I just got an email that the El Capitan GM is now available for public Beta testers to download.

I got the email too but is it really considered a Beta at this point since it's now the GM?

A GM can still be considered a beta since there will most likely be multiple GM releases before the official release, just as with Yosemite, which I believe had 4 GM releases.

For those downloading, what is the date stamp on the file in App Store/Purchased? I'm seeing JUL 09 2015. Just want to make sure this is the correct file.

I'm seeing August 09. But I'm pretty sure this is just the date you first downloaded the Beta. Because thats around when I did.

Deciding if I want to download on my macbook or not. I had the beta running on my iMac but now that I've switched everything over I was trying to keep my OS a clean install. Is that GM the same that will be released 9/30 and its just early for beta testers? Leaning towards just waiting..don't really want any betas on this laptop.

It's a GM candidate, which means there could be future builds before release. Last year Yosemite had 3 GM candidates.

But it's not a "beta" anymore? I'm fine with updates...just don't want anything unstable on here.

Technically, no, but there might be problems. A GM candidate means Apple thinks it might be good enough for release.

Just updated to GM (This machine is on the Public Beta channel).

About this Mac reports version 15A262e but when I open the app store it reports it wants to install PB 6????

What a mess. And exchange still broken on multiple macs.

15A262e sounds like the version / build number for PB5? which was available as a full install, maybe they are just offering the same builds? and an upgrade to PB6? that would just take you back to the same version you started with.

I received the email but it is not showing up for me in the Purchases section or the Updates section. I'm currently on the developer beta channel though.
