I just sold my Powermac DP 2.0Ghz with 2GB

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5837009131&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESO:IT&rd=1

And it is already been paid and shipped.

But today I got an email from buyer.

"I looked inside and there is no original Apple memory inside this
machine. Apple's memory is made by Samsung and the only thing in this box is 3rd party memory. I need to know where the original Apple memory is and I propose that either you refund me $200 and send me the original memory (2x256mb Samsung chips with the Apple part numbers on them as they came in the computer) or refund me $400 and I will send you all the memory inside this machine and go purchase a 2GB kit directly from Apple.

I am not concerned with what other people do. I wanted a machine with
the original Apple memory inside and was expecting a BTO computer with 2GB of original Apple memory (i.e. 4x256mb or 2x1GB as are the choices on Apple's website). Nowhere in your auction did you specify that this was a 3rd party RAM upgrade. If you had I would not have bid for this machine.

So, you choose. Either take the machine back and refund me in total , send
the memory and refund me $200, or refund me $400 and we'll call it a day. I am not interested in excuses. Please tell me how you wish to proceed based on the options I have given you.

If we can work through this I will still leave you positive feedback and no
one will be the wiser. However, if we cannot work through this I will not
only leave you negative feedback but I will also take this directly to both
eBay and Paypal under both protection policies I am afforded."

This machine came with hynix ram when I bought it.

So I offer the refund (less shipping and ebay fee) and suggest ask someone at the apple store for the ram. And the buyer still didn't reponded me yet. I hate 0 feedback person. He bidded at the last minute without contacting me. (Appraently, the guy didn't read description carefully)

Thank you in advance for your opinion

This isn't directed at you, it is directed at the person who bought your item.

He is an Idiot!

You didn't say it was a BTO, and the current specifications for a new Powermac purchase ARE NOT the same as what was available at the time your G5 was built.

Your Auction says nothing about it having Samsung memory, so the other person has no grounds for a dispute. If you get negative feedback from them, Dispute it with Ebay, I believe you have more ground to stand on.

he has no reason to expect it to be apple ram. YOu didn't say factory installed ram, nor did you say it was samsung ram. He is just trying to scam you out of $200. He doesn't expect you to fight.

If the kind of ram was a concern to him then he should have taken the time to ask you what kind of ram it was... probably before the auction was over, but even if he had done it before you shipped the item he could have saved you both time and money. It was clearly on his mind since as soon as he got it he went in and inspected the memory.

This is total ******** and I'm sure he will back down rather quickly (as it seems he already has). If you feel like being a righteous fellow you can leave him the middle feedback thing - not positive or negative, and comment that he was a fast payer, but that he tried to scam you out of $200 after the auction was over.

Thanks for many supports.

Unfortunately I already left positive feedback when that guy paid (ouch). Anyway I am still wating his response. I am so annoyed now. I had never this kind of problem before and I described perfectly on the description.
By the way, how ebay process this kind of problem or dispute?

Thanks and more input and opinions are welcome

I may be wrong, but I don't think Apple use only Samsung memory - they use a number of different suppliers, and there's probably no way of knowing what brand of memory a particular model and age of machine will be supplied with. There's maybe even a difference between machines that are the same model and age but built in different places.
Tell the guy to go and take a running jump (preferably at a moving truck). If he leaves negative feedback...(a) So what? (b) You get a chance to respond

You sohuldn't return him any money.

Firstly: Nowhere in your ad does it specify that this is a BTO machine with apple ram.

Second: He should not assume anything, if he wanted an all Apple BTO machine with apple everything, he should have asked.

Last: He was not even allowed to bid on your item. You say that buyers with 0 feedback must contact you first. You can report this to ebay.

In your response to him, be firm. Use the above arguements and tell him you are going to report him to ebay for asking for extra money (this could be seen as an attempt to make a transaction outside of ebay or play him as a scammer, which is highly illegal). Don't let him get away with this, you are clearly in the right.

Just out of interest, what sort of memory did you actually have installed? (Not that it matters as it obviously was up to Apple spec).
BTW, looking at the eBay pics, it looks a really well-looked-after machine. That guy got a bargain and he doesn't even know it!

Thanks again for many supports. I probably will never use ebay again. It is too annoying I couldn't sleep at all last night. :(

Two things are very clear. He or she assumed everything without reading description carefully and had 0 feedback and bidded without my permission.

I am getting more confident about this issue becasue of you guy's support.
More support or opinion would be nice to me

Thanks

Right. Apple uses memory from Samsung, Hynix, Micron and IBM. There is no telling what memory Apple will include with a specific machine. I can show you "original Apple" Hynix modules pulled from Minis and iMac G5's and eMacs when upgraded.

Additionally, unless you specified in the auction the brand of memory included, the only responsibility you have is to deliver 2 Gb of working memory. That's what you promised in the ad, no more and no less.

You could consider pre-emptively sending a complaint to eBay that the buyer is attempting to blackmail you by threatening negative feedback unless you pay a 'ransom'.

(Apple original hynix 2*256, this is the what that guy claim that it is not apple ram and insist that it should be samsung) + (2*256 hynix from somewhere yahoo shopping. But it is exactly same as original(same part number))+(2*512 OWC ram. Powermac guaranteed) = 2.0GB

I used this setup from 10.3.9, 10.4.1, 10.4.2 without any problem.

I am the person who keeps everthing (even twist tie with barcode which ties power cord and adpater, plastic wrapper, some kind of plastic cover that covers usb cable and you name it)

I am still very annoyed and mad

First, I've been using ebay for a long long time. As this guy is a noob to ebay, he needs to understand that feedback is a 2 way street. If he is a difficult buyer, it SHOULD be noted on feedback. Second, if your auction did not specifically state a type of ram, don't refund him a dime. You are in the right, not him.

Here is his or her reply couple of minutes ago

"Look, let's be honest here. Nowhere in your auction did you state that
this RAM was a 3rd party upgrade. You were careful to say that it came with the Tiger upgrade DVD but when you stated all the specs and said that you would include the original receipt that told me (and I had my friend who works for Apple corporate read over the auction prior to bidding) that this was a BTO machine straight from Apple with 2GB of original Apple memory. Other auctions say "the machine came with 512mb and I upgraded it to 2GB".
Neither myself nor my friend at Apple felt that we should clarify that
information since the only way you can get a Dual 2Ghz with 2GB is straight from the Apple store online as a build to order (BTO) unit.

Your auction also stated you were in a bit of a bad situation with
regards to medical expenses. I'm sorry for that and I know the feeling.
I'm not trying to rip you off but I feel like I've been taken advantage of in this situation. I also know that this memory will most likely work just fine but if I ever have an issue and need to take the machine to the Apple store for repair the first thing they will do after recreating the issue is remove all the memory and put actual Apple memory in the box. If the issue is solved when they do that I'll be stuck paying $400 for a 2GB kit.

So, what I propose to you, which I feel will work in both of our favors,
is to split the cost of a 2GB kit from Apple. If you will refund me $200 I
will keep the machine, we can both leave positive feedback and go our
separate ways. I hope this is acceptable."

Here is my reply to him

"
Let's really be honest.

1. I never mentioned that this machine is BTO and I never
metnioned that it has samsung ram. I only said that it has 2GB
ram in the description.

2. You didn't get the permission from me before bidding. (I clear
stated that on the description "if you have 0 feedback, please
contact me first before bidding). If you did email me first to get
the permission, this would never happen. You can click
nummber of bids and see how many bid from 0 feedback has
been canceled.

3.Your friend is not the seller. I am the seller. So you should
have asked about BTO to me not your friend.

4.I did nothing wrong on this auction and my machine is
perfectly described in the description.

5.I gave the option for refund (less shipping and ebay fee)

So there are two option here
1. Refund. less shipping and ebay fee
2. Keep the machine
3. Dispute through the ebay
"

What do you guys think? Am I alright?

Yeah, it seems fair to me. This guy is just trying to scam you. Report him to eBay and leave him negative feedback.

You said on the ebay site that it was a rev B that you got when rev C came out. I don't think you would have been able to order a rev B BTO from Apple when the rev C came out. He should have clarified it with you before bidding.

And that is why I do not accept Paypal for high ticket items, the risk of a chargeback is too high.

Negative feedback? My fb is in the thousands, -1 won't make a dent.

I highly suggest you DO NOT let paypal fix this problem for you!

About a month ago, I sold a PS2 on ebay. It worked fine and I tested it before shipping. I offered inssurance in the auction. The item got damage during the shipping (physical damage to the box).

He asked for a refund and I told him I was not responsible for damage during shipping and told him he should have took the inssurance I offered for 2$!

He made a complaint at paypal and I told them my story. They froze my paypal account with -125$ for a month and earlier this week, called me to tell me they would refund the guy! I told them they couldn't because I could not be held responsible for damage during the shipping when the buyer refuses the inssurance.

They, WITHOUT my consent, took 125$ from my bank account (I clearly told them that I refused this).

By the way, they did ALL this BEFORE the buyer had to ship the ps2 which I should receive within a week !!!!

DO NOT TRUST PAYPAL to fix this!

Delete all credit card and bank accounts from paypal before he files a complaint because paypal doesn't let you delete them while in a dispute.

I called my bank and they can't do nothing. Maybe it would be different with credit card inssurance.

Good luck, You are clearly the good guy in this but Paypal does like to protect their buyers more than their sellers!

Edit: btw, I have 220 100% positive feedback and am a good seller.

I wouldn't give this buyer (scam artist) time of day regarding his insane ransom request and actually make sure he gets negative feedback by telling everyone how he tried to extort money out of you, so that other future victims would be spared. Like some have suggested, make sure Ebay is informed about this sleazy buyer. goodluck.

I really regret it now. I had no such problem before. I sold like high end speakers and audio once (about $2000 worth). You know that audiophiles are very picky and not easy to make them satisfy. And I sold my iBook and Mac mini and so on. No this kind of problem.
