So are u a fan of the 12.9?
Yes love it, it’s all i use with my 12 pro max now, sold my late 2015 27” iMac and my 2018 11” 64gb Pro.
My wife has the newer 2018 11” that we had still has AC +. It seems like a mini next to the 12.9.
I wouldn’t of bothered going to another 11” the screen is the same and not much faster.
Was like going from the 12 to the 12 pro max, shouldn’t of listened to all the too heavy too big brigade, best iPhone ever and i have had them all, same with iPads 👍

M1 operates cooler.
Perhaps it does so, however, under load 12.9 are experiencing issues, hence my comment, because if bigger one heats up to such extent, perhaps its not only because of poor engineering/placement of innards, so it might happen to 11 as well imho. So far nobody has complained tho. I hope it stays that way.

I just returned my 2018 11 refurbished as I thought there may be something wrong with the speakers and Apple does not have tests for the speakers, they said in store they were complicated. I bought another one online that should arrive in a few days.

Because I was there for the genius bar, they let me play with the new devices. They were way more relaxed about it than a month or so ago.

I was able to test the Apple pencil. It feels delightfully smooth. Still the $25 Ankace I bought basically had the same handwriting to text recognition in Notes. I will use it more for that case than drawing so that seems fine.

I looked also at the magic keyboard. That felt great and I loved the way the display was angled on the iPad. I enjoyed the trackpad as well. Still, I'm ready right now to make do with the $20 cover I bought that holds the magic keyboard. Apple gave me that magic keyboard when I was struggling with the 2016 MacBook Pro and I like the fact that I am using the accessories I have around the house including an old Logitech ultrathin mouse. MSFT not letting us use Office365 free on this device also limits my keyboard usage.

Bottom line: Apple is successfully getting my money for both an iPad and probably an upgraded Macbook in the fall. Even though I am limiting the damage by finding alternatives to their accessories, buying an older iPad with base configuration and trying to hold onto my devices for at least 5 years.

This is the case in case anyone is interested: https://www.studioneat.com/products/canopy

Have had my 12.9 inch 5th generation iPad for almost a week now (writing this on said ipad). Can confirm OP is lying about the screen. This screen has none of these issues That OP has claimed it does.

"....These problems just simply don’t exist. The blooming specifically has been disproven several times....."
Right...there goes your credibility. Mini-Led does bloom and on the IPP 12.9" it is no exception. Whether it bothers you or because of your lighting situation you don't see it is one thing, but to say is has been "disproven" like it doesn't exist is pure denial.

I did this...... and then exchanged back to the 12.9". Both are amazing devices but I'm happy with my (second) switch.
The beauty of choice. :D
I think Apple have the perfect selection between 11” and 12.9” and people must just figure out that best works for them and that can take some trial and error, glad you found your perfect size for you.

I had the 12 for about a week but found it wasn’t portable or comfortable enough off a desk.
Moved to the 11 and it’s great. I do wish they would come out with a 12 … something in between 11 and 13.

I’m not another hurt Apple fan boy, I deal in facts. The OP claimed the display is riddled with all sorts of defects and after a week of using 8+ hours a day every day none of those defects showed up. The OP is lying, for what reason? I have no idea but I can confirm he’s lying. Weird observation though you are asking me for proof yet you are blindly believing OP without them providing anything proof at all, to quote you seems “a bit off in my opinion”. I have done what is necessary to try and produce any of what OP said to no avail. These problems just simply don’t exist. The blooming specifically has been disproven several times to the point literally no one is talking about it anymore, and OP is the only to post about many of the other problems he claims, meaning he is lying to try and gain internet clout, I guess.

You are lying my iPad has massive bloom and shadows

I’ve never had a yellow-tinted display on my iPhone but I guess the people who did are lying. I never had a battery issue with any Apple product, the people who do must be lying. I’ve never had a problem with any of my butterfly keyboards, so surely those who say they did are lying?

Your logic is severely flawed. The ”I don’t have this issue and neither do the 3 tech reviewers I listen to so it’s fake” is flawed logic, plain and simple.

I had a 12,9" iPad Pro and I sold it. I got the M1 11" and couldn't be happier. I don't use my iPad for work or any other kind of serious computing. For such tasks I use my two Macs, so I wanted a great tablet that can be used for media consumption and light productivity. I found the 12,9" to be heavy to use for extended periods of time. If you are using your 12,9" as a laptop replacement then it makes sense. If you just want a great tablet the 11" is for me the better choice.

I had a 12.9 M1 with magic keyboard for a few days to use as my only computer but I realized shortly I still needed a computer. I retuned it for a MacBook Air with twice the memory and 4x storage space for similar money. To compliment MacBook Air I purchased the 11” Pro and I couldn’t be happier.

Ugh I'm jelly. I thought I'd really want a bigger iPad since I spent a lot of my time using it but after getting the 12.9 I realize what made the iPad so great was the balance between usefulness and form factor. Once you get laptop sized, you might as well just use a laptop unless you need the bigger canvas for drawing. Hauling around my old 10.5" was just so nice and convenient. I want to switch but I don't want to take the hit and I also missed out on the back to school promotion now.

I did the opposite And opted for the 12.9. Different strokes for different folks but after seeing the beauty of this screen I couldn‘t go back to a smaller one. The 12.9 has the best screen I have ever seen and the smaller 11 inch just doesn’t capture it the same way. That’s my take.

I have gone between the 11” and 12.9” for the past year and have settled on the 11”, in my oppinion the form factor of the 11” is a lot better as a tablet, and personally I feel the 12.9” screen is awesome (except for blooming and border shadow) if your going to have it in the Magic Keyboard the vast majority of the time, but then you really have to consider if the 12.9” is worth $1448 minimum when coupled with the MK, when you can pick up a MacBook Air for only $999 or a MBP for only $1299.

Now in the unlikely scenario of the iPP OS becoming more pro focused or having MacOS it would be a different story but with the way iPadOS is destined to be for the foreseeable future the 11” is the way to go… all my personal opinion of course

Obviously the MB AIR is both cheaper and more oriented at creating stuff on then a 12.9 IPP and MK. Sometimes I cant’t even use the ”desktop class browser” Safari on my 11” ipad pro because most buiesness oriented sites dont work with it where a Macbook one works perfectly though since it runs the true Safari on Mac OS.

I saw the MiniLED display on the 12.9 and it wipes the floor with the 11 display. It’s a night and day difference so much so I am putting up with the larger screen

I cannot say that the MiniLED display is so great. Yes, it has much deeper blacks but also severe issues with motion when playing videos created with the iPhone in HDR. The iPad 11" has a classic display, but it works great and is certainly very good. But each to their own I guess.

Definitely the Pro 11 does have a great display. I own an iPad Pro 2018 12.9 and it’s display is great even by today’s standards. But apart from deeper blacks and a mind blowing HDR experience, the colors just seem to pop more on the 12.9. I can’t quite explain it in words but the normal LCD displays look a little washed out in comparison. I noticed this watching SDR content in Netflix and putting both side by side. The 2021 12.9 model looked more realistic and eye catching to me.

Uness you are watching HDR content, you shouldn't see any difference at all in normal use.
