Well if turning it off would be sufficient I would do that and just use my passcode. But apparently we have to tape over it. WTH?
However, I’m not completely sure yet that I have a problem with it. I’ve had the phone for only a couple of days. And I’ve only just turned off Attention awareness yesterday. It took almost a full week for the issues with pwm on my Max to become unmistakable.
At least I’m not racing against a return deadline this time. I’m not returning this phone. I’ll just block the Face ID pieces with tape if I determine that’s the problem. If it’s the display I will fall back to using my 8 Plus for most things and use the Xr more as a phone and camera instead of all around media device.
I love the phone itself. I love the size. I love the features. I got nice call quality on it so far.
I do like my new display protector a bit better for clarity. However it doesn’t cover enough of the display so I’m going to try another brand of full screen protector.

I would be surprised if Face ID can cause a headache. Unless we are talking one of those nasty eye socket pains which is exactly what iris scanning from a Samsung did to me.
PWM is a real problem and definitely a nasty surprise migraine inducer. I have a Google Pixel 2 with OLED. I love that little phone but I can’t look at that display for very long. The pwm on that phone knocks me on my butt after awhile. It hurt my forum friend Aneres eyes, too, and that was part of the reason he gave his Pixel 2 up. He also had other issues with it but that was one of them.
So it’s tricky figuring out if it’s one of them or both of them that’s making some of us sick or sore and fatigued.
