Kenya AA with bitter chocolate.

Having another cup of Kenyan along with a slice of carrot cake.

Now, that is interesting.

While I really like Kenyan coffee, I suspect that my preference is more for dark chocolate (a square or two, no more) to be served with it, rather than anything sweeter.

Anyway, enjoy your Kenyan coffee, both of you, and enjoy whatever it is you choose to serve with it.

Yes, the carrot cake surprised me, too. Carrot cake has always been a winter dessert for me. Though it might very well be @JamesMike's act of eating healthy to appease his wife. :p

Reminds me of the time I had a beet and chocolate cake years ago somewhere in Eastern Europe. Wasn't bad at all. A bit too dense for my liking, though. I prefer a finer crumb or a sponge. I simply feel healthier eating that.

Don't try to marry me off...lol!

One form of chocolate cake I will make an exception for (when served with coffee) is the legendary Sachertorte; now, that works perfectly - nay, flawlessly - with some seriously good coffee.

Good to see you, SBG! We're still missing a check in from another regular.

Currently drinking some herbal tea because I've got an itchy throat. Might have something to do with the ice cold lager I had earlier today...

Thanks. It is lovely indeed. However it wasn't a gift in the usual sense of the word. We did come to an agreement on price and shipping. But it was a gift nonetheless in the sense that the person was willing to part with this wonderful piece of engineering. I'll tell him y'all said hi.

I still need to get it dialed in yet but I haven't had the time since it came the other day. I have the day off of work today so I will be practicing with it until I get it just right.

The beauty of the thing is stunning. I smile a little every time I walk by it.

Regardless, it's a splendid catch. I presume it's quite heavy?

It appears my itchy throat has come to stay for a while. Great... Just what I needed in the middle of summer. Though this does give me a reason to make some spicy food for myself. It's been a while since I've had hours of heartburn. Always a delightful experience as well. When you suffer, you also reminisce of how lovely the food was going down.

I'm a wee bit jealous.

It is magnificent, but - and here, reluctant candour compels an admission - I fear that such an engineering marvel may well be wasted on me.

But, it is wonderful, and I admire it from afar; enjoy it @SandboxGeneral and please convey my best regards to the donor - in the not quite traditional sense - of this splendid gift.

Ah, I love spicy food, irrespective of what my throat thinks.

But, then, in fairness, I do not - as a rule - suffer from heartburn.

Nevertheless, do enjoy it.

Yes, I made some Thai for one. Today was one of those days were the blistering pain on my tongue didn't bother me. My throat does feel better. I had some ginger and honey tea afterward. Currently having a latte made with some of that peaberry tri-blend with some honey.

Boring stuff ahead:

If you recall, I greatly dislike honey. However, I was given some organic wild clover honey by a beekeeper my family has known for a very long time. You know what? I quite like it. It doesn't have that typical honey flavor that sends a shiver down my spine. I had a honey once in Spain. The bees were "force fed" nectar from honeysuckle and jasmine. Apart from the minor allergic irritation I had, it was very tasty. Due to the remarkable weather we have here most of the year, and Mobilhatthi can attest to this, most of us can grow sweet scented flowers. Which is amazing at night or very early in the morning.

From reading this thread seems a grinder is important too.

Not "too" but "much, much more."

On a scale from 1 to 100, in terms of impact on what you will taste:

- high quality water: 100
- fresh beans (typically 2-5 days post roast): 100
- properly roasted beans: 90
- your grinder: 89
- properly made espresso: 89
- your espresso machine: 50

If you are semi-serious about espresso, many experts believe the Rancilio Rocky is the absolute minimum....about $350. If you are beyond semi-serious (by which I mean "you can taste and appreciate the difference"), well, many thousands.

ETA: this is dated but well worth reading:
