I hope your kitchen is big enough for that set up!

Or this. It is only a matter of time......

I don't want to beat up the Mazzer too much. It is a wonderful grinder and its reputation and popularity are well-deserved. But, that K10.....wow...check out the adjustment knob. I talked myself out of ordering one last night. We'll see how long I can continue doing that.

I apologize for the highly annoying camera-person on the video on that page.

Coffee supply constraints aside, I do need to mitigate the excitement for the Gaggia coming in today. While I'll get it in a few hours from now, I won't be able to set it up until later tonight, like around 9:30pm EST or thereabouts. I have a full schedule of things to do today.

But once I'm home, you know what I'll be doing late into the evening.

Now THAT is a major piece of commercial equipment!

It is a bit large...but if you have the space , it appears you can grind up enough for a couple of hundred cups a day...it might just barely meet your need!:p

Mazzer's reputation for excellence is well earned. It's not an accident that the guys who built the HG-one went to Mazzer for their burr sets. In their first production run, they offered a 72MM and an 83MM bur set. Apparently no one went for the 72MM...so now they only offer the 83MM set.

You don't know how much I appreciate that "young" part.:D

A while ago I was speaking with one of my 85 year old patients, and she asked my age. I told her, and she said..."You don't look your age", which made me feel pretty good, until she finished the sentence..."...you look much older".

Considering I spent part of yesterday in a South Florida airport listening to a sweet old woman tell me about her recent hip surgery....your verve and enthusiasm feels down-right pre-pubescent! ;)

In a coffee shop.
I am nearly in a coffee crisis right now.

I am about all out of my favorite Tim Hortons beans. I stopped by the store yesterday to pick up a fresh bag of whole beans and they were sold out. The lady told me that they might have more in today or maybe Wednesday.

Today I went down the the next town south of me for a much needed massage and decided to stop by the Tim Hortons there and inquire about a bag. It turns out that store doesn't carry whole bean bags ever.

On my way back into my town I stopped my the store to see if they had a shipment come in and to my dismay they did not.

Both stores offered me some fine grind coffee which I politely refused.

I have enough beans for maybe 2 cups in the morning, maybe. If not I'll have to go to the Tim Hortons drive through and buy their brewed coffee. The good thing is that I like their brew - just not as good as mine.

I think the expression I need here is: "I feel your pain." Seriously. To run out of coffee and or coffee/beans is a seriously traumatic thing to experience, (this is something I have experienced, invariably on returning from abroad); it may even be that a spot of counselling is called for to deal with the PTSD of your immediate situation.

Then, again, the imminent arrival of the Gaggia may well serve to ameliorate your distress.....

Forgive me Coffee Gods, for I have sinned. It has been many years since my last confession.

I'm afraid to even say it, for fear of the extreme penance I may receive, but 'tis better to seek absolution than wallow in evil deeds.

Today I drank airplane coffee.:(:(

OK, well, you successfully learned something you don't like, so congrats. Just chalk it up to a cute flight attendant.

British Airways makes very good espresso onboard. Not sure why that is relevant.

While airline coffee is normally quite dire, in recent times Turkish Airways have started to offer Nespresso in Business Class; it must be the effects of high altitude and lack of decent oxygen that persuades me that a (proper crockery) cup of this stuff actually tastes of something resembling coffee......

Strange things happen when you're encased in a metal can 30,000 ft up hurtling hundreds of miles an hour across the country. Muted senses, disturbing visions, delusions of coffee...

Exactly. You are quite right. Normally, I would barely deign to cast a condescending glance at Nespresso; 11,000 metres it is passed off (successfully) as a delightful luxury and lapped up gratefully. Yes, muted senses and all that....

This is a tale I look forward to hearing. Do let us know when the Gaggia arrives in its new home. We'll warmly welcome it as well, vicariously.

Mind you, I always love the anticipation of waiting to receive something I have really wanted for some time; it makes the appreciation and eventual enjoyment of its arrival all the more sweet. Actually, the concept of delayed gratification (as long as neither the delay, nor the gratification are too delayed) has something going for it.

When you succumb (note, not if, but when you do eventually finally and inevitably succumb on the matter of this planned purchase - for this is a long process, but I recognise the first steps taken towards effortless self-persuasion on such matters, - this is not an internal debate which will be classed as robust - and here I write with rueful self-knowledge as I am equally culpable on such matters myself), I really wish to read your wife's observations on this. Your earlier posts had me in stitches.

Medical update: A long restful night, with no coffee but much medicine and green tea restored me to something other than the zombie of yesterday. I tried a double espresso today (and the boys in the coffee shop were delighted), which, while very nice, didn't hit the spot it normally does. So, another few days of deep resonant coughing, rasping, spluttering and sneezing await me. However, I shall be strong. Tomorrow morning, after another's night's rest, and much dosing of medicines, I shall have another double espresso. So far, today, the insane desire for green tea has receded, but has not yet been replaced by my normal appetite for espresso.......

It is said that you are only truly young for a short time, but if you play your cards right...you can be immature your whole life.

I live by those words...:p

You know that you're sick as hell if the espresso doesn't do it for you!

And while tea has it's points (I'm not sure what those points are...but a lot of people love the stuff), when an "insane desire" for green tea overtakes you...it is time to lie down until that desire passes.

You have my deepest sympathy for your suffering with whatever bug you've picked up...but please be sensible, rest, and drink your green tea (oy!).:D

I'm home now for a few minutes. I have some time to unpack before I head out again. I stopped at Tim Hortons and they had a fresh shipment of whole beans in today! Hooray!

As long as Puma approves...you're all good!

So happy you were able to get your Tim Horton beans...that's just great!

Looks like Cafelat is cutting costs on materials these days.

You would think when you drop some dough on a machine...they might come through with a usable tamper. I guess the assumption is that if you buy this machine, you already have a good tamper...but still....

BTW: My machine came with a completely useless tamper, too.:(

Enjoy...enjoy...

Time for one last picture before I head out. Later tonight I'll hopefully be able to start using it. But I should read the directions first too!

Discontented with my grinding situation at work, I picked up one of these for my desk today!

I was just wondering...is the grind adjustable with that good looking unit?

BTW: I think it will probably work better if used in the vertical orientation.

Just a guess...I'm not a physicist and I don't play one on TV.:p

Yes it is adjustable. Not sure of the resolution, but there is a nut on the bottom of the grind unit that turns for just this purpose.

Nice set up, Mate!:D

Oooo pretty!

Thank you.

And, after all of that, tonight I went back to the Chemex, so I could try this bean from the roastery mobilehaathi suggested. Very, very nice. Smooth. Bright. Medium body. Low acidity, which is perfect for a cup savored over this morning's (now dated) newspaper. Made for a pleasant evening.

Thank you, mobile...

I hope our pinch of salt friend is doing better. And, SBG, looking forward to your first cupping report.
