I also put my eyes on the iPhone 14 Lineup and hope for a wonder after the iPhone 13 and Pro Max not worked for me :( I also consider to buy the SE 3. The battery life will be for normal days enough for me but i don`t know if i can arrange with the small 4,7 inch Display.

I did also order the new iPhone SE and will compare for myself. My eyes are sensitive to any display differences, so I will be able to note whether there are any contrast or color improvements from the previous generations and how it compares to iPhone 13 Mini. The high 2,000:1 contrast ratio could even possibly take a step back such as the jump from iPhone XR to iPhone 11.

I think since I’m so perceptible to display differences, that’s my first point of comparison every generation and I notice color temperature or contrast differences even without putting the phones side-by-side, it’s not super surprising that my brain would pick up on the PWM and not like a constant flickering. It also may be good that my second iPhone 13 Mini doesn’t quite have the same phenomenal display as my first as that will make it slightly easier to let go of it.

I don’t enjoy these needless returns after a point and would love to just keep iPhone 13 Mini. While the headaches don’t bother me per se I can’t imagine it would be ideal for my health to continue using this phone and dealing with persistent headaches for 1-2 years. At the same time I might absolutely hate the new iPhone SE, but I don’t think it will be that dramatic.

This is purely hypothetical since I doubt I could move away from iOS and the blue bubbles, but are there any easily-available Android phones with an OLED display that would have a higher rate or a truly flicker-free mode?

Here’s hoping there will be a successor to the iPhone 11 with similar size LCD screen and 5g. I love my 11 but the intel modem is really awful. Top download speeds 20mbps in a big city. Friend’s new iPhone 13 on same network is 20x faster. Even if they’d just put the dang Qualcomm in the 11 it’d be fine. For now, all iPhones with OLED give me a headache and burning eyes, with a spot of nausea. Shame.

The new SE is fine. I just moved from an iPhone 11. Better modem and love the small size.

I did look at the Nokia XR20 5G as it has a large LCD display and great battery. It is considered a rugged model. And I refuse to buy any Chinese brand phones.

I purchased iPhone SE (3rd generation) yesterday and have been using it for about a day now. I really like it. It's a great option, especially for people who care about their health.

Having used OLED screens and LCD PWM screens I thought I would have no problem with the 13 mini, but after buying it I get eye fatigue and bad sensations at one moment or other every day. After a week I don't know if keep trying or choose other option.
Have some of you accommodated to the PWM and have no more sYmptoms?

I have searched information and recorded a video about the PWM in some screens and how to get its characteristics without sensor or instruments, only a phone.
The phone, apart from varying the leds time-on/time-off, can decrease the current to the screen (as at first it decreases the global brightness lowering current without changing the time-on/time-off). So I think it could use only DC dimming with an option as the Xiaomi I have also tested.

iPhone 13 is more friendly to use compared to 13 mini but unfortunately i still get light headaches in front and back upper part of my head. It’s like having constant light pressure.

How is the camera compared between iPhone 11 and se3 ?

3rd day today with iPhone 13. And finally nausea kicked in. I was waiting for it. LMAO. Back to my 11. I really hope apple to build a se version of 11 and settle down until this OLED craziness goes away…..

I’m not going to cross-post my new iPhone SE impressions to three separate threads, although I will abbreviate it to the design feeling surprisingly fresh and new thanks to high-quality finishes yet the display and camera feeling perhaps even more antiquated and underwhelming than expected. The 326ppi resolution on iPhone 11 and iPhone SE looks noticeably pixelated after growing accustomed to iPhone 13 Mini.

This is getting painful at this point as there are virtually no PWM-free alternatives I would be satisfied with. I can give iPhone SE more of a chance and probably like it more over time, but it does feel outdated and I’m doubly disappointed that there’s still no Accessibility option so that we can just use a modern iPhone with minor compromises. I can test an Android alternative to see what happens, but that’s the least of my concerns and I’d strongly prefer to stick to iOS without settling for a phone that feels like a toy comparatively.

All we really need is apple to bump
Ip11 with a15 and camera system (chip/optics) from ip13… but, that aint gonna happen?

Personally having been a 7 Plus user for so long, and the fact it's 2022, I need at least 1080p as well. The lower res on the 11 and SE 2022 is not good enough.

Definitely.
Smaller displays should have higher ppi anyway because everything is smaller (and harder to read).
The 1080p 401 ppi LCD screens that were used in the Plus phones should have gone in the smaller phones.
Those pixels were not 1:1, which was weird. They were downsampled at 1.15:1.

1242×2208 to 1080×1920

Not ideal.

While I can tell the pop/sharpness of OLED displays is better, the regular retina displays work just fine for me in terms of sharpness. I would have a hard time faulting Apple for the PPI on the SE/11.

Sure, it's down to the individual. But like SD tv doesn't look as good as HD, and once you see 4K....

Using a 5K iMac has spoiled me and lesser computer screens don't look as good, like my 2K Ultrawide monitor which looks blurred now.

Using a 401ppi screen on the 7plus means text etc, looks sharp. With the 828p, 326ppi display on the 11 I can see the pixels, especially on text. The taller and narrower display is less appealing for reading on as well but I know many are happy enough. It's just for me, the XR and 11 feels like a downgrade in screen quality with regards to sharpness. I could butt heads with others all day about this, like those that don't see the jelly scroll on the ipad Mini 6, but there's no point as it's personal choice. I'd be much happier if PWM didn't affect me or I wasn't able to see the difference in PPI ?‍♂️

What about if they brought back the plus? :D

I am fortunate in that I'm one of those that, even though I can tell there's a difference in sharpness, it doesn't impact my experience at all. I would probably be OK even with lower res.

I am fortunate in that I don’t notice the difference in screen quality. But I have zero doubt that you can. And many, many others as well. I will say I HATED the 11 in conjunction with being pissed I couldn’t use the Pro Max. I kept the 8 plus another year and bought the 11, again, a year later and for some reason loved it.

I still prefer Touch ID. But I take so many pics and vids. My wife’s 8 just can’t match night mode photos. And shockingly love this size. I’m 6’7 and it’s perfect for me. However, the new 6.7” versions now feel huge and heavy (to me). But, the new 6.1” feels to small. I prefer the overall size of my 6.1” 11.

As if ANY of that matters. If I can’t use OLED none of it matters. To go from 10 years of getting the annual upgrade on launch day to now holding onto a phone 3-4 years is dumb.

On the financial forums they would say that’s smart! Imagine all the money you’d have made if instead of buying the phone each year you bought Apple stock for 3 out of 4 years with that money. :D
