Well, I finally got my MBP (or as I like to call it "bunnybook") ordered this morning. It was kind of a pain to order actually because the bank decided they would decline authorization. So after calling and telling them yes, I really did want to spend my money, I got it ordered. Now all I can do is pace back and forth in anticipation...haha. Let's hope it doesn't take all of the estimated 2 weeks to get to me. ;)

I have a feeling it'll be a hair faster than my G3 800MHz iBook. :D

It's kind of funny that the Photoshop will perform better on the MBP (under Rosetta) than it does on my current machine.

Do you want to sell your G3? I would be interested at a fair price.

Congrats on the awesome new Mac mmmcheese! :)

Bad News:
It will probably take the estimated 2 weeks to be shipped and delivered to you.

Good News:
Your new MacBook Pro will be insanely fast and drop dead gorgeous! :) Your 800MHz iBook G3 will run like molasses compared to your MacBook Pro.

My sister is getting my old machine once my new one comes...otherwise I would have considered offers.

Lmao, topic made me laugh!

Grats. I hate the way banks are being so tight over our own money these days. I understand that they need to protect ours and their money from fraudsters, but when it starts stopping us from spending our own money it's just insane.

It runs like molasses now...I don't need a new machine to tell me that. ;)

Ever since putting Tiger on it, it's been a little....how shall I say it....pokey. That and I've outgrown it too. It also doesn't help that a lot of times I use a 21" monitor with it too with the screen spanning mode. 16MB per screen is not enough for hardware acceleration of the GUI, and it definitely slows things down.

Ha, well then I guess that you will notice the speed improvement even more than. :)

Very true, more RAM and a faster GPU are needed for this task for your iBook to run better.

I can certainly relate. I was most surprised when the Fedex guy showed up with my shiny new MBP on my door at 8:30 this morning, two days ahead of schedule! I ordered it exactly a week ago around midnight, built to order, and my girlfriend derived much enjoyment laughing at me as I watched it make its way from Shanghai to Paris to Memphis to Birmingham to here thanks to Fedex's tracking. I'm still getting it all sorted what with the files and whatnot and having to relearn how to type on this tiny keyboard. Just be patient and enjoy when it arrives.

DMw007, you're right. It is sexy.

I'm having it shipped to my grad supervisor's office at school because I just know that my landlords would decide to not sign for it if it showed up...then I'd be running all over hell's half acre trying to track it down...haha

Oh, terribly sorry to impune your greedy capitalist reputation mmmcheese. ;) :D

Just kidding! :)

Damn straight!

Actually, she's getting a good deal (at least compared to what people are paying on eBay for the same machine). It'll be perfect for her; email, web surfing, word, wireless. I've definitely grown out of it though, so the new machine will be a nice change.

Well thats nice of you to cut her a break. I did not think that you were really a cold-hearted, cut-throat sibling mmmcheese. ;) :)

A small cost to pay for not having to support another Windows machine. ;)

Good point! :)

She's going back to school (so not going to be using my parents' Windows machine anymore), so she would have been buying something anyway. Good time to switch a user! :D

That said, the Windows machine I built for my parents has been awesomely stable. The machine is over 4 years old, and I have never done a thing to it (including reinstalling Windows). Once they had to take it in to get the CPU fan replaced, but I don't even count that since fans break on anything. Their next machine will be a mac though...whether they like it or not...haha

Ha, good plan mmmcheese (even if a little diabolical ;) :D ).

Well, they don't have any PC specific tasks anymore, so it really wouldn't matter as long as I told them what you get....although the damn laser printer is parallel port only...that could cause a problem. I suppose I could use their old PC as a print server. As long as that's its only purpose, it should never need any real maintenance.

Congrats on your new Mac. I recently upgraded from an iBook G3 800 mhz to a Powerbook G4 1.5 ghz. What a huge difference!
(All of the sudden I'm hankerin' for a hunka cheese!)

Yeah, I think I got a lot of use out of my old iBook...it's definitely time for an upgrade.

Hankerin' huh? I thought I was the only one who used that word! haha.

Sounds like the right time to convince/force them to switch! :)

I keep asking how things are going with it...no one has any complaints...so I guess it's not time yet. I do expect they will need a new monitor in the next year or so, so I think I will suggest an iMac. Like I said, the only real problem will be the printer...which is very nice, and still works well...except it is parallel port only. I guess I'll jump that hurdle when I get to it.

An iMac sounds like it would work very nicely for them. Although, it may be time to buy a new non-parallel port printer (you might be able to find an adapter to use though).
