my prediction

I'm thinking announcement sometime in august, with the following hardware configs...

I doubt we'll get a screen resolution upgrade

Entry 15"
2.0 Merom T7200 4mb cache
128 mb radeon x1600
DL superdrive

Better 15"
2.16 Merom T7300 4mb cache
256 mb radeon x1600 (option?)
DL superdrive

17"
2.16/2.33 T7300/T7400
256 mb radeon x1600
DL superdrive

Macbooks might get a refresh with the 2 mb cache versions of Merom, which will run at 1.83/2.0.

I think you're inquiry is a bit premature. Try again in 5 months.

Someone's not up to date on their Core 2 Duo release dates. Merom (intel's replacement to Yonah) comes out August 22.

I don't expect much other than an updated processor, honestly.

5 months???
Not likely. Try two.
Leopard compatibility? No doubt my 450Mhz G4 cube will be fully compatible with Leopard. So yes. It will be compatible. OSX 10.5 is not Vista :D
I'm hoping they release Merom immediately. 2.33. All round. Well I suppose we can hope.
(Any chance of an x1800?)

I'm waiting till after wwdc and at least until september...even if they release the new mbp in august. Judging by the last batch of Yonah mbps, there will be a grace period that you should wait for so that apple can perform any necessary bug fixes or god forbid another episode of thermal paste misplacement.

I have my money on the next-gen MacBook Pro's coming out in September/October. Features:

*Merom
*GPS Sensor for Leopard
*Slightly lower price points: $1899, $2299, $2499
*Flush Keyboard
*Magnetic Latch
*Wide Trackpad
*User-Replacable Hard Drive
*1GB RAM standard on all models
*Other goodies we didn't know we needed (like MagSafe)

I agree with everything besides the lower price points. This batch will carry apple through the holiday season and prices will stay the same if not increase slightly. (as with the ibook to macbook transition).

HD resolution Or at least sharper
200GB Hard Drive
2.33 Merom
Mag Latch thingy
and Please please please 512 vcard...

I dream.

whatever the case we won't see them until august 22nd or later if memory serves, but I bet Apple will get production going on the Merom-equipped MBPs very quickly, considering the reports that Apple and Lenovo were getting first dibs on the new chips.

Only glossy screens? What about professionals and people who can't use glossy screens in their work?

The iPod deal is until Sept 16 so you can buy your computer up till then fastlane.

I don't think it wil be limited to only glossy screens simply because ofthe glare issue...if you use them outdoors at all you will be exceptionally disappointed!

we are likely to see the x1600 stay as nothing newer in that power envelope unless they switch to the 7600 but there's not much point and it's more power hungry.

as for the cpu apple will go for the fastest available, no point in anything slower as they all have the same 35w tdp.

yup...same here. More than 70-80% of the time, you are around some source of power for your notebook. As long as the battery life doesn't fall under 2.5 hours, I would like that to happen as well.

Who really uses High end graphics cards but isn't buy a power source. "hey guys heading to the park to do some video editing?" Little unlikely.. though I suppose it would be nice to have a good battery life for those days at starbucks when you are sitting outside...

lol...exactly, but at starbucks, the most you are going to be doing (most likely) is surfing the web or tying a word document. And if you run out of battery life...just go inside...and who really sits at starbucks for 2.5 hours?

A few thoughts.

I'd imagine Core 2 Duo will be announced at WWDC with Jobs telling us it is the fastest processor in a laptop to date (as we always used to hear about g3,g4 etc) and then be released sometime in septemeber/october. Glossy, screen will stay as an option but by no means should it take over, yeah nice for rich colours, but crap if you have your office blind open! I'd imagine a hard drive upgrade, fw800 and 8x superdrives across all models. Hopefull 802.11n will make an official appearance, airport extremer? I'd like to see a new case design, which has been rumoured, better graphics card and extended battery life, but I doubt these will make an appearance till next year. At most I could see a black version being released to keep people happy, but then again black metal finish, hmm i guess you get black titanium alloys. Return of the tiBook? Increased screen resolution would be nice, all though I'm not that bothered for what I would use mine for, I know alot of people miss that extra space. Finally a revision of the architecture, pmu and cooling system to allow an at least cooler running machine.
Theres lots that could happen and lots we may want to happen but I reckon for now I'd be happy to buy my much wanted 15" MBP if it had core 2 duo, 8x superdrive, resolved heat issues, fw800. Heres to hoping.
