Trust me, you do want to get the new product red; it‘s an awesome, deep red and noticeably darker than the original product red.
If all goes like it has in the past, we have about 2 weeks to go, until we see new bands. 
First, that model number brings up a 38mm band, not a 42. Next, noting that the first gen blue 42mm begins with MJ4, I would also assume the one you are asking about is a first gen. Hope this helps.

Yes I collect and wear 38mm bands
the seller said it’s the very first one but I’m just wanting to be sure. The first gen is darker than the second correct? The photograph I kept shows a fair amount of difference in shades. If this is the darker of the two, the second one must be a really baby soft blue huh?Thanks so much Peter!
They are international in Europe somewhere I believe, I haven’t received them as of yet but I’ll let you know

They are subtle changes, but different enough. The 2nd gen has a hint of aqua I think. Here are both of them, 1st and 2nd.

My wife and I have had the Nike + models for almost a year now, and we visited the closest Apple store (2 ½ hrs drive) yesterday and decided to upgrade our watches (significantly). See before and after photos below.

Now I’m unsure again.. ok here is my “blue” , azure and royal blue. So does this look like first gen when you compare? Based on photo I have of the collection (that I got from you right?) I’m saying first now too. Boy they are very different.

If the seller told @Laryl the original first gen model number (MJ4...38 & 42mm) which is probably now rarer than the second gen, then I agree with them based on the color that it appears to be in my eyes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Your model number is similar to the US version of the second gen (MLDL2ZM/A); the MLDL prefix is the same but the latter letters are regional. Note that if you google yours with FE, international sites come up first. Yes, the second gen is lighter, but that’s not what I believe it is.
Funny how hard it is in photos lol. I pulled my box out and bet it’s the darker of those two..I don’t see the aqua tint in my box like thatLooks like you got a 2nd gen. The first gen is a darker blue.
