Looks great. What's with the towel underneath?

Bring up System Preferences->Displays and select the Arrangement tab (this is only available on the main screen). By default the main computer screen will have the menu bar shown and will be on the left of the 2 displays. If the added display is actually on the other side, click and drag the displays to match the actual arrangement. You can also click and drag the menu bar to whichever display you want it on.How do you make the added screen your man display with the dock on it?

I wiped down the desk prior, and set the towel down to avoid any water sitting underneath. I will remove it soon, reorganize the desk, so it will look better an give me more space. The desk is from the early 1900's, hahaLooks great. What's with the towel underneath?

Once you attach a second monitor, go into System Preferences > Displays and click the Arrangement tab. That gives you a graphical representation of your monitors in the form of two blue boxes, one of which has a white bar at the top. Drag that white bar to the other blue box and the display it represents becomes the "main" monitor.

Ok Now im confused
So if i but a 20" ACD can i just hook it up via a Mini DVI - DVI, or do i have to buy the big expensive adapter? (DVI - ACD)
By default they iMacs and iBooks only supported mirroring, although the capabilityw as really there and just disabled. There is a patch that you can get that will enable this, but I don't remember what it is called; just do a Google search for "iBook extended display" or something like that.I recently purchased an used iSight G5 with an ATI Radeon X600- XT video card. I also purchased and installed the mini vga to vga adapter to a 16" Apple Video Display monitor.
According to Apple, if an option listed as "arrangement" is absent from the display preferences screen, I cannot change a listing called "mirror" which appears in my profile preferences. They also stated that when an external display is attached to the host machine, that the option "arrangement" should appear in the display preferences section. My Mac doesn't show the "arrangement" option which means that the two monitors will mirror each other.
Is there a way to "extend" my desktop across the 2 displays, so that they are no longer in "mirror" mode and will display different views in each?
Thanks for your help.

Hi all;
A managed a REALLY good deal on another 24" iMac. Can I use it as a dual monitor to my current 24" iMac?
Cheers!
- Dan
is there a limit on the size of external monitor my early intel imac can support?
There's a resolution limit; every iMac (and Mac Mini) up until the ones just released in early 2009 are limited to an external resolution of 1920x1200, I believe it is -- which is most commonly found in 24" monitors, but some 27" monitors use that resolution as well.
That is your opinion, and you are welcome to it. For those of us that have less than stellar eyesight the larger pixel can be a godsend at times.17-19": 1440x900
20-23": 1680x1050
24-29": 1920x1200
30": 2650x1600
Tip: It is a waste of money to buy anything but the smallest size per resolution. Only buy 17", 20", or 24" displays.
So here's my deal....
I have an iMac with a mini dvi out.
I was generously given a Dell E177FP (thanks mom).
I don't have a Mini DVI to VGA cable. By a weird coincidence, I have a Mini DVI to HDMI cable. Which I can run to a couple converters I also have on hand. Everythings connected, and I've checked my system settings, But no dice. Maybe is there too much converting going on? Because it's not working.
I use a Mini DVI to HDMI to run a signal to my Plasma screen tv all the time. (Works great. I stream Farscape episodes from Netflix! Good times.)
Here's the rundown of what's happening. Mini-dvi out > HDMI > DVI > VGA > 2nd monitor black screen. I can tell that when I move my mouse that it's going off into the distance as though a 2nd monitor is there. I also know that the monitor works, because when I turn it on, I get the "saving power" message, as though there's no computer hooked up to it.
So there you have it.
Thoughts?
