Actually I'd go further, the 70-200/2.8 balances nicely on your left palm IF a D300 or similar weight body is mounted, lighter-weight bodies would tip the balance into quite a nose-heavy configuration which may be more tiring to hold...

We were just mucking about in the office. I'd never shoot a 600 mm prime without a monopod or tripod personally. Maybe I should workout more!
And yes the 70-200 mm f 2.8 balances nicely with my D750.
