Great Find

I'd e-mail Jobs, obviously from an untraceable account. See what he has to say. Regardless of what he does say I'd keep it.

Chances are you have a one of a kind machine. If the internals and keyboard, camera etc dont match up to the production model i doubt there will be other ones exactly the same. My farther once told me a story about a college of his who bought an old farm. In the barn they found a battered Jag e-type. He had it restored and it was discovered that it was one of three prototypes made. Only one of each was made and one was selected to go into production. This one was not the chosen production model meaning there was only one of them ever made. This could be the case with yours..... why would apple make multiples of it?

These are civil claims so far since there is no theft claim pending. As such the owner can sell it before any such claim is made legally since he obtained it with no NDA or belief it was stolen.

Whoever gets it next shouldn't post and brag about it however. Not for 7 years. :)

Rocketman

I thought that if something was on your property for 30 days it was legally your? Or is that only if you are holding on to it for ppl (Leaarned that from my dad who rents a bunch of apartments)

I would keep it, in any case, it uses Apples serial number coding therefore i would say its legit.

To the OP --

Even if you take it into a store, they probably would have any way to make any repairs to it, or get you parts, as it is probably a real Prototype. As in, usually one of a kind parts. Like i said usually.

I agree.

If there is a serial number on the battery take that number to the apple store and see if you can get a battery. I know it's a protype, but you never know.

If nothing happens just say "must have wrote it down wrong" and leave.

Very cool find man. I wouldn't sell it.

The guy that I bought it from responded to my email and said that he didn't really know anything about the machine, and never took it apart, but the person that he bought it from said "it was a test unit"...I guess that could mean many things.

Yeah...test unit...that's what it was. Used for the drop kick test, the over-voltage test, and the "can-we-cram-all-this-sh*t-into-this-little-enclosure" test.

MacRumors will be served with papers asking them to release the IP information of the OP... It is all in the works right now... They will hunt down the OP.

That machine was not supposed to leave Apple premises. They are angry.

This affects us all more than you know...

In case you missed the small chip on the motherboard that reads : Cyberdyne...

You are holding the laptop that starts the machine army and end of the human race as we know it....

O ya, a guy by the name of John Connor will be knocking on your door tomorrow. Do us all a favor and give him the machine ok?

Sorry, I just watched Terminator 2 again....

Your in a weird spot having this, people can lie about who they are or who they know. Take pictures a lot of them and image the drive as that is worth the most I think. Maybe sell dvd's of the imaged drive or "pay for shipping and packaging" so your in the legal clear. Think smart don't do any dumb trades with people. If you do accept a sale do it over paypal or something to verified address's and let the money hit your bank before you sell. Don't take out of state. This is a long thread with a lot of newbies that are saying there someone or something. Just be careful you don't get screwed! I'd sell it if it was me!

I thought Apple kept their prototypes locked down tight. It is interesting, but I do wonder if it was stolen by the seller.

This wouldn't be the first Mac prototype that has shown up for sale. Have you all seen that Mac Pro prototype that had the same red motherboard?

This is incredibly cool, though if it were mine I'd be a bit worried whether it might have been stolen.

If I had it and it was legal to do so, I'd certainly sell it for all I could get.

I'd call an Apple Store, and ask the manager if he'll give you a new one for it. It's possible Apple do want it back.

Call from a phonebox if you're paranoid. I wouldn't be. It's not like you've found the One Ring or anything.
