That's the model I'm thinking about right now. Eureka Mignon mct

From what I understand they changed/redesigned the output (?? thingy where the coffee comes out, lol) in 2009 to make it less messy or easier to handle. Also having the timer at the bottom right side now, which I honestly don't think I need and it looks kinda ugly. Former mode had its timer placed under the machine (!) which I guess most if not all people found uncomfortable to use - I wonder why. But since I don't need it, I would prefer the older model. Not sure about the 'output', though.

It looks like a good espresso grinder for the price and size range. I assume you only make espresso based drinks? If you make french press or drip as well then the Vario will be the much better grinder for ease of use.

I guess the spout redesign would come down to how much the price difference is between the first model and the revision. If its only a tiny amount then go for the better one.

You may have to use some distribution tricks with the first model like a funnel for the pf and using a needle to redistribute the grounds evenly in the basket. If your only making a few drinks a day then that isn't a big deal.

Very nice looking grinder. A bit later on, I'm going to take a look at the specs. If you get it, be sure to post a review so all of us can learn about it.

Enjoy!:D

Thanks, will do so! :D

Thanks for the reply. Yes, espresso only. And only 4-8 cups a week :)D)...so yea, nothing fancy.

I don't really get the last paragraph, to be honest. From what I've read, but I can be wrong of course, the price is the same. The redesign is nothing fancy (maybe I'll post two comparison pics later today), the pic I've posted is from the older model, the spout seems to be the same but with an additional black plastic thingy..I have no clue how it works atm, but it was made to get the grounds more accurate into the PF.

If the price is the same then get the redesign, no point in getting something worse, if the first one has static problems it might be really annoying!

My last paragraph was just describing some tricks to get the coffee where you want it. You can use a cut down yoghurt pot as a funnel to stop grinds going over the edge of the PF and then use something like a large needle to stir the grinds in the PF so they are evenly distributed.

If your looking for a compact grinder for espresso, there doesn't seem to be a better grinder for the price.

These are great suggestions.

I use a very small mini whisk to distribute the grinds...but that is in the blind tumbler used with my grinder. It might be a bit large, but also worth a try. A large knitting needle, as Kissaragi suggests, or a chop stick might work, too.

I really will have to buy a syphon system one day, just quite a big investment for a toy. Plus id need somewhere to put it!

Good news for me, the new grinder is out for delivery today! :)

Congratulations. Enjoy it when you receive it and do please let us know how it works and whether you are happy, very happy, or ecstatic with it when you finally receive it. ;)

Oh my, browsing this thread keeps reminding me of all the sweet coffee gear I would love to play with!

You are not alone in having such a sane, balanced reaction to perusing this thread.

This thread is a very dangerous place...especially to your bank account.

Stick around anyway...good to see you here!:D

Ah, but what great enjoyment raiding said bank account, and chatting with like minded friends it affords those of us who have joined in the fun....

Quite dangerous indeed! I'm making a secret wish list based only on this thread. :D

As am I.....

Would you use that to heat water for press coffee?

Filter coffee mostly in my case but yes. The sweet spot for water temp is around 90-95c so you could set it very precisely with that kettle. Assuming of course that the kettle is accurate in its temperatures.

UPS was here and handed me a package. It's much larger than some iPhone thing. I wonder what it could be. Unpacking to begin soon.

Since this is your first...er...whatever, some advice from an experienced user...

...even if it doesn't say anything about it in the Manual...do not put fingers in to check if it's working well.

Trust me on this...

Although if your fingers are uncontrollably inquisitive, at least unplug everything first. :p

I took some video footage of it's maiden voyage grinding the junkiest beans I could find at the supermarket as per Shrink's recommendation. That was to make sure any burrs on the grinder are worn down and to get any other junk off of them before I put beans through that I intend on consuming.

I'm woking on the video in iMovie right now and will post it soon.
