iPhone X Do you use your iPhone as a wifi hotspot and what for?

Yes I use it as a WiFi hotspot for my iPad mini when I’m on the go.

I’ve very infrequently used hotspot. Use cases have been: power outages at home and still have good laptop battery charges, areas of slow public WiFi, public WiFi where my VPN doesn’t connect for whatever reason, and lastly in an area without WiFi coverage to update the firmware in my car.
