My Air 2 is absolutely performing flawless. But I agree, I’m actually holding out to see if we have a spring Keynote that will release an updated iPad with Face ID. But given that the iPad Pros just refreshed in June 2017, at the earliest for an iPad to refresh with Face ID, would not be until this Fall.

Same here, all things considered the iPad Air II has probably been the best Apple product I've ever purchased from a standpoint of longevity. Bought in October of 2014 it's going into Year 4 performing as quickly as it did on Day 1. Pretty amazing.

Still afraid to update to iOS 11, it's great on iOS 10. But the lack of Face ID and the missing X gestures are annoying and I need an iPad that includes them.

Seriously, i forget how to use my partners iPhone 8 and even worse is trying to use my ipad Mini. The X UI and gestures is just superior and more fluid to me then going back to try and use anything with a home button or confusing as hell ipad (initially) dock system. I'm sure it doesn't help i'm using an laggy iPad Mini 3 on iOS 11

Same, not sure why the older models have lag issues. I have a mini 2 or 3 and it works find plenty memory but yes I do notice lag issues.(starting to think all devices do this with age)

The Home button now seems so ... archaic.

Oh really??

Yes, after using the X I just don't like the 8, 7 and SE anymore. The Plus models seem too bulky with not enough screen.

I think I would rather go to a Galaxy s9+ than a non-bezelless iPhone. But not a fan of OLED since every phone I've seen shifts noticeably from yellow to red/pink to blue. I'll take an IPS model thank you very much :)

I like IPS as well and feel it is fine for a phone. The oled is good for watching movies.

I found it the other way around. I had an X for a month and a half while I kept my iPhone 7 around. As time went by I felt more and more that the iPhone 7 worked for me, while the iPhone X made me work for the phone. Things that were easy and natural and fluid on the TouchID phone required extra motions or harder motions on the FaceID phone. I want to make the point that I didn't have any disappointments with the X hardware per se. I think the UI needs a lot of improvement. Hopefully Apple will polish that in iOS 12.

I tried using my wife's iPhone 7 and I kept swiping up and doing gestures and nothing was happening.
And what about the finger smears on my MBA and my iPad? Who's going to keep those clean? Never had a problem before I got my X...

Briefly used gf’s SE today after 3 weeks of iPX. This thing looks very small and dated. Screen was considerably smaller and looked pixelated. Reminded me when i first got the iPhone 4 from a 3GS

I cannot imagine giving up the home button at this point in time, especially on a larger device like the iPad. I have been eyeballing the X again lately. I'm happy with the 8 Plus and chose it because of the home button being there.

I can't imagine it being all better... Using Apple Pay cannot possibly be more convenient with FaceID.

I'm still on the fence here...

I go back and forth between my X and iPad Pro many times a day. No great problem, although I miss the side gesture to move between apps on the iPad when I don’t have the keyboard attached. But they are so different devices, no great problem. The Dock is better on the iPad Pro, so I would hardly wish that the interfaces be unified.

What I now find since iOS 11 is the Mac interface seems dated compared to iOS. I think MacOS could do with a major update bringing across some iOS features (such as screen shot markup).

.

You really have to try it. What's great is you can get it "ready" before your transaction. you also don't have to hold your phone awkardly when the contact terminal is on the side or behind the POS system because you aren't having to hold your finger on touch ID.

When I use the demo iPhone X in an Apple Store or Best Buy it takes a minute or so to not swipe up on my 6 Plus. I've always preferred the home button tho. Easier to use if I'm honest.

This reminds me of people saying the iPhone’s display was ‘horrible’ after using “pro motion” on the iPad Pro. Laughable.

Uh. Cause it is? Going from my iPad Pro woth ProMotion to my iPhone X is quite jarring. Everything is super smooth on the Pro.

You don't have to hold your finger on TouchID while putting the phone on the terminal. Once you authenticate it, you can take your finger off, and it'll stay authenticated for a minute or so.

Back to the opening question: I don't yet own an X, but after just a few minutes of playing with one at the store, my SE's Home button felt old. It didn't immediately feel as last-century as my Blackberry Pearl did (my last non-iPhone before I got a 3G), but it now seems as if it'll drift -- quickly -- into the past. I may stave off the disappearance of the Home button from our gadgets by buying a new iPad this year, and TouchID's last refuge could end up being in a Macbook Pro.

I don’t know about “jarring” but Apple really should consider enabling or having the same set of swiping gestures on all iOS devices.

Even the swip up on the iPad is different than the x.

Apple Pay using faceid adds about 2-3 more steps and that’s IF your face scan passes on the first time.

Using the home button you just pull out your phone out it up to the terminal, wait for it to accept your Apple Pay and you’re done.

Every time I grab another iPhone I open control center until I realize that I have to press the button. lol

Using the home button you just pull out your phone out, double-press Home, (if applicable: select the card you want to use), then rest your finger on TouchID to authenticate, then... [hold] it up to the terminal, wait for it to accept your Apple Pay and you’re done.
Fixed it for you.

Details matter. I'm not speaking from ignorance here; this is the drill I went through while we went shopping yesterday.

I wonder if there’s a change in how the authentication process works or a toggle in settings. When I had a home button all I had to do was have my thumb in the home button and put it up to the terminal. You also had the option of double tapping to switch cards like you said but I had the card I used the most set as the default so I never really used that option.

I go between my iPhone X and my 9.7 inch iPad Pro throughout the day. I definitely prefer the home buttonless interface of the X, but I'm kind of used to them being a bit different now. When I pick up my wife's iPhone 6 I'm struck by several things: It weighs nothing, it looks small to me now, and the home button feels clunky to me (the latter is also true of my iPad). On the weight thing: I don't think of the X as heavy, but it certainly seems heavy compared to the 6. Maybe I'd describe it as reassuringly solid feeling, but that's an odd thing to say about an iPhone with glass front and back.
