On MR, the smallest things often turn into a tech crisis for many here. I hate to see the rest of their chaotic life.

This.

There is no controversy. None. Zero. Zip.

There is an infinitesimal, not even a rounding error, number of delusional keyboard warriors, infantilised through years of too much internet/media that believe their opinion is disproportionally significant and impactful on Apples bottom line and future hardware/software.

And in other news, I’m kinda disappointed with iPadOS15, I will continue to use my unbent 2018 12.9” for a while longer, harboring a little envy of the mini LED screen, and life will go on.

It’s more due to lack of iOS 15 features and the issues with blooming and screen defects which I had is what made me return mine and get the 11 inch

Same OS features on the 11”

Difference is the 11 inch is £200 cheaper, more portable and doesn’t have any such issues with the display. 12.9 with the models with 16GB of ram were seen as the true laptop replacement due to the bigger display but those features didn’t really come and the multitasking doesn’t really add anything more on the 12.9 aside from the obvious of bigger screen

No issues here, new 11” display is same as 2018 11” i replaced. iOS 15 will change multitasking for the 12.9. no iPad is a laptop replacement if you need Mac OS, i don’t.
If you need storage you would get the 1TB/2, wouldn’t really matter how much ram it has, people buy 8/1TB MB Air.
You got a dud.

I did get a dud yes and it had a serious screen defect. The blooming issues do exist but not a deal breaker for most. For some the iPad can replace a computer but with the lack of multitasking features the mac will remain the best option if that’s important to a user

Indeed, I would have kept the 12.9 hit the display defect forced my hand really. Still I think I will enjoy the portability of the 11 inch
I'm in the same boat. Got my 12,9" but the blooming in lowlight-scenarios (in bed at night mostly) was too much for me. + I felt I ONLY had it with the Magic Keyboard and never without it, so it did not feel like a tablet. I'm on the fence of getting the 11" with Magic Keyboard now instead so I can use it as both a tablet and a "laptop".

Multitasking is hardly any different on a Mac if comparing 13” v 13”, sure against a 27” imac, which i have had for 5.5 years.

Actually the 12.9” iPad is better for multitasking than the M1 air i had too.

11“ is horrible with the MGK, tried it with my 2018 11” and returned, not worth buying unless you have the 12.9.

I can't really say youre either right or wrong here, i've only tried it instore so far, for about 20 minutes of typing. I agree that it takes some getting used to because of the smaller formfactor. But horrible might be a bit of a stretch?

To the OP - not usually, and, the controversy is very focused to MR / youtubers i.e. anecdotally, no one I know has even mentioned A. There is even a new IPP out B. new iPadOS to be released (and I work in Tech).

I am not implying people's opinions/concerns on here are not valid (as I agree with some) it's just people outside of forums tend to take the iPad for what it can do not what it (most certainly) should do. I get asked "what would be the best device to do x y z?" and I will reply with which ever device is best placed.. I never get asked "what device will do x y z in 3 months time? or the IPP has an M1 cpu, 16gb of RAM and a geekbench score of 7k - what does that do the others don't?"

multitasking is certainly better by a mile on the mac. You can open as many windows as you wish on the mac. The iPad you are restricted to two apps and one slide over.

The new multitasking on the iPad is certainly an improvement just not as good as I had hoped. Better is better but still they could have done more

Multitasking is the same no matter what mac you have. It’s still better than what the iPad currently has and will be the case unless windows will be available on the iPad

Well, it’s cramped and you hit the bottom of the iPad when using the top row of keys, so yeah that’s horrible IMO.

All the streaming apps here have pop up windows, better than Mac OS and have to use safari in split screen.

You can still only use spilt screen side by side with two apps. You can have as many pop up windows on the mac.

iPad does not have the multitasking the mac has that’s the issue. Apple should have added at least 3 apps at once option

Only useful on a 27” iMac though not a 13” Mac. Multitasking is more useful IMO on big iPad.
