Err, its makes it a lot less likely he uses it

i started using (what used to be) Macromedia Studio back at around 11 yrs old. Sure, I sucked at it.. but I got better to where, now years later, I have a head start on how to use it than some people twice my age. Why criticize people for having nice software just because they're a certain age. All props to them for using it, or trying, it gives them a head start, and why should someone feel wrong in extending their education just because they're fourteen?

Due props, young padewan computer user. There are no age limits on programs like Final Cut or Macromedia/Adobe. In fact, it's rather brilliant of you to begin using them at a young age. This is a positive thing for you to do, and I'm glad you were able to acquire these programs, as they are indeed expensive. Clearly, there are others who can't afford them, and when they see that you have them, some get jealous and lash out at you for something silly. Like saying you're not old enough to own them.

Anyway, I hope you continue to build up your skills. I work in the creative content industry, and just wanted to pat you on the back for choosing to spend your free time in such a positive, educational way.

thanks! I just got my hands on CS3 and FCS2. It just kind of ticked me off that people would criticize someone for owning freaking computer applications at a certain age. Kinda Stupid. And for those of you on the spoiled brat rant, I paid for FCS2 and CS3 was a gift, both academic versions. Just give it a rest.

Nice! Congrats. :) What sort of projects are you planning on doing? I use FC2 and CS3 programs daily. I started out young too (on an Amiga LOL, tells you how old I am!). I remember a multimedia creation program called Act (or something). Sort of a primitive version of Flash. And Authorware and Director, oh my! The best thing about it, is that it's something I enjoy, and work doesn't feel like work.

Do you use online tutorials often? I find them very helpful, and despite how long I've used these types of programs, I don't feel like I've mastered them, and am always up for learning new tricks. I wish you the best, and if you ever want links to tutorials, or anything along those lines, feel free to PM me.

thanks man! For FCS2, i got about a week ago, so I'm still learning it! But, I plan on using it to earn some extra cash. I started off making videos for people I know, and entering contests, etc. Hopefully build up some skills and get into some really cool stuff. CS3- I'm working on a website/project type deal. And then, I have a few people who've asked me to do some print web-design for them. Really, I just want to learn how to master these complex programs, hopefully I'm on the road to do so.

I've subscribed to some podcasts (Photoshop User TV, Final Cut Help, Learn Final Cut Pro, Macbreak HD, Creative Cow, Adobe Creative Suite), and then reading the 15 pounds of manuals that came with FCS2. Then a few websites like http://psdtuts.com/ i visit every so often. i'll probably pick up a book or two the next time I'm out at a book store, but for now I think I'll finish the 94 podcasts and such I've accumulated. LOL. Thanks though! Yeah if you have any good resources, I'd love to see them! Or if anybody does for that matter.

If I didn't have to pay insurance, buy a little gas, pay my phone bill, or save for a car - i'd definitely have a much nicer set up.

And at least macboy isn't spending his money on drugs, alcohol, Hollister clothes! He's actually buying/getting things that are going to further his education. Yayyy macboy

haha. i buy all of thoose clothes and my macs, fcs2, cs3, iphone etc. :) haha when i actually have to start paying bills, my spending habits are going to be screwed. credit cards are going to be my worst enemy.

hahah I can't stand hollister and abercrombie or any of that. Whenever I think of those clothes I think of East coast people wearing "Orange County" "Laguna Beach" shirts that say hollister and have seaguls flying around hahah. And add a hat tipped to the side to that. :D

i CANNOT stand abercombie...they discriminate with sizes (a Large there is equivalent to a small at any other store)...they are snooty, and there music is just plain annoying.

Like Radiohead much? :)

Don't blame you. Amazing artist.

God it looks like everywhere I look, there is someone who is obsessed with Radiohead. I've been listening to In Rainbows and Hail To The Thief almost non-stop over the past few weeks...

yeah, Radiohead is probably one of my favorite bands :).

And Jfull15, don't bother reading the FCS2 manuals. They consist of a lot of really unhelpful stuff with a tiny amount of really helpful stuff buried deep inside.

Just watch online tutorials, ask other people who know how to use FCS2 - and most importantly, USE IT! That's probably the fastest way of learning how to use most software (the only exception i've come across is Blender ;)). And as others were saying, good job on acquiring such nice programs at such a young age! I'm sure you will become very proficient with them :).

Yes Radiohead is awesome.

As for the FCP discussion I wouldn't look at tutorials or read the manual. The best way to learn it is hands on experience and more specifically take a class at your school or local university. I learned the basics in 7th and 8th grade in video class and from there have progressed by using the basic stuff I've learned from those classes. I took a few video classes in high school but those didn't teach my anything I haven't already learned from previous classes or on my own.
