The WebTablet did work. I was a lead for getting it marketed, but it fell through when Intel laid off the entire home market divisions (non-core businesses).

The first version we got required those proprietary wireless access points, but we got ahold of one that used 802.11; that's when the sh*t hit the fan. I remember it sitting in a box for the longest time, when someone mentioned sending it back (they never actually asked anyone), and so they did. Of course by then, that contact probably disappeared :(. This can explain how prototypes get in people's hands and easily forgotten. It's not that cloak and dagger, folks.

Anyway, it's fun to see prototypes. I don't think Apple gives too much of a crap anymore now that it's been developed, but maybe Apple's testing methods can be revealed this way. That would be a case for returning this.

Interesting! I worked for Intel Online Services in 2000-2001, which suffered the same fate as the Home Market divisions. It's hard to find anyone in the greater Portland area who didn't work for Intel at some point in their life. (I exaggerate, but not by much.) I came pretty close to getting the WebTablets to work, but they'd never get beyond a certain point in the setup routine. I did some Googling at the time, and what I found said they weren't fully functional. I still have them packed away somewhere. It would be cool if I could fire them up, but my 2008 MPB is probably somewhat more useful. :)

Oh come on... you can't leave a cliff hanger like that... That's worse that books that lead into a sequel that won't be out for another 2 years. Finish your thought there brett.

Here's a picture of the ORIGINAL iPhone if anyone's interested. It's actually a working unit. I took a snapshot of it while at this persons house purchasing a dog about 1.5 years ago.

This person developed it and still has the prototype in his house. This is the one Cisco sued Apple over.

Anyone taking bets yet as to wether this is a nice elaborate hoax or not thought up by someone with to much time on their hands?

The good side of the grass.

Yeah, it is interesting, but truthfully I'd really just rather have one that works right.

Since the connections for the battery are different I'm not sure if I'll be able to get another one to put in it.

I might go to the apple store and see what they say, but I don't really know if I want to be grilled by them about how I came to get this machine.

I just hope he gets what he wanted. Imagine spending $700+ and realizing you can't even take it in for service. or buy a battery. and you wanted to buy it with all of it's stated problems because you couldn't afford a full priced one. It would be nice to see this turn out good for the little guy for a change.

I offered him a new 128SSD Air, but he needs to think about it, I would case it , and keep it.

Best thread ever !

So, 'there's been a bit of a change' but that's it? Starting to sound fishy to be honest.

Something along those lines, although the number came up as unkown and I didn't get too many details. He said that he'd call back within two or three hours.

I'll keep you posted.

This is ridiculous....

Ok he just sent me a PM gang,,,

"Just kinda waiting right now. Got a call from someone who said he was with Apple Corp security, from an "unkown" number.

Talked for a bit and he said he'd call back. My number isn't too hard to find so he could have gotten off of the internet and I'm not entirely sure it's legit, but we'll see."
