This post is just for fans of Ultra bands…

Went to the Apple Store this past weekend. Knowing Apple product photography is anywhere from slightly to wildly inaccurate, I wanted to see each band for myself. Here are my thoughts:

Alpine Loops
These are my all-time favorite Watch Bands, so I was most excited to see these. I wore my OG Green Alpine Loop to the store because I wanted to compare it the new Dark Green. The new band is the “dark mode” version of the original. It’s very nice but will be a low priority for me personally due to its similarity.

Navy surprised me and became my instant favorite from this year’s set. It’s a totally different band than last year’s awesome Blue which was “washed out” like blue jeans (h/t @athousandbands). This year’s Navy is heavily saturated in contrast, making the band much darker overall and there is a subtle yet noticeable contrast to the slightly brighter loops which creates a nice “pop” in color which really makes the band for me.

Tan is 2nd place for me, but still a winner. The loops really have a pleasant maize color while the band itself is more desaturated than in Apple’s photos. The Dark Green feels specifically made for the black Ultra; Tan actually feels more aimed at Ultras with natural titanium cases.

Trail Loops
The easy winner here is Blue – possibly even the best of all of this year’s Ultra bands. Mind you, it’s actually using the same 2 shades of blue as the Navy Alpine Loop, so this should also be called Navy but isn’t because reasons. Anyway, the brighter, more royal rails + tab really come to life against the dark body which has tiny pink dots on the patterned side which shifts the navy, er, “blue” body ever so slightly towards purple. Great band!

I don’t have much to say about Green or Black. Black is relatively similar to the OG Black/Gray, but it is definitely nice to have a darker, true black option. Green is honestly fairly dull. The shade of green doesn’t have the “forest” quality of the Dark Green Alpine Loop and is not an exciting shade of green at all.

Ocean Bands & Milanese Loops
As for the Oceans, Navy and Black are fairly close to each other and really aren’t exciting at all. However, they are utilitarian as they pair naively with the black Ultra case. Ice Blue is slightly more saturated than Apple’s product photography and is a very cool color. It’s particularly nice with contrasting black titanium hardware.

I really don’t have anything to say about the Milanese Loops that others haven’t already said. They’re surprisingly light and comfortable and look better than I thought they would with the Ultra.

Hope something here is helpful to someone!
Splendid guide for future and existing Apple Watch Ultra users to know how these bands work and fit. I will definitely need to recommend @sbassios to check it out, they are waiting for their natural titanium Apple Watch Ultra 2 to come and they are getting their very first Apple Watch.

I have three sunsets I think, took forever for me to finally leave the silver hardware on one. Looks so good with old bronze gold:

🔥 how did you get the buckle and lugs gold plated on it to match gold stainless steel 40/41mm Apple Watch ⌚️? Is it a prototype version?

This season there are some bands, where I'm not sure if those are new or just re-released colors from previous seasons. For example:
- Black & Starlight Sport Bands (Apple declared them as "new")
- Starlight/Pink & Black/Blue Nike Sport Loops (also here, Apple declared them as "new")

Does anybody know if they are identical or not?

Just adapted version for the rounded, newer 42mm and 46mm AW S10s.

I can’t tell anything about Starlight, but I was told from different sources, that
  • Black is indeed a slightly new shade
  • both Nike Sport Loops are different from last season if you look closely
Both need to be confirmed. The differences might be very small and barely noticeable.

It's challenging to understand Apple's band labeling, as bands may be considered new if they have a new marking or if they were not available last season (but were available the season before).

Then the sport bands just got new lug shapes to conform to the shape of the S10, right?

Anybody yet have photo's or tried the new natural ss milanese loop or link bracelet with the old silver ss watch? Kinda interested in the smaller sized 46mm natural milanese but wondering how the lugs and overall look would be on a silver ss watch.

I love the blue!! Thinking of ordering the navy alpine loop.

Do you have a photo you wearing that? Above photos just show it to the side !

Sorry, no I don’t. The store was crazy busy so I felt self-conscious about swapping bands on and off my personal watch – didn’t want to make anyone feel like I was trying to play a shell game and steal something. In retrospect, I should have just swapped them on and off the display units and modeled them that way, like I did in the Dark Green Alpine pic. 🤦‍♂️ Now I know better for next year.

Even on a Sunday afternoon this past weekend the Apple Store near me had triple the amount of people in there on launch weekend like it was a typical Saturday, versus the other weeks i go there. I had seen it as I had been going to the Apple Store every Sunday since a bit before Apple event. The Apple Watch try on tables with the bands were taken over by lots of people so I had to use the S10s and ultra 2 on the docks to try them on where it was not crowded.

The black/blue Nike sport loop looks way different in this video. I have last year’s and it wears way more black with slight hints of blue. This is a great video comparing Jet Black, Slate, and Ultra 2 Black.
