What do you expect from beans general labeled as 5/10 ⁉️😂

I actually have 2 bags of those beans in my cupboard. I got them cheap or free or as a bonus when I shopped at my favourite place - where I buy my Lavazza Mountain beans.
Figured I could mix them up with the 9/10 Intenso beans that I payed nothing for.

I’m on my 2nd bag 6/10 bag right now - 2 very different types of beans.
I will definitely buy more of 1st one - the barrel aged.
I had another bag of those a few bags before as well - very good.
Happy to have a few bags of the Mountain grown Lavazza beans that waits to be consumed too 😋

It can varies....depending on shop and their offers.
But in general Lavazza are a good brand that are very affordable, They also sell ground-coffee.

Aren’t you are in Switzerland?
If I remember right - check this out - https://espressa.ch/en/lavazza-gold-selection-coffee-beans-1
Gold selection, I have to find some of those here - remember them as very good.
Thanks that's correct I am in Switzerland. I will look for those here and certainly try to find the Gold selection.

@decafjava

Another option, buy an electric grinder and you can buy any beans and get fresh grinded beans to your coffee all the time 👍🏼

I have a very old electric grinder that I may noy use so much to coffe-beans today, but it's still in work for a lot of other grinding.
You can get one cheap on Amazon, together with your preffered beans.

Whole bean coffee always. So, a grinder is essential for sure. A burr grinder is the gold standard for coffee preparation versus the more inexpensive less expensive blade grinder. Either is better than using ground coffee.

Edit: My poor articulation my have caused some confusion so I changed the moronic phrase "more inexpensive" to "less expensive." Apology to the thread.

You can get a decent quality burr grinder for between 3 to 5 times the cost of a blade grinder (taken from 10 seconds research on one site in the Internet...).

However, you will always get consistent results from a burr grinder, regardless of the beans. A burr grinder will always give you inconsistent results, depending on the hardness of the beans, how long you grind them for, etc, etc, etc.

Spend the money on a burr grinder.

Also, when I did have a blade grinder, a friend who will forever remain nameless ground cloves in it. I always had clove-flavoured coffee after that.

I agree. Burr > Blade. Either better than pre-ground (for freshness reasons). Although electric burr grinders tend to be a lot more expensive then manual burr grinders. This is why an electric blade grinder can make sense -- for both the cost and convenience.

I used to be a full on super intense person, 9/10 stuff.
Recently that overpowers my tastes, dialed to medium now.

The intensity scale helps you choose a flavor profile that matches your preferences:

Lavazza US
Levels 1–4 (Light): Delicate aromas and a light body. Great for those who prefer smooth, mild cups.
Levels 5–7 (Medium): A balanced, rounded body with rich flavors. This is the middle ground, offering a solid flavor profile without being overly bold.
Levels 8+ (Dark/Bold): Highly consistent body with an impactful, rich, and robust aroma. Best suited for espresso or for coffee drinkers who prefer a strong kick.

Btw, I saw your coffee and will try it once these beans are gone

It really depends....on more then the the number in some cases, and our preferences are personal - neither do they stay the same either 😉

Agree in general with your definition of the numbers, about Lavazza's beans.
Genetally, the Light beans up up to 4 I pass thoug.
5, 6, 7 and usually 8 are where it tastes best.

The Mountain bean's that are a 7 is probably the 'best' of Lavazza's I found in recent years.
But if I drank only them....I might get tired of them, too.

Ah well, I've had Espressso-macines from my mid teens when I was gifted my 1'st Siemen's machine. They lasted approx. a decade each.
I have no idea when I discovered Lavazza? That I mostly buy today - the categorization & the numbering is great.
But obviously I did survive on other types of beans that I probably mostly bought in general food-stores for decades 😉

Watched James Hoffman's video of steaming water to make an Americano.
I am assuming that the effect is that it aerates the water (more oxygen, more CO2), making it more 'tasty'.
Could you get the same effect with a water tap aerator? Or does it need to go on for longer, or does the heat of the steam produce more intense aerating?

Wow, got a message from a store that they had these in stock now, not easy to get them here, so I had to buy 2 of them.
Hopefully the experation time are good- they usually are...
So my storage of Beans will be even greater 😀

Thanks for that. I watched it and enjoyed it.

I always make a long black where I just take the water from the machine (50/50 water/coffee). My second for this day will try to steam cold water instead. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can tell the difference.
