I use my iPad constantly on portrait mode (so much easier when it comes to reading on iBook) and only on landscape on certain games that require it and whenever I watch a movie/Netflix.

Does anybody here use the iPad in portrait mode at all?

90% portrait... the landscape mode when playing games or using other apps designed to be used on landscape...

How hard was it for them to keep the switch around, or at least maybe convert it into a button? (hold it down for 1s to toggle)

harder than put it to the software and to the control center. an user only needs to tap the lock button =]

I'd not thought about it before, but rotate depending on what I'm doing. Since I thumb type mostly, it's in portrait right now. In the car I have a holder and it's easier to use in landscape. I use gps heavily. I don't know that I have a favorite position. It's in portrait when hanging at MR

Almost always landscape. Portrait use obviously when there is no choice (game or whatever). Only time i choose to use portrait is when I use my iPad as notes for speeches or if i read a book on it.

Always portrait, bar video and games.

Still irks me that all the App icons change position when you rotate, there was a great jailbreak tweak ages ago that made it uniform when you rotated (I no longer bother with jb).

Almost entirely landscape mode for me. I think webpages look a lot better that way.

Almost always portrait. I like to pretend like it is an electronic piece of paper and that just feels more natural.

One of the reasons I switched to the iPad instead of android tablets was because I felt most large android tablets are optimized for landscape. I hate that.

A lot of the time I'm in portrait mode if I'm web browsing on my Rmini but am usually using Mercury browser with the font turned up to 125%.

I use it exclusively in portrait mode, except for a couple games where there is no choice...

Yep, same here, and for movies - landscape of course.

Surfing works so much better in portrait since you fit so much more on the screen. Landscape surfing feels so crippled.

Mostly portrait.

Landscape if I'm typing an email or a Word doc at a table (Smart Cover) or the few odd programs that work best in landscape (Keynote, PowerPoint).

But for web browsing or other reading, which is 50+% of my iPad's duty, it's portrait.

90% of the time it is in portrait mode. The only time I ever really use landscape is when I am using YouTube but even then I still use portrait some of the time.
