And as I said, you cannot keep miniaturizing into infinity. And even if Apple could shrink them down a bit (which they would if they could, at the moment), they would still occupy some space and the notch would still exist.
The only solution, again as I already said, would be to find a way to merge all the sensors into one that fits into a punch hole, or find a reliable way to use under the screen sensors.

Just wishing "improvements" doesn't make the thing go away. So no, what you said has nothing to do with the notch.

Doesn’t the title of this thread ask if Apple knows how to remove it or not? I’m not sure what you are even trying to say. If you are saying that when Apple launched FACEID they launched a product that could not be improved upon in 4 years then you are living in Apple La La Land.

And that’s not the only way. There is under screen technology that could make the notch completely go away. Again, I have zero clue what you are trying to say except “Apple cannot make the notch go away because they don’t know how to” which is fine, because I was asking that question. But saying that it can’t be improved upon in 4 years is completely laughable.

I think the notch is a necessary evil for Apple. It makes them unique. If you take the notch away, it will be hard to identify what's an iPhone...from a marketing standpoint.

That actually makes good sense.

The notch is outdated already. It hasn’t aged well at all. I thought it was outdated the moment it released but it only took a year for hole punch phones and other solutions to come along which made it look instantly dated and now in 2021 the notch looks even more antiquated.

All of this: “The notch makes the iPhone instantly recognisable!” defence is silly when they are eventually going to get rid of it anyway and so it will inevitably look like the rest of the other slabs.

What I think they are going to do is have the hole punch next year and that may last a couple of years until they eventually have the tech to have the sensors under the display as has been rumoured. I see the argument of “they just shrunk the notch this year so they wouldn’t do that!”, what else do they have next year as a selling point? TouchID under the display? Sure, but it is going to take more than that given the disappointment this year. Having the notch for a fifth year running is absurd and I think Apple is aware of that.

You have to be very naive to think that the notch exists purely for brand recognition. It exists because Apple wanted FaceID in their phone while at the same time having a full screen display so they’ve had no other option. The notch has always been a temporary compromise until Apple has figured out a way to implement it so that it is hidden out of the way from disrupting the full display experience.

Have you seen how they advertise it? They rarely show it off and instead choose to show off the back of it for the most part and when they do show off the front they choose dark wallpapers designed in a way that heavily disguises it.

Yes there are other phones that have reduced the obstruction of the display to only a holepunch or a under-display camera entirely, but the former does not allow all of the space for the sensors and the latter results in terrible selfie photos.

Find another phone that even does face unlock on the same level as Apple, I am pretty sure there isn’t one.

What I say simple, you just don't want to understand: FaceID is a combination of 5 different sensors who lives inside de notch. Dude, of course FaceID can be improved. And it did. The v.2 is faster than the v.1 and the iPhone 13 has a smaller notch, which proves that they were able to shrink the components a little bit. And I'm not even sure of that, since the speaker has been moved to the top edge.

If you found a way to shrink them down into one, please be our guest and tell Apple. They didn't yet.
If you think that all 5 sensors could be "improved" do fit under the screen, you are the one living in Teletubbies La La Land.
If you think Apple can get rid of all those sensors, ok fair enough, but then it would not be FaceID, it would be a Samsungish crappy facial recognition system who unlocks even with the drawings of a 6 years old little girl.

Stop talking about under the screen technology. No manufacturer has come up yet with a GOOD QUALITY camera working under the screen. If nobody can currently come up with a good under the screen camera, how could someone develop that for FIVE SENSORS ? Why would Apple? The technology isn't just there yet. It will be nice when it will come, but until then it's just wishful thinking.

And yet, in your previous post you talk about Apple going punch hole next year. A non sense, since FaceID doesn't work by magic.

The notch is a complete non issue to most normal users. I’ve literally never heard it even mentioned outside of this forum and Reddit. Nearly everyone I know uses an iPhone and I’ve literally never heard the notch mentioned either in a negative or positive context, it’s just a complete non issue.

Precisely. It seems to be just one of those things folks on forums like to latch onto to have something to complain about (another example is the bezel color on the new iMacs). If they get rid of the notch, they'll move on to something else to nitpick about.

And the notch is definitely not "very large" as one poster said near the beginning of the thread. LOL! Honestly, especially with dark mode on, I can't even see it most of the time even if I look for it.

I’m not sure why you are getting so bent over this. I was simply asking a question. I’m sorry it upsets you discussing the notch.
