Why not just use Google Docs? It is free and works great.

Because:
1. You can only edit Google Spreadsheets and I believe you cannot create new ones.
2. You cannot edit documents and powerpoint files which documents 2 go can do.
3. For me Documents to Go was more powerful on my Treo than Google dogs was on my desktop.
4. Native apps are quicker than web apps.
5. I own a Google account as my trash email account. I feel uncomftable with Google and privacy and my job feels the same way.

That is partly true. Apparently big name companies do have an idea of when their app will be published. Google, Skype, Tapulous, and others knew the exact date and time. Since Documents to Go is a very well known app, you would figure that they have a pretty good idea of when the app is hitting the store. One would also figure that since the App Store only has one comparable alternative in this space (Quickoffice) the approval process would be slightly faster.

Well, this may be true for some developers, but obviously not DataViz. Otherwise, this app would have been out last week.

Actually apps like Skype submitted their app a couple weeks in advance of a predetermined release day, and asked Apple not to release it till that day. Usually Apple approves it long before the release date.

But, a VoIP app and a word processor should be total different beasts. But you could be right. I don't know why they would want to drag their feet for release if it has been approved. There's money to be made!

I have no evidence, but I just think this app is getting repeatedly rejected. Just look what's been going on with Readdledocs. It's been rejected like 5 times in the last 10 days.

It's not uncommon for apps to take up to 10-14 days to get approved. Even without rejection. Nimblebit's app, Bluebird has been in submission for 16 days now and no word from Apple either way.

Apple still hasn't approved it yet, lol. Dang. Maybe they're going to talk about it at the conference or something.

This taking a long time to approve. I'm checking multiple times a day for this, only to be let down every time.

Getting fed up with waiting for this much needed app.

I see QuickOffice has released a fairly good update for their software. If they hadn't 'diddled' me when I bought QuickSheet I might have considered trying that one out. I don't see why I should pay twice for their app...

Well, this is kind of Dataviz's fault, for they submitted this app way too late on May 19th. No point in getting fed up or checking multiple times a day if it's not even been 2 weeks. Checking for a mere update on the Readdledoc app on the other hand....

That has been getting repeatedly rejected as well. C'mon Apple, they're just word processor apps!

well looks like the most recent update for quickoffice is getting good reviews at 4 stars average. and most likely the initial release of docs to go will have issues that will need to be sorted out with a few updates. quickoffice is looking more and more tempting...................

I don't want t get Quickoffice because I cannot edit 2007 documents. I hope DTG will be out soon.

WTF is going on with this app? I see apps that were released only a couple of days ago already have updates to them, i.e. Real Tennis!!! If the devs of docs to go are going to keep us in the dark before the app sells, imagine once we've plucked down money for the app. Even less interaction most likely!!!

I'm pretty sure the app was rejected for whatever reason, however they should keep us the potential buyers in the loop.

I think they're waiting until next week to release this app. If they were smart, they'll release it on the day of the iPhone.

I don't think so, according to their facebook page, they say they are waiting for apple approval. I bet it got rejected but they are trying to make it seem as if the hold up is apple

Their Twitter Comment from yesterday

Said:

"Still waiting for approval.... sorry everyone. It's gotta be this week, right?!"

Some how I won't be holding my breath...

Thanks for the info odelay. That sealed the deal, i'm going to buy mobileoffice.

What are they thinking to not have excel editing?

Exactly my thoughts. It's taken them this long and they're not supporting xls editing? When quickoffice has had the functionality for months now. I thought the reason it was taking so long was that they would release a fully functional app. Oh well. And no indication of iDisk access, which is the most important requirement for me.

Not to mention quickoffice has had their excel only app for a long long time now and has worked out most of its major bugs and improved on it, and i'm sure that's the version of excel in the quickoffice suite. whereas docs to go will no doubt be full of bugs and lacking in functionality as you have shown, and will simply be much further behind the curve

Looks like it's going to be doc editing only. No xls or ppt editing according to this support doc:

http://support.dataviz.com/support.srch?docid=14354&pid=2000

But some sort of Exchange support in an "Documents To Go with Exchange Attachments Edition" of the app:

http://support.dataviz.com/support.srch?docid=14353&pid=2000

Not sure about this any more, without xls editing which is quite key for me.

Wow, unbelievable if it's actually true. What's "DocsToGo with Exchange Attachments Edition" exactly? Does this mean there will be multiple versions of the DocsToGo app similar to the Quickoffice suite?

Well i bought quickoffice, and so far so good. If and when docs to go comes out with a full fledged suite, i.e. word and excel (and even powerpoint) then i'll probably buy it assuming they have worked out their kinks. keep in mind quickoffice has had several months to work out the initial kinks in their app

I have MobileFiles Pro (which I'm refusing to update to Quicksheet) and am still going to wait and see what the DocsToGo app actually contains and whether they say Excel and Powerpoint editing will be included in future updates.
