I actually just started putting different locations in the search and found one about 35 miles away from me. I did an instore pickup. So I guess I know what I will be doing tomorrow.
one lemon cream? am I involved with your pickup here or did you want one too? 🤔😂

If there's a functional progress related reason to update the connections then I have no doubt Apple will. Yes Apple changes things, people get in an uproar about it and then it dies off and we accept it. Things like moving to Lightning connector and then removal of the 3.5mm jack I wasn't a fan of at first but am good with them now. Those drivers were likely more technology related though but I recognize they come into play with the form factor of iPhones. All I know is I've spent an obscene amount on bands much like many of you here. If they decide to change the connector and prevent me from using bands I've already purchased, I'll very likely never buy another watch band again and will just use whatever comes with the watch itself. Fingers crossed.

On a positive note, Surf Blue Sport Loop arrived today and I ordered it only yesterday. Looks like that will be a go to for this summer.

Despite my reservations about Apple changing the watch, discontinuing the bands and flushing all my money down the drain, I ordered three loops this week, surf blue being one of them. I think I will like the mix of blue and neutral colour.

Here's hoping you'll enjoy it. For me, it's mostly gray since having a large wrist means I get about one third of the Surf Blue exposed. That being said, the gray looks good and the blue on the borders is subtle, yet it pops. If that makes sense. I'm also looking forward to the Linen. To my eye, it looks like it has a hint of purple in it.

I’m also curious about linen blue. It looks like a mix of delft and Alaskan blue. I don’t plan to get it because I have three blues including delft but it looks very pretty.

I'm not saying there is something wrong with the mechanism and therefore it should be changed. Rather, I'm saying there is a likely chance Apple will tweak the mechanism (either an improvement or otherwise) which will remove backwards compatibility for the bands. They might also keep the underlying mechanism but with some design changes à la MagSafe 1 vs MagSafe 2 thus making older bands incompatible with the newer watches.

Do I expect my bands to lose compatibility with newer watches? Yes. Will that stop me from collecting bands? No. But I won't hold my breath expecting Apple to maintain band compatibility with future watches. Because as MacDevil has so gracefully pointed out, "Apple has never had a hard time removing a legacy port/connector when it becomes a design limitation." With every band I buy I take the risk of it not being compatible with the next generation Apple Watch.
I guess we'll just agree to disagree then. I don't see any need to change it and I completely disagree with your statement earlier that some team in Apple will be lobbying to change it. Unless there is a good technical reason they won't change it. It's not comparable to dock connector to Lightning, USB-A to USB-C or 3.5mm jack removal.

Anyway, does nobody have any of the new bands IRL yet? Our order of all 4 is out for delivery. I can't believe down here in lil' ol' NZ I'm going to be the first on here too have them in my hot little hands.

If I am then I can take pics this evening, but in artificial light as it's winter here and dark by the time I get in from work (yes, we go to work here again now - other than out borders are closed we're virus free and back to normal). I can do daylight pics tomorrow, but surely someone else will have them by then.

My wife just confirmed - she has them in her possession as they were delivered to her office just now.

Also, for any AV nerds, my Sonos Arc appears to be waiting at my front door for me at home...

my fear is that I'll like the one my wife has ordered. I love my lavender gray band because of that bit of purple in it, its one of my favorites. I have way too many blues already, but if Linen has purple in it..... dang it!!!!

The one situation that I can see changing the connector might be some new found requirement to route power through the connector to enable some low power sensor placed within the band. As the conversation has swirled this year on sleep monitoring and blood ox, there may be an opportunity to expand the health monitoring using a band embedded device powered from the watch itself. I realize we're talking about extremely limited amount of battery being available, but they may have ways to deploy such sensors, particularly if we move to true "wireless" charging for phones and watches.

And I contend that that is possible with the current connector. We can be pretty certain that, should there ever be smart bands, it would be un-Apple to have them look ugly. I think that there is enough thickness in the end of the existing band to interface with a connector in the Watch slot, and I don't see the end getting any thicker to accommodate one if I'm currently wrong - they'd wait until they can miniaturise the connector enough to fit it in.

The watch already has (and has had since Series 0), a smart connector in the lug channel; If they were going to come out with smart bands it would not be that much of a stretch.

I’m too tired to post a ton of shots, but here are Some quick comparisons below of two of the new summer bands.

Seafoam is gorgeous. Nothing like the hero shot. Below with turquoise and Beryl. It’s REALLY light and a super bright blue.

Coastal grey is a solid mix of cocoa and gray. I actually love it. Grey above and cocoa below.

Thanks for the pics. I think I’m going to have to grab a coastal grey now after seeing it.

Seafoam must be pretty light, making that turquoise look dark 😳 looking forward to seeing them in daylight!

So here are my shots of all 4 new bands. It’s dark so these are straight from the camera under LED down lights.

Surf Blue, Royal Blue, Denim, Alaskan Blue, Blue Cobalt, Blue Horizon with Linen Blue over. IRL it’s slightly less purple I’d say.

Beryl, Turquoise, Teal Tint / Tropical Twist with Seafoam over. I agree with @toxtrepla it’s lovely, bright and makes even Beryl look drab.

This pic isn’t good in the lighting. Fog, Dark Olive and Cargo Khaki / Black with Coastal Grey over. My wife likes it, but it’s a bit brown for me.
