I don't really understand the above position - or the attitude of this original thread. I've used Nikon's and Hassleblads for years - and during the process of wet to dry in photography - many of the tried and true photographic steadies - like Nikon etc were really caught napping I feel and fell way behind digital development.

I think companies like Canon, Fuji (to a lesser extent Sony) took up the slack, and I feel have really contributed to digital development.

HckySo: I don't understand how you can blame a company for an operators lack of (assumed) expertise. I know when I was first starting out doing weddings ... I would get overexposed shots using my twin rollei-flex and ext flash - when relatives taking their own pictures behind me with albeit dinky flashes would really affect my light meter reading calculations.

Any model of camera can be a 'lemon' - some brands are better than others - sure - but I think it's perhaps more insightful of ppl's biases here about company loyalty or disloyalty that is really telling - and signifies that something else is really the issue maybe.

Do us a favor and just stop posting.

Kwajo, that camera is hot! I've never owned a Pentax digital, but I had a great 35mm SLR back in the day. I loved that camera. A cousin has it now because she was taking a photography class in high school.

But, 30 megapixels?! That's crazy!

A cruel irony that you posted those pics yesterday and your own baby was stolen last night. But now you have a reason to get that new Pentax! ;)

I recently went to a family wedding and it was odd because I was at a wedding but not working for the photographer. This Canon lady made sure that no one had a flash on and no one was leaning in the lane. The lady was a pretty good photo journalist during the wedding but she hired two other guys to take photos and it felt like a photo shoot, and since she hired two other guys she left half way through the reception because she was probably paying her photographers by the hour, which is okay, she's entitled to her package and they have a wedding booked tomorrow. It almost seemed like they just bought five Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II's and called themselves wedding photographers just because they're PPA certified. There wasn't anything magical with their shoots either, oh well.

I hate to tell you but that is typical of wedding photographers. They laugh at the people taking photos with their disposable cameras and they sometimes make snide remarks about the bride and groom. It has nothing to do with having a Canon camera, though Canon owners tend to be snooty in their own right.

I'm glad I'm the exception to everything above!

Me too! : )

Yes, and you too. :D

If I was willing to photograph a wedding and deal with all the screaming people, I'd probably be upset, so I don't even want to be involved. My last involvement in a wedding was as the pianist and I don't want to do that again, either. :D

hey, come on now, I saved this thread entirely. it lives a healthy life now :p

It's true - the Pentax medium format item was a good redirect.

Mike, I think B.'s comment about Canon owners is in jest. Although I have noticed that folks seem a little conceited when around a Canon office copier. Now Mac owners, well no help for us. Quite snooty, I'm afraid. :)

This thread is headed to Wasteland and the guy doing all these spammy posts in various threads is probably cruising for a bruise.

Guess you are wrong so far Connie.

Shame of it is he seems to be a Leica guy, and I assume that he has made similar posts (or maybe a twin of his) on the Leica forum run by Leica itself.

On that forum Sean Reid (http://www.reidreviews.com/reidreviews/), a respected reviewer gave this reply about his view about the new Leica M8 being the digital equivalent to the "Texas Leica" (aka the Fuji 6x7 and 6x9 RF's):

1) I don't go by MP math per se, I go by my eyeballs. Right now, there are four cameras (135mm form factor) that create quality that reminds me of medium format film: Canon 1Ds, Canon 1DsMkII, Canon 5D, Leica DMR. So there are four reference points to consider. Michael Reichman concurs with me, I believe, on the first three and has not tested the fourth. There's more to file quality than math, of course.

Note that for the MF "feel" in images, Canon seems to lead the pack.

I have been wrestling about giving new life to my Leica M6TTL with the introduction of the new M8. My M6 sees little use since going digital, but that kit is so nice; I have have kept for now.More on that in another thread. :)

I will say that in my desire to make the right choice on the M8, I have looked deeply at some of the sample pics on DPR for the D200 and D80. With a particular eye towards the 1600 and 3200 ISO. Did look at similar images from Canon on DPR, and on the screen there appeared to be little difference between brands, if you look past sensor size.

I plan on taking the sample images from DPR and making some 13x19 prints (both native and using a noise reduction program) from the D80 and the D200.

I am wrestling with the thought of an M6TTL kit that is not seeing much use, and some great glass that I have gotten for my new Nikon kit - and perhaps to have the best of all worlds. A Leica digital/film kit, and a Nikon kit for when an SLR is the best option.

yeah I typo - and I also left out the apostrophe - I make typos all over the place in conversational forums - it's a discussion...

and along with chip novamac - not sure if this is some type of 'humour' or just self righteousness - but it isn't conducive to positive community participation I feel

Just be happy you are not a copywriter for advertising.

I did the ads for the company I work for now. In one ad I fumbled on the 1-800 number. I placed the wrong last four digits of our 800 number with one our stores last four digits.

As luck would have it, there was one company that matched my miss print in our local ad in a local newspaper. That company received calls three months after the ad date! In the end they were cool about it, and we took care of them for their time, trouble, and cost.

Chip novamac - yeah... I'm glad I'm not an editor or copywriter - it's so easy to overlook things - I always get an editor to edit my work - it's a specialised skill. I know it's annoying reading typos and spelling errors, but if I were marking a paper I would have a different mindset than reading a forum - that's really the essence of what I'm saying.

Pointing such things out just doesn't add value to the 'community spirit' here I feel. Some ppl have varying skills, and I wish that wasn't a barrier to participation in something as relatively benign as a discussion on Canon.

Not sure what is really behind such comments - but generally it isn't a positive thing to try to put someone down for an error - so that others can feel better.

All you people have to be kidding me...This is like racial profiling based on cameras instead of race. Like the comment regarding Canon owners and the wedding photographers. This thread is going downhill fast.

Oh and ps. That 30d and L lens just got me hard.
