I tried an iPhone 14, 2 weeks ago with no success. Aren’t they similar ?? You found it better than 16 plus ?
16 Plus was a no-go within just 10 minutes while setting it up. I didn't check the screen manufacturer at the time as I had the 16 Pro Max that was working out, until it didn't.

The longest session I've had on a family members 16e, with an LG display, was 1.5hrs and it was OK with double invert. Not as comfortable as my 11 but no eye muscle strain or headache. Brightness needs to be higher (40-50%) to have white, whites - to get rid of the dirty yellow I see on OLED phones. This meant when I switched back to my 11 at around 30% brightness it was more relaxed, and of course colours look better as I'm not using double invert.

I want to get a longer session before I commit. I'd prefer a standard 16 but it looks like most people are getting the Samsung display.

How come? Does it use TD?
I’ve been using the G75 for about 6 weeks now and have no complaints about the quality of the screen, I’m able to use it for extended periods of time with no issues. For reference I have been unable to use any OLED phone as they cause issues, similarly I was unable to use my iPhone 8 after updating it to iOS 16 as even a minute or two of use made me feel nauseous.

I bought the 16e a second time. I am having more success on the 16e with the double invert settings, auto brightness off, brightness at 60%

I went to a store and tried all the android phones. TCL, Motorola, Xiaomi, Samsung, one plus, oppo etc. By far Oneplus has the most pleasing in terms of aesthetics OS…. very iOS like. Second best is Xiaomi…. I don’t like pure android. Also to mention that like one plus 12, 13 also has the most pleasing OLED screen even against apples offerings….. I don’t know how they do it but i love cold colors (it doesn’t have the yellow piss like most oleds) and also i don’t know for what reason but it’s very sharp with best clarity. Who knows…. maybe i ll give it a try in the future.

if there is a return policy it’s worth to try a OP13

I really hope someone will test the POCO F7 Ultra, it has a lot of display certifications, including one that says Flicker Free (i suppose it is because it has DC Dimming in cycle mode?) When I tried the Moto Edge 50 Ultra with the DC Dimming mode it took some time to adjust but it was usable, so this could be another one.

I guess we are close to see Apple to implement some "flicker free" display tech, but they are probably gonna call it with some ridiculous name (aka brand it) like their other "innovative" features and they will not brag much about the details.

@DJTaurus how's it going with the Moto G75? Here in Italy it costs about 200 euros and it's very tempting... i don't mind Android at this point, my Xs with the swapped LCD is starting to become very slow and i should also replace the battery again so...

It felt ok but I didn’t keep it because I didn’t like pure android at all.

I’m very curious about your result.

It's a mixed bag result. Overall, I can use the phone without many issues. It's definitely much nicer than the Samsungs, Pixels, and the iPhones. It doesn't trigger headaches or migraines, doesn't cause eye pain, head pressure, or other symptoms that may be usual. No significant eye strain either.

Yet, something doesn't feel right. I think it may be related to the OLED screen factor itself (i.e. the colour differences, yellow ish tones, etc.), although this screen doesn't have the yellow look of the iPhones.

Perhaps it's also just a case of getting used to the look and feel of OLED screens. I think the flicker % is still somewhat of a factor, though, in how I perceive the level of comfort/the screen feeling right.

I think OLED screens are just generally overly bright. It could also be related to me using mostly light mode, which does bring out the whites a lot. I don't like dark mode; I find the white text on black/grey background annoying to my eyes.

The phone uses a combination of DC like dimming until 47%, and PWM from 46% (2160Hz according to the website).

Here are some pictures of the flicker % across the brightness range. Overall, the % is similar to the iPhone 16/16 Plus/16e at 100%, but is lower at most below brightness settings. I think that's possibly why I find it generally more comfortable. During normal at home use, the phone seems to hover between 50% and 65% brightness, which brings the flicker % into the 6 - 9% range.
The other thing I noticed, is that I feel that I prefer the up to 5% flicker % area, and possibly prefer high frequency PWM over DC like dimming.

Today I went to the local store to have a look at the Oppo Reno13. I had noticed previously, with the Reno12, that it's Radex measurements were extremely low for an OLED (in the range of 2.5% at 100% brightness, and only rising to ~5.5% around 50% brightness). I didn't buy that phone, but now that the new model has been released, I wanted to check it out in person.

I played around with it a bit, and it felt fine. The Radex measurements were again very very good. 100% at ~2.5%. ~5.5% at around 50%. And it kept staying under 5% for a bit below 50%, until it started going up with really low brightness and a fairly dim screen.

I went in considering getting it, but then a strange thing happened. As I was playing around with it, I kept measuring and remeasuring. At some point, for no apparent reason, the measurements were all ~1% higher than before 🤷‍♂️
Since it's priced at just under the 16e, and the store doesn't allow returns, and I'm getting a bit tired of trying higher priced phones, that measurement discrepancy made me decide to not give it a go for now.

Nonetheless, the measurements, even with the ~1% higher values, are still some of the best.

@DJTaurus you mentioned you don't like stock Android; Oppo's ColorOS might be something you'd like. It's more closely aligned to iOS in look and feel (even including the swipe from top right for Control Centre).

The new Motorola Edge 60 series is meant to release shortly; perhaps that's another option to consider. Some of those have % values very close to the Reno13.
