Two very good coffees - one from a stand specialising in organic snacks etc. and the second from an Italian chain coffeeshop - as I watched my trains get cancelled or delayed due to a light snowfall. The Swiss Federal Railway has not been having a good season so far and really not living up to their reputation.

Only two more days ... then Noel beckons.

Gosh.

I had heard that the Swiss Federal railway was supposed to be outstandingly good.

Enjoy your coffees.

I have just had an excellent cappuccino prepared with tender loving care (though not, needless to say, by me).

Indeed but they have gone through reorganisation and starting an ambitious program of upgrading the infrastructure due to projected passenger increase and an attempt to control overcrowding on the roadways.

Good article in English on the issue.

Saturation points
Indeed, one of the most saturated routes is around Lake Geneva, particularly between Lausanne and Geneva. Plans looking ahead to 2030 include doubling the capacity of the Lausanne-Geneva line and major upgrade works to stations, including the art-deco fronted one in Lausanne, dating from the 19th century.

“Lausanne station is not suited to cope with the big passenger flows expected in the future,” federal railways spokesman Frédéric Revaz told swissinfo.ch. “The underground walkways are too narrow, as are the platforms. The platforms also need to be extended by 420 metres to take longer, double-decker trains.”

Revaz says station upgrades elsewhere have paid off. “The station building in Geneva has been completely transformed and clients now have a lot more space and services. They also have a station that is livelier and has more light, which improves the sense of security. We have had the same success in Zurich, with the opening of Löwenstrasse station.”

At least in the Geneva station, us espresso lovers are rather spoiled for choice in getting coffee. From mediocre (Starbucks, Aperto) to decent (Coffee & Friends) to excellent (Caffé Ritazza, Gooddies or Prêt à Manger).

Honduran espresso at home.
At work my boss treated me with a cup of Starbucks’ Christmas Blend, which I have to admit is not bad at all. It’s a good way to start a morning.

Earl gray with honey and some warmed stravecchio brandy on the side. Scratchy irritated throat be damned.

There's two Christmas blends. One is a B2C and one is B2B. The B2B are usually better. This year's blend is surprisingly good. We've had a 5 pound satchel dropped to us each week for the last eightish weeks. Roast date of a few days earlier. Not burned considering it's Starbucks. Almost dark caramel, like atop a flan. It's been a favorite of mine and I tend to drink only their very, very light roast.

Christmas gift from my sister. Think she’s trying to get me to visit her more often!
