Right. If Apple found that iPhones were blowing up in large quantities, it would do the same thing Samsung is doing. There's no use in saying "Apple would say 'you're holding it wrong"' because using a couple of bars is not the same as a phone burning someone.
Of course

They would do what any respectable company would do. I bet these phones that are being set on fire have been charged by 3rd party chargers. However saying this on fast charging my edge uses to get very warm so i guess it's possible

Folks: this is a pretty important, and downright fascinating story. I can't remember something like this happening in this space. SO...how's about we knock off the dopey Apple v Sammy crap and focus on this? *That* conversation takes place every friggin day. This story is unique.

Just throwing that out there! :)

I'm not fully caught up on all this, but no matter who is to blame, Samsung is still responsible. Kudos to them for reacting quickly and playing it safe, but a recall is never good for any company, even if the risk is only to 0.1% of users. They'll have to sort this mess out ASAP especially with the looming iPhone announcement coming in a couple of weeks (I could see Phil or someone saying, "And our quick charge capabilities won't explode on you!").

Sucks to be Samsung PR right now.

Good luck to the Note 7 early adopters here. Hopefully they're on top of it and the recall/replacement process will be smooth. I think Samsung should also throw in some goodies like extended warranties and/or additional accessories to make up for this.

Free Gear S3? :)

Yeah Apple will for sure mention this and say something about their last year model being faster

Possible silly question - but is this going to affect UK users too? I'm guessing it's all early adopters of the device but I'm not sure as all the reports so far are talking about Verizon / american handsets I think?

Thanks in advance! :)

Heck no, if I was Apple I would as well. They have many lapdogs in the tech world that will love that and make big headlines

Hopefully such talk is beneath them. I always cringe at belittling one'S competitors in keynotes. It always smacks of cheap desperation.

Giving credence to competitors within one's own keynote is stupid. Why mention them at all? I say, give them no free screen time.

Samsung is doing it right. Unfortunately, I have one and it works great. However, if it needs to go back, so be it.

I was just thinking about this. How does this even work? Most people don't have more than one device (i.e. no spare). If I had to return my 6S+, I would be hosed.

Good question. Fortunately, for me, I have another phone. However, for others, it could be a problem. We'll see...

What's everyone's plan for those who are stil in the return period? I just switched over from iPHone and am pretty happy with the Note but have noticed the battery get extremely hot when charging and when playing some games. Not really concerned but you never know. Wondering if it's just wise to return it and wait and see what happens. Unfortunatley I would lose my AT&T "bogo" but that's probably better than losing a finger or ear.

Unless your warranty ends in a couple of days (not keeping track of when this device was released) I would hold put until Samsung provides more information.

Dang. Samsung is copying Apple again but at least they're acknowledging it instead of sweeping it under the rug, blaming it on the customer and charging for defective replacements.

First of all, I object to having that disgusting picture shoved in my face. Grow up.

Second, do you have money invested with Samsung? What does one have to do with another? You guys fighting viciously over tech as though it's family need to spend more time with your own cause there's a horrible imbalance in your lives.

Had to hit show ignored content to see what you were refering too.

Thread has nothing to do with Apple but once again this particular poster finds an excuse to twist it to their agenda and post anti-apple diatribe posts. Just report the post and then add user to ignore list.

Done and done. Thanks for the advice.

I hope this thread doesn't get bogged down in that. It could also serve as a useful resource should Sammy announce a recall for all the folks on this forum who have purchased. I'm really curious as to how this plays out. If there is indeed a global recall...holy crap. What does that even look like? What do people who have traded in their phones for the Note do, for instance?

Yeah I don't think weve seen a global recall for a smartphone on such a scale ever before have we ?

I guess the fact they havent officially launched in Europe till tomorrow the 2nd September gives them the leeway to suspend sales whilst they investigate, however many pre-order customers will have recieved their devices.

It's certainly not good PR, and marring what should have been an easy launch after the sucessful launches of the S7 & S7e earlier in the year.

Biggest issue will be trying to 'regain' the momentum afterwards.

I'd think the easiest way to manage it and offer goodwill to existing customers is just to swap out their existing units for new ones. Having to recall hundreds of thousands or even millions of handsets, repair/replace components, then return to customers would be hugely problematic and time consuming, plus irritate the hell out of customers who for the most part, don't likely have backup phones.

I hope this is what they do. I don't want to have to send in and don't want anything for free for my troubles. Just give me a trouble free phone using a customer friendly exchange process
