I worked with a senior advisor who talked to Apple engineers they told me the lens can’t be cleaned I will need a replacement for all you people with this issue just ask for a replacement.

Re-read that email response from that Apple member, it doesn’t state _anything_ about the camera lens cover, it states they can’t clean the ‘camera’ Is a not modular area’. Those are two different things. Also, they can clean behind camera lens cover area in store, plenty of others have already attested to this. You don’t understand the content of your Own E-mail.

But my dust is not in the objective/lens, is between the lens and the glass. And this can be cleaned unmounting several pieces in the iPhone, extracting camera module in full and cleaning the glass that stays in the chasis, the ine that protect the lenses, where the dust is
Simply ask for a replacement why risk it repairing

Replacement is more quicker than risking the phone

So I took my phone in and waited for them to either remove the dust or replace the camera which they had ordered. AFter 1.5 hours they returned the phone "all fixed" However when I aimed the camera at a light wall the dust was still there. The attendant (not the tech) was so surprised.... he obviously had not done a quality check. So he went off and returned with a new phone- which I did not want, nor did I have the time to deal with it. So he made another appointment for me to get the camera replaced... very disappointed with the service and quality check

Instead of just taking the new device??

I agree that should not happen and they should double check their work to ensure it was cleaned properly. But if it was me, I likely would have taken the new device if they had offered it, but I can understand why you may wanted to retain your original device as well.

Just wanted to be out of there instead of having to the spend another half hour dealing with data transfer - mostly disappointed that they said they had “fixed” the problem...

Yeah, time is valuable as well.
What was the end result?

Just to update you all. A lot of my large family have all changed to iPhone X’s recently. Almost all of them have some dust in the back (and some in the front) cameras. I would wager that at least 90% of iPhone X’s have some dust in them. However, some are worse than others and have large bits that can be seen in photos. Most do not,

Given the amount of units ive seen with this issue I wouldn’t spend my time worrying about it.

Good post. Its The nature of mass produced tech in a factory. It’s going to have likely some dust one way or another, its just a matter if somebody is actually looking for the dust or not. If it actually affects the photos because of the dust obstructing the camera lens, then that obviously is a concern and should be replaced. But for those who have perfectly good working cameras on their iPhone and they are looking for dust regardless, those of the ones are creating issues for themselves.

I had dust in the rear cameras, and front camera, so in the 3 cameras, actually. Iphone X from November, dust appeared 6 weeks ago.

I went to an Apple Store, they said they will replace the rear camera AND the screen, as maybe the screen not being properly constructed affects in some way dust entry in the iPhone.

So tomorrow I am expecting to get a new screen, front camera cleaned and back camera new, properly sealed to the external glass.

Hope I don't regret this. I asked them if they have a proper room "dust free" to do this, and they said yes, but I don't trust that 100%....

Maybe they take it into the employee bathroom and run all the water on hot to tamp down the dust. :D

Regardless, At least they are addressing the issue(s) for you. There is a reason there customer service is respectable and they stand behind their products. Some manufacturers may not provide you the same consistency as Apple would.

I tell you when I get it back, if it is really clean

So I went to the Apple Store and to my surprise, they didn´t fix my phone, they gave me some excuses it was not doable to clean it, that maybe it was a problem with the frame, etc.

They gave me a refurbished iPhone X. I inspected it. I took the plastic protection and there was dust on top of the lenses, already pretty weird. I inspected inside and saw dust... 1 particle in each lense, but frontal camera ok.

I told them about it, they saw the dust and after a bit of "chatting", they gave me a second refurbished iphone. Same problem, dust inside, even more than the first refurbished one.

I ended going home with the first refurbished phone, unhappy, after being treated not nicely. I really think Apple doesn't know how to create a properly sealed duo-camera module. Point. For any reason, dust is getting trapped in the factories between camera module and glass. And this doesn't even explain how I had in my initial iPHone X dust in the real camera, inside!

My other iPhone 8 with one lens is pristine, nothing in, same with iphone 6S, 6, 5, 4 and even first iPhone gen 1.

I think the iPhone X has some kind of sealing/design issue. I am pretty sure in some months I will see more dust inside. Hope I am wrong.

I think it is not a "sealing/design issue" because (IP67 (?) etc. should seal the phone very well - better than the 6,5 and 4. In the most cases i think it is a production issue. No clean production area/air.

But sad Story whit your X. Do you see the dust on Pictures?

No, but we will see if dust affect videos with sun in them, making flares. Even with no affect, I don't accept paying 1200 euros for a PREMIUM phone, that has dust inside that cheaper iPhone don't have.

I think all the iPhones are technically premium, but I agree that they should be free of having not to deal with defects, but as I mentioned before in another thread, their customer service will stand behind the product.

I'm curious... do you own a car?

What do you do when it gets a scratch/dent/chip in it from a rock that flew out from some unknown person's car 100 ft in front of you?

Report him
Serious question.

5 phones returned? Wow!

I did 6-7

If you do own a car did you spend 3 days going over it with a magnifying glass like you do your phones?

No only phones

P.S.

Don't think I'm saying you don't have a right to be picky... it is a lot of money. All I'm saying is if you look hard enough you can probably find a flaw in each and every iPhone shipped.

Oh wait, did you find one that makes you happy?

Never

You obviously didn't look hard enough. There's a speck there somewhere. Find it.
