Sorry, but that combination will not work in this situation. The Mini DVI connector has an analog signal pin that is used by the Mini DVI to VGA adapter, but by adding the Mini DVI to HDMI adapter you are not feeding this signal through, since it is not needed for HDMI. I am afraid you will have to get the correct Mini DVI to VGA adapter or cable, as this is the only way that this will work.

You're quite welcome. Sorry it didn't work that way, but you should be able to find a miniDVI to VGA adapter pretty cheap at any of several places online.

I've got my 27" iMac setup with a 23" ACD on the left and a MBP on the right. The application "Teleport" permits me to move my mouse from the iMac to the laptop and back seamlessly. This way i can run skype and internet browser on the laptop and have the 2 other screens to work.
