not exactly, When I raise it and look at it, I want it to recognise my face and then pass me directly to the home screen, I don't use notifications, so there is no need to show me a screen that says "there are no notifications".

I less swipe

Yes, I'm crossing fingers they add an option to go straight to the home screen. I sometimes forget to swipe my finger.

I just bought one too. I have realised you don’t need to wait for the phone to unlock before swiping up. Just pick up the phone and immediately swipe up. The phone immediately unlocks to the home screen. If you do it this way, it behaves in a similar way to pressing the button with a finger print reader.

The option would be nice but I doubt I would use it. I look at my phone alot to check notifications would be annoying if it unlocked everytime I just glanced at it.

Whne I first got the phone I was sure I wanted this feature but the more I have it the less I think I would want it.

Apple could do this easily by implementing a “raise eyebrows for home screen” feature.
  • Look at the phone to unlock as it currently does.
  • Raise eyebrows to effectively swipe up, landing you at the home screen.

In fact, i’m going to email Tim Cook and Craig now to suggest it! :apple:

There is no such setting to do what you describe at this time. You always have to swipe up to go to the home screen after unlocking with Face ID.

Actually, I think I found a "bug" that allows direct access to the home screen via faceID without swiping up. Sometimes when I receive a notification, if I pick up the phone immediately upon receiving the notification, and pick up the phone a certain way, grabbing it with my thumb (on the left side) and forefinger (on the right side) towards the bottom, it will sometimes authenticate via faceID and go to the home screen without me swiping up. Somehow I think it is reading my palm (or the sides of my fingers/palm) as a swipe up somehow. But all I am doing is grasping the phone and turning it upwards towards me, I am not sliding my finger, nor is my palm or anything else sliding up the screen.

I have found it difficult to reproduce, but it has happened numerous times.

Don’t forget to include some clips of Roger Moore’s finest screen moments for reference ;)

Should be buried in Accessibility (‘cause it’s risky and because notifications) but it should be there.
Maybe they’re saving it for a major iOS redesign we’ll see in a year or two.
[doublepost=1510646810][/doublepost]Also in accessibility they could add “blink to unlock”.
YEA! Two quick blinks to unlock. Three quick blinks to dial 911.

I found this thread trying to determine If/when Apple releases an option to go straight to the home-screen. Which I'll probably turn on...Notifications be damned! (Plus I can always go to Notifications from swiping down once I'm in.)

But in the meantime thank you for the tip that you can swipe up even before FaceID processes! It works really smoothly. And remember that even with the old "go immediately to home screen" option you still [obviously] had to press the home button to register your fingerprint...This is essentially the same process flow as that.

One eye open: Lock screen (for notifications)
Both eyes open: Home screen

...this feature could be the solution to all your problems. Who's gonna email Tim?
And don't forget, you heard it here first ;):p

In that concept lets consider fingers in left/right nostril because some people shave their eyebrows.

Honestly that notification screen is just a nuisance; my impression however is that Apple under-estimated the amount of re-engineering they had to do for Face-ID and hence iPhone X users have the short end of the stick.

We see this also in other parts of iOS when - for example - to do payments you suddenly need to enter the iCloud password and not show your face. Or the Notification screen that has a swipe right for Camera and a Camera button, come on !! And then there is the flashlight, switch it on in notification and go to home screen and then - quite literally - you need to log-out/log-in to switch it off (or I missed something).

And the truth is my iPhone X unfortunately was killed (its having friendly conversations with fish) and all of this leads me to replace it with an iPhone 8 and wait for the improved iPhone XI or something else.

Flashlight on in notifications, go to home screen, then to turn off again swipe top right down into control centre and hit the flashlight icon.

Have you ever heard of poker face? A few years of unlocking your phone by raising your eyebrows will have people looking permanently shocked with forehead wrinkles!

Hahaha I can see it now if Apple were to implement this. "My iPhone has given me a wrinkled forehead!" Class action suit in 3... 2... 1...

Maybe that's why Tim and Craig never replied to my mail :D

Surething, you must be correct.

My cynical comment for Apple; I don't expect to need a manual to do these basic things...

What's silly is that if you look at the phone and say, "Hey Siri, load camera" the phone will open directly to the camera, and you can take a picture with a side button and never touch the screen (or open whatever app for which you asked).

But, if you pick up the phone and say "Hey Siri, open home screen", Siri will speak, "Just swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get home".

WHY CAN SIRI OPEN ANY APP EXCEPT THE HOME SCREEN?

Just got my iPhone X, and have been using Face ID.

I thought that there was a setting which allowed for the iPhone to unlock straight to the Home Screen once Face ID unlocked your iPhone (rather than having to swipe to open).

Is that correct? Or did I mis-remember that feature?
They really should.

I suspect this and many other features are destined for the X, eventually. I think part of the delay is to ease customers into the new paradigm. The same goes for the home bar. It’s there for now but once all iphones utilize it, chances are it will be removed. Making an option now though wouldn’t be a big deal, particularly if it was hidden away in accessibility or something.

Would this be good for you?

I remember with TouchID, it got so fast that it was easy to blow past your notifications so Apple made a 10.XXX update to remedy that.

I thought the same thing as you...it'd be nice to right to your home screen upon a FaceID, but then you'd miss your notifications that you missed since opening your phone last time, causing you to have to swipe down to view them or check each app individually for the alert.

For people who don’t care about notifications it would be nice to have the option to unlock straight to the homescreen. Users are allowed to deactivate notifications after all, so why then force them to stare at an “empty” screen?

Myself I use notifications a lot, but sometimes there are no new notifications since the last time I picked up my phone.

Having the phone unlock to an empty notifications screen rather than the home screen makes no sense to me, personally.

So I’d very much like to see an option to either: always unlock to home screen or always to notifications screen (like now, and I don’t mind this being the preselected option), OR always to home screen when there are no new notifications (which would be my personal preference).

Also, I’d gladly see hands-free ways to dismiss the unlocked notifications screen and go to the home screen, through some face/head gestures, sure, but also through Siri.

Hell, I’d settle for Siri only (no gestures), if Apple made Siri a background/non-intrusive option that doesn’t take over my screen only to hang around waiting to be dismissed, as is so often the case (like when setting Home scenes).

Options are always good. Personally, I like reaching out and tapping the screen to see no notifications. Means I can carry on with what I'm doing.

azz0r writes, "So now we have the phone and latest iOS does anyone know if theres anyway todo this? I'm disappointed, I don't want to physically touch it if I'm unlocking with my face...it makes no sense."

As pointed out by phpmaven in post #2 if it opened straight to your home screen you wouldn't see your notifications or alerts. So it does make sense, although I'll admit it would be nice for the phone owner to have the option of bypassing their notifications and alerts and going straight to their home screen. Different strokes for different folks.

I know Apple seems against it, but I like OPTIONS.

We all use our phones differently and configuration shouldn't be judged, it should be standard.
