Indeed true. Returned from vacation with 9 lbs. of coffee from assorted sources/locations on the Hawaiian Islands. I was little concerned I would be stopped by the TSA (for unknown roundish objects) or Hawaii agricultural inspection (for coffee smuggling) -- but, alas, no problems. I think you are allowed to travel with 12 ounces of ground coffee without removing it from your carry on for inspection. I was travelling with whole beans of course.

No doubt those TSA agents would have felt compelled to make lots of coffee in order to verify that every package was in fact as it was labeled

And it will be interesting to hear the details of what you bought!

I came away with selections grown in the lava-infused soils of (1) Kona, Hawaii, (2) Kau'u, Hawaii, (3) Wiailua, Oahu, and (4) Kaua'i. I also bought a several packages of relatively mundane blended Hawaiian coffees, which were far less expensive (good for volume purchasing) but still more than good enough to keep me content in December and January (should they last that long). Finally, as a treat, I bought "Peaberry" coffee beans from Kaua'i.

While there I also taste tested the same coffee variety (from Waialua) processed in the both the washed and natural methods. I liked them both. 🤔

Had my store bought blended coffee that was ground four weeks ago before my trip to Hawaii. I am sorry to say that it was stale and not good at all -- I guess that is to be expected. Tasted like dirt. I threw out the small amount of remaining coffee and will begin anew tomorrow with the fresh good stuff. Sometimes the "waste not, want not" ethos just does not cut it.

Agree completely.

And "waste not want not" (above all, if it is stale and tasteless) especially does not apply when you have a supply of fresh, delicious, coffee beckoning you.

Waiting for this special to turn up in my local Aldi --

It's a bit more expensive than their normal 1kg packs, but it means I can try all four Aldi South American blends. These are freshly roasted in Melbourne and then shipped around the country within a week, unlike the coffee blended and roasted in Europe, then put on a slow ship to Australia.

Just wondered today when warm/hot espresso is longed for, and when an ice-espresso is the desired option.
Today, when 25°C a strong Ice Espresso is a total pleasure, and I might even take another one in a moment. Yesterday when it was only 20-21°C a hot big espresso was great and enough.
I think however it's easier to drink more ice-espresso's then the hot option. At least for me ❄️☕

While many coffee drinkers like to go both ways, I personally like my coffee hot. When it's hot, I tend to favor cold non-caffeinated options like smoothies, lemonade, frappes, milkshakes, juice, water, etc. I always get my coffee in the mornings so when it's hot later in the day I usually do not crave coffee. I, myself, think it's strange that I do not really enjoy iced coffee.

Well, if I am honest with myself I do enjoy iced coffee but it msut be said that you can savour aromas better with warm beverages.

I just wonder what kind of iced coffee/espresso you drink when you drink it?
I never cared much for the cold version until I learned to freeze in espresso shots and used that for the iced variant. Using ice will not make a good variant. Too diluted.
Personally I love both hot and cold, like everything else in life 😀

Very interesting observation. I do very much enjoy the aroma of hot coffee. It is actually part of the experience in drinking a cup for me. Maybe this helps explain why the iced variety does nothing for me.

I do not usually drink iced coffee so I am unfamiliar with the preparation strategies. I have not had one in many years but maybe your method would work for me -- and I am pretty much open to trying anything. Do you simply brew a coffee and then freeze it in a shot glasses and use that as the ice?

These container are 70 ml / ~2,4 oz

I usually take 2 of those in a double espresso that is the same amount of hot espresso.
Tastes excellent to me, and I’m pretty picky 😋

I'll sometimes have iced if it's a hot day and I'm meeting somebody in the afternoon at a cafe with outside seating, but I rarely make iced for myself. Freshly made, it's hot coffee for me.

However, I often make enough in the morning so that there's more than will fill one mug. The excess is left to cool to room temperature, which I find to be very flavorful.
