Home from work for the weekend finally. We actually have some rain coming down right now. First time in months really as we're in a slight drought condition here this year.

Just finished my afternoon cup of Liquid Amber and at 16 grams it was just lovely.

Curious to see if @Shrink received his supply of Liquid Amber yet today.

Hey Mate, glad you enjoyed your Liquid Amber. It sounds like you found just the right dosage.

I just received my Liquid Amber moments ago (along with my order of Intelligentsia El Diablo blend). It's a bit late in the day for me to try it today as I don't want to test whether it will effect my sleep...as I suspect it might. (When you're old and feeble you worry about all this silly crap :()

I'll try it tomorrow morning. I am eager to find out what kind of brew it produces using a French press.

Sorry to hear it arrived too late in the day for you to enjoy. It will be there waiting, calling your name in the morning though.

As I awaken every morning actually really looking forward to my first cup of coffee...I will probably wake up even earlier than usual (about 5:00AM...old guys don't sleep so good:mad:) anticipating trying a blend that I have never had produced in my press.

It also gives you an idea of what gets you excited when you're a Senior Citizen! :(

Does anyone know why Gaggia espresso machines are so hard to buy nowadays? At least in the UK?

Sure...they just don't like you!:p

I'm not sure what the problem is, here, and here, and here, and here are websites selling Gaggia machines.

And with a bit more looking, I'm sure that I would find more.

I don't get your question...o_O

Ok, sure, yes they're available. What I mean, and should of said, is why the main stores (in the UK) such as John Lewis, Currys just don't stock them anymore? A couple of years ago they were available just about everywhere. I find it very strange (and to me a little suspicious) that such a well respected and popular global brand of coffee machine are no longer available in the UK's most respectable stores?

I did find a Gaggi Classic from "Caffe Italia" in London but, to be honest, wasn't confident enough of them to order. When I phoned them some "bloke" answered "hullo?" without any formal introduction and said I had to order online. All of which did not fill me with confidence.

As I say, Gaggia, to the average consumer in the UK are hard to find. Just wondering why?

I expect the you will find them in specialist coffee places (such as the 'caffe Italia" you mentioned) or high end department stores.

Selling your products in any high end store is not easy. We have been trying at work for years to break into those markets. We have now got a few products into Selfridges.
Because everyone else is doing the same (competing for the business and to be blunt shelf space), it could just be for those stores there wasn't enough sales to justify the room on the shelf so to speak.
Remember it is quite a niche market and all that.

Yes, it is a niche market, but, - and this is key - in this sort of niche market, brand recognition matters. That means only brands that are already well known (by consumers and the trade) - for having a quality product - and - perhaps - brands that may already enjoy a relationship with a vendor will enjoy shelf space.

Sipped a cup of press produced Liquid Amber...lovely, complex and sweet.

Just finished sipping my second morning cup, after taking a 2 mile walk, of Atomic Cafe French Roast.

A lovely coffee morning.

A two mile walk? I'm impressed.

And delighted to learn that the Liquid Amber lived up to expectations and that you were able to enjoy it.

The coffee did live up to expectations. It is smooth and rich...really a delight.

Yup...2 miles. It isn't pretty to look at, with a bit of staggering, but considering that less than 2 years ago I was totally paralyzed from the neck down...I guess I can't complain.:D

Is there much more progress expected?
2 miles is pretty impressive considering where you were.
Enjoy your coffee. Although Liquid Amber makes me think of larger not coffee.

You have made amazing progress; the aesthetics are irrelevant (I leave that to Olympic athletes - preferably without chemical helpers). Nevertheless, managing to walk for two miles is very impressive and a testament to your grit, positive attitude, and sheer fortitude.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the coffee.

And credit, too, to some wonderful physical and occupational therapists who work with me in the past.

As far as spinal "healing" (the establishment of new neurological pathways) goes, that is just about at the end of it's progress...that goes on for about 2 years from the time of the injury. which occurred at the end of September, 2014. All further progress will be a function of any work that I do...muscle strengthening, increased endurance, some increased range of motion in upper extremities, and the like.

OK...so much for off-topic nonsense...but with my thanks for your support and concern.

The kettle is now ready, and a cup of Atomic Cafe Diesel blend (such a nasty name for such a nice coffee) waits to be created.:D

Very well done on such a positive approach and attitude. I'm not sure I could have summoned up a similar mindset had such a set back happened to me.

And agree: Atomic Cafe Diesel Blend is an awful name. Actually, it is an exceedingly off-putting name. Nevertheless, nice to hear that it has its compensating virtues, such as a lovely taste.

The name Diesel brings to mind, for me, awful black sludge. Fortunately the product of the beans so named in no way resembles the image it stimulates.:)

Yes, that would have been my assumption as well with the name 'Diesel' (what marketing moron dreamt that one up?). "Awful black sludge", would also imply coffee that was thick, black and bitter.

I have to say that there is no way I would buy a coffee with such a name - unless reassured from other reputable sources that it was likely to be extremely good.
