registrations in services you are not sure your gonna use, one for online shopping, and so forth.
I completely get it now. Sorry, that it took me a while, lol. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to create a whole new Apple ID to get an iCloud because I registered with a gmail

Dammit. I really want to make an iCloud email for everything Apple related: app purchases, iOS file syncing.
Any particular reason (except OCD ;))? At the end of the day, the Apple ID is just a user name. Doesn't really matter what email domain it has.

Remember that any purchases you have cannot be transferred to another Apple account.

Haha, OCD indeed! ;) I just think it makes sense to have anything Apple related to iCloud.com domain since it's made for that. Just like gmail should be used with anything google related such as doc, keep etc

I only have one email address (google), which I use for everything including iCloud.
However, I've been wondering if that's not such a great idea. Do you guys have more emails for different tasks? Like: 1 for iCloud, 1 for professional use, 1 for signing up to your favorite apps/websites such as macrumors..

Since my personal email got spammed last year, i've changed it, and it never gets loose online ever... Problem solved.. :D

Rather use a throw-away account by Gmail for all online use... If a site requires it for identification type purposes, then i won't use the site.

If u have more than 1 email address, unless u use a password manager to keep them all and THAT never gets loose either, u'd have a job remember which one you used where.

Its a public email address.... that's already says "not secure" but your passwords are unique.. and masked anyway.

So, what are your current email setup and what server do you use? :)

one email address everywhere as Gmail address itself doesn't matter if passwords are all unique, *which they are on every site i login to*

Since i access Gmail always via Apple mail, app specific password which also never gets loose, i don't see any spam, as i hide Inbox "Spam" labels externally.

I think i've only released my personal email to family, and it accidentally got outwhen my parents forwarded the email to her friends, so now i have learnt my lesson.

Nope. I don't care for Apple's email services or other services. I find that they are way to bare boned.

When I switched away from windows phone I stopped using outlook.com to gmail. I think almost everything about outlook is better, but I live in the google ecosystem

So, you kept using your outlook app for your gmail account? Can you elaborate why you switched to gmail.com? Everyone advices me to make the switch to outlook mail service. I'd love to hear your opinion :)

Aliases are excellent, and you can go a step further than using iCloud and Outlook type providers and get your own domain. Say that you buy the domain myemails.com, you can then set up as many aliases as you want of the form xxxx@myemails.com. Of course, this is no longer free (you pay to buy the domain and pay a company to host it).

One thing to bear in mind with aliases ... ensure any email software you use will use the alias as the sender address. No point in trying to be clever and hiding the actual email address only to find that all your sent mails (replies or new) go from that address!

No, I don't use the Outlook app, I use Airmail as I am a power user. I use Gmail for third party integration that a lot of tools still don't support with Outlook.com. I think Outlook.com looks better in every way and has a way better design, but as stated, using it with third party services (such as: IFTTT, Google Now, etc) is impossible. I would switch to it though if you're getting tired of Google. I really only switched when I moved away from Windows Phone because I no longer had to rely on Microsoft. (Google are *******s and purposely throttle functionality of Gmail and claim its the OEM. An example is when they disabled push notifications on iOS to get people to use their Gmail app)

First things, given my job, I have a company email address that use for all my professional interactions. For my personal email I use my @mac.com account. I also have a couple of email accounts that use for online stuff, whether its macrumors or other sites.

I never had an issue with gmail, but I often get mails from google warning me that someone from China or whatever tried to break into my mail. It terrifies me. I appreciate google trying to warn me, but it makes me worried. I wonder if outlook is more secure, and if it lets me known when a different device attempts to login my mail..
When you mean third party apps doesn't work with outlook, does that apply YouTube, google docs, and all sort of stuff?

Cool. I defiantly need to create s new private email with alias, because I was borrowing someone's iCloud to purchase an item outside the us, and we have some complication. I trust him. I have nothing to hide... but still, I think it's best I start over with my Apple ID. My intention was not to use different mail services, but since everyone tells me I should go away from gmail and use iCloud and outlook I'm trying to decide...

You should change your password then.

When I mean third party apps, I mean things like Google Scripts, Boomerang, etc. Why they only just got some of these, they aren't as powerful as their Gmail counterpart.

I have an icloud.com address that is used just for iCloud (I don't use it for email).
I have a main gmail.com address that is used for iTunes/App Store and is my personal email address.
I have a couple of other "junk" addresses for signing up for stuff, most online shopping, etc.

What
<address>@<custom domain> is what I use for personal and professional email.
<name>@icloud.com forwards to customer domain. I'm trying to get everything off of it.

Why
Simplicity - I use a custom domain for my primary email address because I can move it to any hosting service that I want, and my contacts don't need to change anything.

Gmail filters have done a great job of filtering spam, newsletters, and solicitations out so I don't see the need for a "junk" email address. It adds extra complexity without much benefit.

I've toyed around with the idea of having financial accounts use my iCloud address, and everyone else use my primary email address. That would add some "security through obscurity" protection, but I haven't done that yet.

How
The custom domain hosted by Google G Suite . I did that because it was $5 / month, has the great gmail tools for email filtering, and I could add Google Busines Drive , Youtube Red, and other services to it for cheap.

Legacy email addresses forward to the custom domain, and gmail tags them so that I know they were forwarded and need to be reviewed.

When
I've use a large number of email address systems over the years, from super complex to simple. Right now, I'm in the process of letting old domains expire and making sure any accounts that used their email address are updated to point to my new, "one email address to rule them all" address.

Who
Me

This is a great thread, Reading through the posts reminded me of systems I've used in the past.

THE MOST COMPLEX SYSTEM EVER
The most complex system I've used was where I created unique email alias for every login account that I created. The goal was to allow me to delete email addressed that got spammed, and also to detect companies that shared my email address with 3rd parties. For example, if I created jagooch.macrumors@domain.com for Macrumors, and then I received an email through that address from someone else, I'd know that Macrumors had sold me out. :)

VERY late to this post - but I started using my domain email [firstname]@[lastname].[country], and it's awesome.

Did you end up switching to iCloud Mail?

Honestly, it's flawless. I've never seen it do any of the bad things that people have described in this thread so far.
That's great. Others don't have that experience, though. And their mail servers aren't set up right for proper DKIM and SPF...especially if sending from iCloud.com.

Anyone that's curious, just check it out on https://www.mail-tester.com.

What is that supposed to mean? How is it relevant?
Maybe because of this

Help prevent spoofing and spam with DKIM

Protect against spoofing & phishing, and help prevent messages from being marked as spam

But I never have a problem, that makes my email from the iCloud address go to the spam folder on Gmail thought.

That has to do with Google, not Apple.
Yup, that is true, but if Apple does not set it up correctly there is a possibility that it will go to the spam folder of Gmail if you use your iCloud address to someone with a Gmail address.
Even though as I mentioned above it never had that problem as far as I know it.

What are the chances of Apple not setting it up correctly? If most people haven't had a problem with it, it shouldn't be an issue.
