Nah, the iPad Pro display is amazing as it is.

I have both a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 (OLED display) and an iPad Pro 10.5 (non OLED). Yes, the colors are a bit more poppy on the Samsung and the blacks are "blacker", but that's about it. The difference is not that huge to be honest.

Pretty much every reviewer I've seen has raved about how good the display and hardware is on the iPad Pro 2018 models. Go look at them yourself in an Apple Store if you can, but also ask yourself....what is your choice? There isn't an iPad with OLED, so what difference does it make. You don't seriously believe Apple is selling a subpar display on their top of the line iPad do you?

Oled/microled display for iPad could be so expensive for buyers that apple uses subpar technology for iPad Pro (retina liquid)

Call me crazy but I prefer apple’s IPS technology. I do appreciate perfect blacks but I think the IPS colors look better... not to mention the lack of blue tint off-axis.

For any multimedia consumption OLED is superior in all sense. For working and productivity tasks ips could be superior

I think it has a beautiful display, but I do find myself wishing it had OLED when I'm using it in the evening or in the dark watching a movie in bed with my wife. Dark areas are still pretty bright and it's noticeable having had an iPhone X and XS. The reason I still haven't upgraded to a new TV is that I've been waiting on the price of OLED to come down, but I've also heard about various issues users of OLED TVs seem to have. I was planning to upgrade to a new model post-CES but I might end up waiting another year so it can mature some more. Honestly my wallet could probably use a break because 1, I wasn't planning on upgrading to a new iPad Pro this year and 2, I'm going to be buying a higher end desktop Mac before long.

If the iPad uses an OLED screen we will not have 120Hz ProMotion and it will be a major feature regression.

Not really, many of us don't even pay attention to what it does.......not a big deal on a tablet that suppose to be a laptop replacement while plenty other hybrid devices can do so much...they can remove proMotion and give me OLED, file manager, and mouse support and I would be pleased and not even think about ProMotion.

Why is everyone saying you wouldn’t get 120Hz with an OLED display when current OLED TV’s are capable of 120Hz with apps??

As for OLED on iPad, absolutely as the black levels on these new iPads are awful, this is the one thing that’s really annoying me, definitely worse then the 12.9 inch 2015 model I bought before.

What? Since when does OLED mean you can't have 120 Hz?
This. I haven’t seen any answer to this yet.

Sure. If they made an OLED version, I wouldn’t mind paying a little more. The screen is definitely one of the draws of a tablet.

I think it would be $100 minimum, so it depends on what you would consider "a little more."
I’m not wealthy and that would be fine with me.

I’m sure it’s possible to do it, but an OLED iPad would already be insanely expensive. Make it 120Hz and you’re looking at ridiculous price increases. Apple won’t do it until it’s cost effective.

Also, the iPad Pro is supposedly for creative professionals. They want color accuracy, something LCD is usually better at. If you can get affordable 120Hz refresh rates and better color accuracy, why would they switch?

Exactly this. This is a working device, and I surely don’t need any color shifts on my screen, especially on the 12.9 size where you could probably even notice the hue shift when looking straight down on it (towards the borders). They can put their OLED (which I love on their other products) onto the consumer line, but I’d rather see them implement a more reliable screen technology on their pro devices, which so far none of seems to exist at a reasonable price. The Samsung S4 comes with roughly 450nits btw which is basically unusable outdoors.

I own a iPhone X and a 65” LGE6 OLED TV and I can tell you, the iPad screen is great.
Perhaps not those crazy punchy blacks, or all the fine highlights of a good HDR/Dolby Vision implementation but it’s definitely no disappointment. The new iPad Pro displays are awesome.

Switching to OLED would likely come with a big battery hit, especially while surfing the web or using Office or pretty much anything with alot of white/bright areas.

But Apps with black borders would be less painful to see, because this area would not glow at all.

Funny, no a 120hz OLED from Apple would be a $1,000 minimum. Then you’ll also pay extra with whatever marketing fluff they happen to call it.

I think you are confused, he’s saying a $100 extra, not a $100 for the iPad total, and it certainly wouldn’t be a $1000 on top of the current price.

And can people please explain why everyone here is thinking you can’t have a 120Hz OLED display when current LG OLED 4K TV’s are capable of this through an app, are you all confusing what HDMI is capable of right now?

You haven’t watched much dark content or stuff with black borders it seems as the iPads are absolutely awful for blacks. iPhone X and LG C8 OLED TV owner and still have my 2015 12.9 inch iPad Pro for comparison and that is slightly better in terms of blacks but not as bright as the new 11 inch.

$100 on a $100 product is significant (makes the product cost twice), but $100 on a $1500+ device is easier to swallow. If they were going big with the first true redesign since the ipad exists, they should have added an oled screen.

I was initially disappointed, coming from XS Max. Then it came in the mail. Objectively I think it looks great. Compared to my old Pro second gen, it looks even better. Love the screen. Expected to be disappointed but I am not at all!

I get your point but for some of us $1500 for an iOS based tablet is hard to swallow . . Just to get where we are today with the iPad Pros Apple introduced a 25% cost increase on the tablet and 30% increase on the peripherals (pencil and folios). I'm talking base 12.9-inch numbers here. Is a 37% increase significant?

No one is saying you can’t have 120hz OLED. Everyone is saying it’s too expensive. I also wasn’t thinking the guy was saying the iPad was going to be $100, I was saying to have a 120hz OLED would be an extra $1,000 in an iPad. Because that’s what Apple would charge for it. A capacitive touch OLED panel at high rez and 120hz isn’t cheap by any means. No matter how nice it would be doesn’t even matter. And we all know an Apple version would have an Apple tax and be labeled something crazy like Liquid Metal OLED Puff Puff Magic and believe me they’ll charge you for it.

If I had to choose between 60hz OLED or 120hz LCD, I’d choose LCD every time. However, if I could have a 120hz OLED...

OLED is natively 90Hz that's why it's used in high end VR like Occulus and Vive.

Is your LCD natively 120Hz or is it like some TVs that claim 120Hz but are actually 60Hz panel but does smoothing processing that they market as 120Hz?

Bring up https://www.displayhz.com to find out.
