I didn’t get the 12.9” iPad Pro mainly because I k ow it will be a bother to lug around and I don’t want to worry about that weight.

The 12.9” model is for those who wish to use the iPad as a MacBook more and less like a tablet.

11” is more for those who wish to use the iPad as a tablet and less like MacBook. However, 11” model with the magic keyboard works very nicely, too. Easy to use the setup at many places.

I don’t watch HDR content on my iPad because I watch them on my big screen Tv.

There is also the blooming issue which I don’t want to be overly concerned about.

Definitely the Pro 11 does have a great display. I own an iPad Pro 2018 12.9 and it’s display is great even by today’s standards. But apart from deeper blacks and a mind blowing HDR experience, the colors just seem to pop more on the 12.9. I can’t quite explain it in words but the normal LCD displays look a little washed out in comparison. I noticed this watching SDR content in Netflix and putting both side by side. The 2021 12.9 model looked more realistic and eye catching to me.

Why do you watch shows and films from Netflix from a 12.9” screen and not a big TV?

Many times I find myself, watching TV and using my iPad at the same time. That is why I never watch Netflix shows on my iPad.

HDR is not important for me. I have a Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos setup for my shows and movies.

went from a 2020 12.9" to the 2021 M1 11" now I'm on a 2021 12.9". the 11" was great but the screen real-estate became an issue when working on excel files at work. I haven't had any issues with the 12.9" yet. I haven't watched any HDR movies to test the screen. just love how fast and smooth it is.

Not everyone has a home cinema setup these days I guess.

Near sighted. Would need to use glasses when watching on the TV. Don’t need it for the iPad. :p

There’s also the family to consider. They don’t like to watch the stuff I watch.

That’s odd because a big screen TV costs cheaper than the iPad Pro (11” or 12.9”).

I personally think along the same lines as you but have encountered a bunch of both adults as well as younger folks who have a different set of priorities.

Agreed. I just bought myself a LG C1 OLED TV and it cost me close to $1500 minus any extended warranty. The iPhone promax cost over that amount with warranty.

I have now been using the 11” I ordered for some time. I’m in fact typing on it right now as it’s waaaaaay speedier than my ancient macbook pro. I’ve not found myself pining for the old 12.9” at all. This is the perfect setup - but it is made possible by the logitech case. Truly able to use it both as a laptop and a tablet now.

Wanted to put my 2 cents as I went kinda other way (10.5 -> 12.9).

Couple of months ago I commented that I have no reason to upgrade from my 10.5. I also considered ditching my iPad and go iPhone Pro Max + MacBook (Air or Pro). Yet here I am with my lovely 12.9.

So why did this happen? 10.5’s battery started to degrade a lot over last months. Also I found a nice promo in my country that I could bring in my old iPad for a nice discount on a new one.

And thinking about my idea of ditching the iPad for minimalism sake… I just realised that iPad is the device I use 80-90% of the time. Would I be happy if I remove the thing that I use the most? I mean I could technically do all the stuff I do now on Pro Max and MacBook, but where’s the fun factor…

Now I had to decide between 11 vs 12.9…
I wanted something bigger to work with text, documents, PDFs, multitask, try to use it as a laptop as I only use 1-2 programs that require desktop. I have 2018 Mac mini for that and it’s a least used device that not only can easily handle my needs but it would be completely wasteful to now upgrade functional 3rd-in-my-use device to something new.

And now having new iPad I’m very impressed with 12.9 screen. It’s so welcoming, beautiful and immersive. Sounds silly but yeah, feels like magic. Yes it’s definitely a bulk to handle and get used to. Tho I find my use of it even more robust with Magic Keyboard Compared to good old 10.5.

I was more worried for my hands which seem fine. I do have one problem though and it’s not 12.9’s cumbersome handling at times. My eyes are quickly getting sore. Never happened to me on other devices. This makes me very worried, 10.5 never gave me such problems. I do use true-tone, nightshift and automatic brightness. But still, same problem occurs and it’s 4th day of use.

So… size-wise for my use cases it’s great. In terms of handling I think a couple more days and I’ll be fine. Not sure about the eyes tho.
