Literally broken.

This sends “reduce, re-use, recycle” to a whole different level — just not to a level we need to find ourselves. It’s a complete carbon footprint reduction disconnect from the notion of bringing it to a proper, local disposal/recycling facility (equipped to manage broken electronics at scale) because… monetizing? OK.

I’d almost bookmark the listing to watch whether it actually sells one day. I seriously doubt it. Or, maybe send a link of the listing over to polka-dot man to nudge him into making “art” out of it, to sell for $199.99.

Also broken…

It would've helped if they'd specified what the fault is so that you're aware in advance of what you'll need to tackle. A quick glance at the photos suggests that the display might need replacing. They ship to the UK so that's definitely an incentive for me to make an offer.

Lol, I mean it is a nice machine indeed but for almost 4000 $ I'd rather buy something like a couple of Mac Pros 5,1 😅 I've noticed that iMac G4s have come down in price lately (at least in Europe it seems), for my "Iconic 2003 iMac G4" (17" model) I paid exactly 100€ in 2021 so yeah I don't really see anyone buying one for nearly four grand (even if it is the 20" model) ...

“Iconic”, for a 2003 iMac G4, is stretching it long and thin like salt taffy.

... And then came the moment when I realized there are now “adults” in the world who were born after this “icon” was manufactured 🤦‍♂️

Now, now… no one gets to choose when their egg and baby batter got put in the mixer stand…

In most recent years — 2018, 2019 — I’ve felt this realization when connecting, respectively, the dots that new adults weren’t alive in the 1900s and were born after buildings collapsed in the U.S. Even more recently, I may be soon teaching a kid in my community the skill of film photography who is, frankly, the same exact age as the MBP4,1 I’m using to reply to you.

I think the first time I felt a similar realization was in December 1989, at the music retailer for whom I was working at the time, when a kid, maybe 8 or 9, pulled out a two-year-old Culture Club best-of cassette and asked his mother who Culture Club were. I was only 16, and it was the first time I felt that temporal singe.

I was working in a record shop at exactly the same time - the elation of someone uncool walking in and buying (or ordering) something totally cool was the nearest I'll ever get to a Freemason's secret handshake :D

Wow, I’d completely forgotten this feeling — of cashing out tens, even hundreds of customers a day, and then having that one who buys a title from your favourite artist(s) — and thinking, “OMG, this person would be fun to go for a coffee and a chat.”

I definitely had a few of those — though in retrospect, two customers’ faces and personalities stand out for me. Both were regulars who’d come in maybe once monthly and buy yet-another title or two I was already loving. I have, unfortunately, long forgotten their names.

Ok...this is a massive indulgence but as it's 100% relevant capturing my stint in a record shop (and it's eventual outcome,) I'll show the copy written by my partner that's going into a book by Richard Houghton, All The Songs Sound The Same (A history of UK indie band, The Wedding Present.)

A great addition to the Amiga 1000 I posted back in December (which, thankfully, is still available). Think they'll accept an offer of $88,500 for both items?
I mean, if that setup can be used to, you know, “make” money, the price may not be so outrageous. :)

This listing made me chuckle not because of the price but rather the description:

This struck me as odd because laptops by their very nature are portable computers and with that in mind, it wouldn't be practical or cost effective, for that matter to provide a power adapter which is restricted to a specific region. I immediately looked for a photo of the adapter - which the seller helpfully provided in the listing...

100-240v: universal voltage compatibility! :D

All that's required to perform the test is a US to UK plug - which is widely available from the British equivalent of the dollar stores that are to be found in almost every town and city throughout the UK.

It's highly doubtful that a seller who specialises in electrical goods would be unaware of this - and the universal voltage of the power adapter. If they genuinely were not, I wouldn't have much faith in them as a seller: even if it involves supposedly untested items.

Does their feedback rating fall below, say, 100%? :)

It doesn't actually. They enjoy a solid 100% with 14k items sold over 23 years.

It’s not entirely beyond reason that they didn’t have an adapter around (or they do, but it’s buried somewhere they can’t get to readily) — given how they seem to run a high-volume of sales and probably have shelves and bins full of various bric-a-brac.

Oh, but that seller name, tho. My brain hurts in a “mummy, bad touch” kind of way. >_< It’s up there with the name “Techmoan”. Boys, boys…
