he probally did living in cleveland and was born in 48' and lived a 50's childhood

And on top of that, life was still predominantly black and white. Imagine looking at those trees outside, stripped of their Technicolor (and better!) glory in which you see them today.

As I was reading that I thought this was going to turn into a racist comment. Phew, dodged that bullet.
Actually, funny as it may seem, I don't know why but I always picture life like that. I don't know why, I just can't comprehend that they had color always.

Jeffzoom91,

That's a really nice Compaq! What kind of video card does it have in it? I have a HP laptop with a AMD Athlon XP-M 2200+ 1.67GHz processor, so is the Compaq fast?

unfortunatly, it is an Nvidia Geoforce440GO with 64 mb of on chip ram, not stolen from the systm (<-----great show btw), but it is only DirectX 7, so i cannot play any new games past Counterstrike source and Half life 2, had those been avalible on mac, me would have a pb

I thought that those models had pretty good graphics card. I had forgotten the one thing the people on the Compaq forums didn't like. But don't feel so bad. My HP laptop has a ATI Radeon IGP 320M 32MB shared graphics card so it can't be any worse.

Ok, come on you rapscallions, I want to see more setups, both lavish and stripped-down.

I've been typing since I was in 6th grade, so it's like riding a bike now. Heck my mom still doesn't know how to type right. I have a question, is the nVidia graphics card you have good? Cause a friend of mine wanted to upgrade his nVidia FX 5200 128MB graphics card to something similar to yours so he can play Doom 3 at a higher frame rate.

hopefully you understand why an FX 5200 OWNS my video card, wait are you talking about a desktop card or laptop, if laptop, then he is owning leave it, if desktop, goto this magical place called www.newegg.com i play counter strike source at 1280x800 all the settings turned all the way up and anti aliasing at 2x, still it doesn't look as good as a directx9 card, plus new gmaes won't even let you boot them unless you have a directx9, that includes DAMN BATTLEFIELD 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cinema Display makes the screen on the PowerBook look weak when they're side by side, the difference is such that I prefer to run it in closed-lid mode.

And yes, that's a Razr V3 (with a BMW roundel wallpaper by the way). It fits perfectly under the Cinema Display as you can see in the picture.

The black unit is a patch panel, which is where all the cables in the house lead to. Then you can patch from there to anything -- a switch, another port, etc. Adds a layer of abstraction and flexibility to the setup.

The white unit is the actual switch.

This thread is hilarious. seriously I love how everyone is trying to deny that they are or they are not spoiled!. who cares?

I have a 16 year old friend who drives around a brand new land rover (the yuge ones) and she doesn't really seem too happy, I can't really think of any ways it has made her life better, or more enjoyable. I drive a vintage bicycle and I can't express my happiness as I cruise though the park in the early morning on the way to school. But she's still my friend and it's tons of fun for her to drive me around, we stopped to get gas once and it cost $52 to fill the tank. Ha.

Those who are yelling "Spoiled kids!" are just buying in to the same illusion that a material thing will make your life "better." Not to mention that getting such a ridiculous car at her age will make cars less enjoyable as she grows older, as they continue to get harder to "top". where do you upgrade from landrover? ferrari? batmobile? spaceshuttle? Getting a ****** car in highschool makes life more enjoyable in the future.

As far as computers go, hotwire here has a business and ridiculous setup to go with it. If I was making the same kind of cash I would run to the apple store as soon as I could.

Instead I have been editing on a Powermac G4 867 quicksilver with 256MB ram for the past 3 years. I run Final Cut Pro 3 and it flies on this setup. You don't need much of a computer to edit, unless you are doing a lot of corny special effects. The most important thing you can have is harddrive space (which I have a lot of).

I'm 17 by the way, and I will be applying to NYU tisch school of the arts in the fall.

After all these years behind the G4, I will probably shout a cry of jubilation when I get a G5 because of the absurd speed increase... and it will be worth it.

In the "parents bought it all" cat, sure!
But there was one nice one, I think Snowy and someone else who had stellar setups that their parents didn't buy.

I was kind of thinking of starting a small computer "repair" shop at my house. Could you give me some tips?

Always over estimate on the cost of the re-pair, or upgrade, or building. That way you look good. Just dont over estimate to much :). And if something comes up that you didn't think about, try not to let it push your original estimate over the edge. This will show them that you are truthful.

Write up a waver for them to sign. All this has to compose of is "I will try to do my best while working on your computer, or other electronic device. I I'm not a certified technician in any field. I I'm not responsible to any thing that happens to your computer, or other electronic device after i return it to you. I give no warranty to any work i do. I will be more than happy to fix any other problem that occurs." --Just a ruff explanation, just make it sound professional, and try not to use much business BS that no one understands. Also, put something in about, "i will not re-turn your computer, or other electronic device until i receive payment." This will protect you from getting screwed over. And, it might be a good idea to collect tax. This could prove helpful. This is what my IT teacher told us he did, he had a very extensive report on every thing he did. One thing he did was he made up a small re-port of every thing he did with the computer.

Have a lawyer look it over. A friend of mine did this, and the guy charged him $20 to look it over, and told him what he should change, and what was good. Just go to a small law firm, doesn't need to be a big one. Then get it notarized by a bank. Like US bank, or Bank of America, or another well known one. Shouldn't cost to much.

Then have the customer look it over, and sign it before they give you the stuff they want fixed, or up-graded, or built.

Then put adds up every where you can. And if a local ISP has classifieds that you can use, use them. Tell friends, tell family.

just a few pointers. good luck.
