I was kind of thinking of starting a small computer "repair" shop at my house. Could you give me some tips?
Always over estimate on the cost of the re-pair, or upgrade, or building. That way you look good. Just dont over estimate to much

. And if something comes up that you didn't think about, try not to let it push your original estimate over the edge. This will show them that you are truthful.
Write up a waver for them to sign. All this has to compose of is "I will try to do my best while working on your computer, or other electronic device. I I'm not a certified technician in any field. I I'm not responsible to any thing that happens to your computer, or other electronic device after i return it to you. I give no warranty to any work i do. I will be more than happy to fix any other problem that occurs." --Just a ruff explanation, just make it sound professional, and try not to use much business BS that no one understands. Also, put something in about, "i will not re-turn your computer, or other electronic device until i receive payment." This will protect you from getting screwed over. And, it might be a good idea to collect tax. This could prove helpful. This is what my IT teacher told us he did, he had a very extensive report on every thing he did. One thing he did was he made up a small re-port of every thing he did with the computer.
Have a lawyer look it over. A friend of mine did this, and the guy charged him $20 to look it over, and told him what he should change, and what was good. Just go to a small law firm, doesn't need to be a big one. Then get it notarized by a bank. Like US bank, or Bank of America, or another well known one. Shouldn't cost to much.
Then have the customer look it over, and sign it before they give you the stuff they want fixed, or up-graded, or built.
Then put adds up every where you can. And if a local ISP has classifieds that you can use, use them. Tell friends, tell family.
just a few pointers. good luck.
