Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast.

I noticed the slow down before I got my 15 Pro with the 120Hz screen, so take that with a pinch of salt.Hi. Oh, at first, I was sceptical about your post, and I had a look to my wife's 13 mini. And sadly, I must admit it's not smooth at all. I don't remember seeing this on ios16. The screen animation are laggy. Usable for sure, but not smooth. She doesn't complain because she's not a techie girl at all, but this bothering me.If it was mine, I think I would try to reset it.
EDIT: I think it's because I'm conditioned by the better refresh rate of the 14 pro, so take what I wrote with a pinch of salt...
Dude brings up the iphone 4 as "proof" that apple slows phones down. You do realise that was early in the smartphone era, right? Like, we've hit a point where phones can be updated much more and still retain good performance. Not really the own you think it is.
Maybe the EU will make a law saying that smartphone users must have the ability to downgrade their firmware, especially since the makers of the software have a tendency to add features/bloat that will slow the users device down to unsatisfactory levels. When it's impossible to downgrade the software, the user is stuck with an experience that they didn't expect and there's no way to fix it other than buy a new phone.I have noticed a slight slowdown in both my 13 Mini and iPad Mini 5. Not particularly happy about it, especially since software cannot be reverted in iOS. Both have been running 17 for a couple weeks, so it’s not an indexing issue.
Over the years, I have become convinced that Apple isn’t purposely slowing anything down, they just stop optimizing the OS for older devices. It’s kind of an indirect method of getting what they want, which is for all of us to upgrade to the latest and greatest. If they really had our best interests in mind, reverting of the software would be possible, as it is on MacOS. Apple got away with not allowing this on iOS because they did it from the beginning, and we all bought in as we were excited about new products (iPhone and iPad).
We can and should be able to install any OS we want. It’s kind of jacked up that we can’t.
The simple truth is the iPhone 4 never should have gotten iOS 7. It had a single core CPU, not enough RAM, etc... It ran iOS 6 like a dream but iOS 7 just demanded too many system resources. I never upgraded my 4 to iOS 7, I remember getting my 5 before we got to iOS 7 and after hearing how lousy the 4 runs it I told the person I sold it to (for cheap) that they shouldn't upgrade to iOS 7 because it will slow down the device. I saved them a world of hurt!Dude brings up the iphone 4 as "proof" that apple slows phones down. You do realise that was early in the smartphone era, right? DON'T update your iPhone 13 mini to iOS 17!
Or stated differently:
DO update your iPhone 13 mini to iOS 17!
I think that effectively summarizes this thread, amiright?

Keyboard lag has always been the prelude to more severe degradation. Typically the first issue that arises is keyboard lag, which then worsens alongside everything else.I’ve been using the iPhone 13 mini with iOS 17 for a while now (+ I have the 512 GB model, so it has more RAM) and it has most likely stopped indexing by now.
Well, let me tell you that it is horrible. I use Word and Notes a lot, and the keyboard just lags so much that it’s hard to take this device or iOS 17 seriously.
It may be cool for people who live with their parents and want to have all kinds of bubbly special effects when using the phone, but it’s nothing for the adult world where people work, lead businesses, have meetings and make money.
I don’t even type fast, but the keyboard just lags behind a lot. That’s been the typical weak spot for all iPhones, since the beginning.
I have Apple Care+ so I wonder what they’re going to do about this. This is obviously a child’s toy for watching funny YouTube clips and nothing more than that. It’s not a tool for serious work.
The problem: I was looking for a tool, not a toy!
Wow, I actually did the same. After updating my 13 mini to 17.1 I swapped SIMs with my old Gen 1 SE running 15. As I said in another thread, just another bug ridden release by Apple.I bought a brand new iPhone 13 mini. It had iOS 15 on it, but I decided to update to iOS 17.
Basically, I ruined the phone. Lol, I just upgraded from a first generation iPhone SE (that's the one from 2016!), but this iPhone 13 mini is slow and laggy as hell now. My 2016 iPhone SE is completely smooth on iOS 15.
Very, very disappointed. This is absolutely ridiculous. Apple is doing this on purpose I think!
Over time you probably wouldn't notice the gradual slow down, but when you go back and use something that has 15 on it, it's quite jarring how much better it is.Wow, I actually did the same. If you do a fresh install of Windows 98 and browse the circa 2000 internet with static html and no javascript it's really fast too. That doesn't mean that Microsoft is intentionally slowing PCs with each OS update.Over time you probably wouldn't notice the gradual slow down, but when you go back and use something that has 15 on it, it's quite jarring how much better it is.
