I often take lengthy periods away from coffee and consume tea instead. This is mostly due to drinking too much coffee for a certain period of time out of habit. Even with high quality coffee, I still find myself craving the near-sensual warmth a cup, mug or espresso shot delivers. Even in the heat of summer.
When I can no longer make out minute flavors in whatever variety of bean I purchase from whatever region of the world, I know I've had enough and take a break from the mighty bean.
That said, when flying, I prefer tea. Usually earl gray, or pick out a tisane if one is offered instead. A few stiff drinks to loosen up, too.
Colombian coffee for me this morning while reading the WSJ in the total silence of my house (well, with the exception of one of the cats that was eager to greet me). Definitely a nice way to start the day.
Yes, other than - possibly - agreeable classical music, I have come to think that silence is the best way to enjoy one's consumption of coffee.
Sometimes I put on some light jazz, especially if I am reading some sort of quarterly journal.
Maxim Saury's rendition of Petite Fleur is my cell phone alarm. Much better than the typical alarming racket an alarm clock has.Light jazz to accompany one's coffee for breakfast? Perfect.
David Lynch's coffee, Wall Street Journal, purring cat on the table, silence. Good start of the day.
Very good start to the day; cat, coffee, paper, and silence. Bliss.
Lamentably, chateau moi, I am almost out of Ethiopian coffee.
Therefore, it is clearly high time to make fresh contact with the Ethiopian Coffee Company.
Yep! I mean, cat was on the table already and barely acknowledged my presence, but you know... cats.
Ah! You must order asap! I can't imagine a more nightmarish scenario than being out of coffee.
There is something very relaxing - in an almost Zen way - about cats relaxing on the table, or nearby.
I have just phoned them.
Their buyer is out of the office (he will phone me tomorrow), and I had a chat with their very pleasant staff - they are a pleasure to deal with. However, as their stock is currently running rather low - they are due a large consignment of (fresh, new) coffees in the very near future, they thought it better for me to have a chat with there buyer tomorrow.
But this means that the I do place an order, it will not arrive before early to the middle of next week.
Perhaps, an emergency purchase from a small local roaster to see me over the week-end might and into next week may not be such a bad idea.
Back on the bean as of this morning. Really enjoyed that first cup. Pure sensory pleasure juxtaposed with the cold morning or cold for a July morning. Did put me into a thinking mood mid-crossword. If the typical person didn't consume a pastry or biscuit with their morning or mid-morning coffee or tea, how many calories less would they consumer year over year compared to a prior year of control where they did eat a pastry or biscuit with their morning or mid-morning coffee or tea?
Don't mind the babble.
